DENYING THE CREATION ACCOUNT There have been people I have personally talked with who have joined the Jehovah Witnesses for the single reason that evolution was proven false. But do Jehovah Witnesses really not believe in evolution? I ask this because they certainly do not believe in the biblical account of a 6 day creation. Nor do they believe in a afterlife but teach when the body dies we cease to exist. They have more in union with evolution than the bible, they synthesize science with current evolutionary theory. They teach the same concept in evolution of no after life. That you are your body and when you die you cease to exist. There is no soul only a life-force (the breath) that animates us that also ceases after the body is dies. "Adam ceased to be a breather, or soul, and went back to the lifeless dust from which he had been taken. It was the reverse of the creation process. No part of him lived on. He went completely into non existence."(Good news to make you happy p.89 1976) To the J.W. the personality "the soul" dies with the body. "This personality is dependent upon the body and therefore ceases to exist when the body dies."(Awake p.7 Sept.22 1955) So what happened to Jesus is no different than what happens to anyone else "Jesus was dead, he was unconscious, out of existence. Death did not mean a transition to another life for Jesus ; rather non existence."(Awake p.27 July,22 1979) What of Genesis 1 and the 7 days of creation that the bible teaches . Judaism and the church upheld from the beginning these 7 days as literal days. From their publication " For all people" p.5 "Similarly, religious fundamentalists today distort the Bible when they insist that the earth was created in six 24 hour days. (Gen.1:3-31) Such a view agrees neither with science nor the bible. In the bible, as in everyday speech, the word "day" is a flexible term, expressing units of time of varying lengths. At Genesis 2:4 all six creative days are referred to as one all embracing day. The Hebrew word translated day" in the bible can simply mean a long time." So there is no biblical reason to insist that the days of creation were 24 hours each. By teaching otherwise, fundamentalists misrepresent the bible." "Throughout history, theologians have often distorted the bible."Really ! lets see whose really misrepresenting the bible! Certainly the term day can have a meaning of a period of time but it is perfectly clear that this is not so for the 6 days of creation. It is they who are COMBINING THE BIBLE WITH SCIENCE. Vines Dictionary-The word Day (Heb. yom), used both in the particular sense of a natural day and in the general sense of a set time or period of time such as in the day of the Lord Yom adonai which will last 7 years. The word "day" can be used of an indefinite period, e. g "the day" or "day that" means in general "that time" (see Gen. 2:4; Lev. 14:2); "day of trouble" Ps 20:1; "day of his wrath" Job 20:28; "day of Yahweh" Isa 2:12. Or it can be used in the singular sense. Whenever a day is mentioned with a numeral is next to it, it means that number EX.. Gen.1:5 evening, morning day 2, (a 24 hours) Gen.1:8,13,19,23,31.God was very specific not only in the sequence of days but also mentions evening and morning. So the Jewish reckoning of a day begins in the evening. (This is kept today as the Sabbath begins with 3 stars are visible. So the word Day also means a period of 24 hours, or the time from sunset to sunset. In Bible usage the day begins with sunset (Lev.23:32; Ex. 12:15-20; 2 Cor.11:25 where night is put before day). The time space between dawn and dark, or the whole day of 24 hours can be used in a figurative way. But a period of time but it is always defined by the context. If it says day one , day two and describes it as morning evening then how can we possibly interpret it as other than its plain meaning, without changing Gods intent to communicate what it actually is. Gen. 2:17 "of the tree of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die." Was this a long period of their eating from the tree? The day they ate they did die. In their Spirit which is what Jehovah Witnesses deny exists. This is why they became sinners separate from God because the physical act affected the spiritual nature in man. Adam was made on the 6th day, he died at 930 years. So each day cant be years. Since the 7th day followed the 6th he would have years longer than days, then exactly how old would Adam have been? In the hundreds of thousands of years according to J.W' interpretations. What of the plants that were made before the sun how did they live if this was longer than a 24 hour period. If they were long ages they would have died without light.Gen. 3:8 "And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden." Was this a long period of them hiding from God ? Gen. 7:11 In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the fountains of the great deep were broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened." This names a specific date of this occurring so it cant mean a long time. Gen. 17:26 "That very same day Abraham was circumcised, and his son Ishmael;" how long a period did it take for their circumcision? Gen. 22:4 "Then on the third day Abraham lifted his eyes and saw the place afar off." This is the same language used in the creation account except that is even more specific saying night day, day one, night day, day two etc.. Gen. 27:2 "Then he said, "Behold now, I am old. I do not know the day of my death." He did not know the exact day, surely no one takes longer than a day when they actually die, do they? Exod 13:3 "And Moses said to the people: "Remember this day in which you went out of Egypt, out of the house of bondage; for by strength of hand the LORD brought you out of this place." Josh 6:14 "And the second day they marched around the city once and returned to the camp. So they did in six days." Was it ages or days they marched? Mark 9:2 "Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John, and led them up on a high mountain apart by themselves; and He was transfigured before them." Was this a period of time or actually 6 days. John 12:1 "Then, six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was who had been dead, whom He had raised from the dead." Was this a long period of time or actually 6 days. Exod. 20:8-9 "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God." Did the Israelites labor for ages or days in the week? Exod. 20:11 "For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it." Was the 7th day Israel kept as the Sabbath a long period of time? Or was it a single day like the other 6. The whole worlds work week is a pattern carried over from Genesis. Exod. 24:16 "Now the glory of the LORD rested on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days. And on the seventh day He called to Moses out of the midst of the cloud." Was this periods of time and if not why not? This is the same wording for the Genesis creation. Exod. 31:17 "It is a sign between Me and the children of Israel forever; for in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed.'" My question to the Jehovah's Witnesses is IF ALL THESE DAYS WERE NOT PERIODS OF TIME, WHY IS GENESIS ? WHY DO THEY INSIST THE HISTORIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH IS ALWAYS WRONG? BECAUSE THEY ALWAYS CHOOSE THE VIEW THAT IS THE OPPOSITE.
