A LIE FOR A LIE

I’LL TRADE YOU MY OLD LIGHT FOR YOUR NEW LIGHT

The Watchtowers policy has always been the light is getting brighter based on Prov.4:18 While they may agree with us that Gods word never changes their interpretation of it has not been as consistent. The Watch Tower "invites careful and critical examination of its contents in the light of the Scriptures." (WT 8/15/1 950) So I accept their invitation and I hope you will follow as we carefully examine. Their founder Charles Russell once said, "A new view of truth can never contradict a former truth. New Light never extinguishes old light but adds to it," (1881 Feb. Zion's Watchtower p. 188).

" Spiritual light continued to shine throughout the first century. But Jehovah did not reveal every aspect of his purposes to the early Christians. The apostle Paul told first-century fellow believers: "At present we see in hazy outline by means of a metal mirror." (1 Corinthians 13:12) Such a mirror did not have the best reflective surface. At first, then, comprehension of spiritual light would be limited. After the death of the apostles, the light grew dim for a while, but in recent times Scriptural knowledge has become abundant. (Daniel 12:4)"

Notice what they are using to enforce their idea of new light. they neglected to print the rest of the passage but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known. "This is the apostle Paul speaking who had more revelation than any other. What he is saying about himself and us is that we will know these things when Christ comes back not by the Watchtower teaching them.

"In modern times the first real glimmer of light began to appear in the last quarter of the 19th century as a group of Christian men and women began an earnest study of the Scriptures. They developed a practical method for Bible study. Someone would raise a question; then the group would analyze all related Scripture texts. When one Bible verse seemed to contradict another, these sincere Christians endeavored to harmonize the two."

Is this true? As we have just seen, they take partial Scriptures out of their context to make their own teachings. And their people read the 'Watchtower only' so they can understand the bible. But they never read the bible on its own, they let there leaders dictate all this so called research to them by the magazine.

"(as Jehovah's Witnesses were then known) were determined to let the Holy Scriptures, not tradition or man-made dogma, be their guide. After they considered all available Scriptural evidence, they made a record of their conclusions. In that way their understanding of many basic Bible doctrines was cleared up."( THE WATCHTOWER - MARCH 15, 2000 p.12)

Was it cleared up? When? If so why did they change their minds on things several times.

Before we look at their history of changes because of new light, lets hear from their own publications what they think about those who follow God and conduct themselves in this manner.

"It is a serious matter to present God and Christ in one way, then find that our understanding of the major teachings and fundamental doctrines of the scriptures were in error, and then after that, to go back to the very doctrines that, by years of study, we have thoroughly determined to be in error. Christians cannot be vacillating--wishy -washy-- about such fundamental teachings. What confidence can one put in the sincerity or judgment of such persons."(WT p.298 may, 15, 1976)

If ever we had an example of someone getting their hand caught in the cookie jar, this is it.

Lets look at their record starting with  Sodom and Gemmorrah…

Sodomites getting resurrected: (maybe depending on the time you lived)

"The men of Sodom will be resurrected." (Watchtower 7/1879, p. 8).

The men of Sodom will not be resurrected." (WT, 6/1/1952, 338).

"The men of Sodom will be resurrected." (WT, 8/1/1965, p. 479).

"The men of Sodom will not be resurrected." (WT, 6/1/1988, p.,31).

The men of Sodom. will be resurrected." (You Can Live 'Forever on Paradise-On Earth early editions,p.179).

"Men of Sodom will not be resurrected." (You Can Live 'Forever on Paradise-On Earth- later editions, p. 179).

"The men of Sodom will be resurrected." (Insight On The Scriptures, Vol. p. 985).

"The men of Sodom will -not, be resurrected." (Revelation Its Grand Climax At Hand, p. 273).

Now I can understand someone changing their view to be more accurate to correct themselves, but this example is absurd. Is the light getting brighter or do we have an example of it being turned on and off. (it's flickering).

Maybe this occurs because of their view of truth "A truth presented by Satan himself is just as true as a truth stated by God.... Accept truth wherever you find it, no matter what it Contradicts." (WT 7/1879 pp. 8-9,)

Yet at the same time they can say this "New light never contradicts old light, but' adds to it." (WT 2/1881 P. 188)

The Bible speaks a lot about darkness and light. Lets look at Prov.4:18-24 again… "But the path of the just is like the shining sun, that shines ever brighter unto the perfect day. The way of the wicked is like darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble.  My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart;  For they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh. Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.  Put away from you a deceitful mouth, and put perverse lips far from you."  Notice it is the path of the righteous that becomes brighter not Gods words also that the wicked are in darkness and stumble. As one applies his words their life is directed and guidance becomes clear. Gods solution is his word, which brings truth. It is consistent, it does not change but mans opinions does (church of Laodicea).  It does not say listen to others but to him and by doing so it will bring health it will stop deceit.  Is this what is occurring with the Watchtower ?

What about important issues such as salvation surely they can see these clearly and not do the same to theses doctrines that they do to others? Well…

The New covenant and salvation

"…The new covenant is a thing of the future." (WT 6/1880 p.110)

"the New Covenant is now in force, having been sealed by the blood, the death of Christ."(WT 9/1887, p. 974) ...

"…The work of the Christ in the inauguration of the new covenant could not begin until the perfecting of his own body, which is the church… and all of his blood has not yet been shed." (WT 4/1/1909 p.4367)

'They recognize that they are not in the new covenant mediated by Jesus Christ… To keep in relationship with 'our Savior God, 'the 'great crowd 'needs to remain united with the remnant of spiritual Israelites.(WT 11/15/1979, p. 27)

Referring to those who partake in the new covenant of Christ the"mediator Jesus is the "mediator" only for anointed Christians which number 144,00. … "This great crowd" of "other sheep" that is forming today is not in the new covenant. However by their associating with the little flock of those yet in that covenant they come under benefits that flow from that new covenant.' (Watchtower, 4/1/79, p. 31)

…Jesus mediatorship operates solely toward those in the new covenant,"(Insight on the Scriptures p.362)

The other sheep referred to by Jesus in Jn.10 "…are persons who are not in the covenant…who…are being gathered within Jehovah’s provision for eternal life on the earth on the basis of their faith in the sacrificial value of Jesus blood. (Survival p.73,80)

"Members of the great crowd are not participants in the new covenant. However, they associate with the Israel of God and live with them in their "land." While not participants in the new covenant, they are beneficiaries of it.( WT-Feb. 1, 1998 p.24)

To not be in the New covenant means you have no mediator, because God himself said there is only one and that Christ 1 Tim.2:5 It is by his blood, if you do not have him then you are not forgiven of your sins.

What does it say in Prov. 19:5 A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who speaks lies will not escape. What kind of a witness is the watchtower?

Worship

What about the worship of God certainly this would be clear to have one make up their mind from the Bible, right?, wrong !"To worship Christ in any form cannot be wrong"(W.T. pg.83 3/1880)

"…And the disciples worshipped him."(W.T. pg.410 5/15/1892)

…"Yes we believe our Lord Jesus while on earth was really worshipped, and properly so." (W.T.pg.216 7/15/1898)

…"All creatures in heaven and on earth will worship Jesus as he worships the father."(W.T. pg.252 8/15/1941)

…"You must worship and bow down to Jehovah’ chief one, namely, Jesus Christ."(W.T. pg.313 10/15/1945)

"Christ to be worshipped."(make sure of all things pg.53,85)

"'Let all the angels of God worship him' [that must include Michael, the chief angel, hence Michael is not the Son of God."(WT 11/1879, p. 48 )

What about who Jesus was before he was changed to an angel?

"Michael in Revelation 12:7 is the pope of Rome. (Studies in the Scriptures vol.7 p.188)

Rom.10:14 refers to Jesus (WT 12/1/1903 p.3282)

Speaking of Jesus "He being the creator, existed before any other gods. And all these gods will be wiped out so that there will be none existing after him (Isa.43:10) As the Alpha and Omega (Rev.22:13)…"(Aid to Bible Understanding 1971 p.666)

[Say] saying even so, lord God almighty.- the Lord Jesus Rev.1:8; Jn.5:22; Mt.28:18.(the Finished Mystery pg. 240 1917)

They then changed it to;

"Michael the great prince is none other than Jesus Christ himself Dan.12:1" (WT 12/15/1984 p29)

Do not erroneously conclude that Christians are to worship Christ. That is not what the Bible taught." (W.T. pg.421 7/15/1959) .."It is unscriptural for worshippers of the living and true God to render worship to the son of God Jesus Christ." (W.T. 1/1/1964 pg.671 )

No distinct worship is to be rendered to Jesus Christ, now glorified in heaven. (WT 1/1/1954, p. 31)

"When he brings his firstborn into the inhabited earth, he says, and let all Gods angels worship him ."(Heb.1:6 NWT 1961 edition p.1293)

Later changed to "When he brings his firstborn into the inhabited earth, he says, and let all Gods angels do obeisance to him ." (Heb.1:6 NWT 1971 edition p.1293)

Voting

In no country do Jehovah's witnesses take part in politics. They are not of this world. (John 17:14) Therefore they do not take part in voting at elections. They do not compromise their neutral standing in matters of politics, however, if they go to the polls and make the ballot void in some manner, either by crossing it out or by putting down, for example, the words “For God's Kingdom.” Watchtower 1964 May 15 p.308

“these spiritual brothers… do not run for political office, or vote for political candidates.”  (Watchtower, Dec. 15, 1973, p 741)

“Do we today feel the same way as did these faithful servants of God in the past?  When national law or community pressure seems to make it imperative that we … vote for political leaders or support nationalistic schemes, will we compromise and get disqualified and sidetracked from the race for life?”  (Watchtower T, Aug. 15, 1975, p 496-7.)

“They do not seek or offer compromises… To serve in the army, to vote...” (Watchtower, Sept. 1, 1986, p 21).

“Informed that Jehovah's witnesses keep separate from all politics, not even voting, the man was indeed surprised. Eventually a Bible study was started with him and his wife. Now both of them are baptized witnesses of Jehovah.” (Watchtower 1973 October 15 p.627)

“The Witnesses are neutral as to warfare and strife between the nations, as well as being clean from all political involvement, not even voting, because they fulfill Jesus' description of them as being “no part of the world.” (John 17:14) (Watchtower 1977 November 15 p.686)

“Those who reject an accurate knowledge of the truth often choose the pathway of expediency…Now they can even vote for one of the political parties of the ‘wild beast.’  (Rev. 13:1,7)  Thus, as unsteady souls, some have been seduced and misled from the straight path of accurate knowledge by those who, while ‘promising them freedom, are themselves existing as slaves of corruption.’ – 2 Peter 2:15-19.”  (Watchtower, Dec. 1, 1989, p 13,14.)

Perhaps one of the most sensitive areas of our children's interaction with the schools involves patriotic observances. We realize that deep feelings may be involved, and we appreciate very much those teachers who handle the various situations with sensitivity and understanding. An explanation of why Jehovah's Witnesses do not participate in patriotic observances may be helpful” ( School Brochure (1983) pp.12-16 Flag Salute, Anthems and Voting).

The Oct. 15, 1970 Watch Tower has an 8-page article on the suffering that Jehovah’s Witnesses in Cameroon, Africa, endured because of their refusal to vote.

How do Jehovah Witnesses view voting after November 1, 1999?

There are clear principles set out in the Bible that enable servants of God to take a proper view of this matter. However, there appears to be no principle against the practice of voting itself. Watchtower 1999 November 1 pp.28-9 Questions From Readers)

there appears to be no principle against the practice of voting itself.”

“As to whether they will personally vote for someone running in an election, each one of Jehovah’s Witnesses makes a decision based on his Bible-trained conscience and an understanding of his responsibility to God and to the State.”

“If someone decides to go to the polling booth, that is his decisionWhat he does in the polling booth is between him and his Creator.”

As representatives of God's heavenly Kingdom, Jehovah's Witnesses feel a similar obligation not to interfere in the politics of the countries where they reside.

“If she obeys her husband and goes to the polling booth, that is her personal decisionNo one should criticize her. – Compare Romans 14:4.”

a Christian has to make his own decision”.

“each Christian has to make his own decision before Jehovah God – Romans 14:12”.

Jehovah's Witnesses do not meddle in politics. Nor do they interfere with what others do as to joining a political party, running for political office, or voting in elections. Jesus said that his disciples would be no part of the world, so Jehovah's Witnesses take no part in politics.” (Worship The Only True God (book, 2002) chapter 18 pp. 163-164 “They Are No Part of the World”)

What about life saving issues such as vaccinations

'Vaccination is a direct violation of the everlasting covenant that God made with Noah after the flood' (Golden Age, 2/4/1931, p. 293)

then changed to…Vaccinations appear to have caused a marked decrease in disease (Awake- 8/22/1965, p. 20).

Organ transplants are cannibalism, hence inappropriate for Christians (Watchtower, 1/1/5/1967, pp' 702-704) Jehovah's Witnesses consider, an organ transplants to be cannibalism, hence unacceptable (Awake, 6/19/1W, p. 21)

Then changed to: "Organ transplants are not necessarily cannibalistic." (WT 3/15/1980 p.31)

Blood

Today they refuse blood but this can all change just as their ruling on vaccinations…

Abstaining from blood (Acts 15:29) "should be observed by all spiritual Israelites as representing the divine will." (WT 4/15/1909, p. 4374)

they went so far as A pet should not be given a blood transfusion. (WT 2/15/1964, p. 127)

In a great emergency a physician gave a quart of his own blood; today the woman lives and smiles. ( CONSOLATION 12/25/1940, p.19)

"In view of the seriousness of taking blood into the human system by a transfusion, would violation of the Holy Scriptures in this regard subject the dedicated, baptized receiver of blood transfusion to being disfellowshiped from the Christian congregation?" "The inspired Holy Scriptures answer yes." (The Watchtower, January 15, 1961, p. 63)

"Similarly, God's command to 'abstain from blood' rules out ingesting it by the mouth as well as through injections into the veins. Furthermore, the Bible makes it clear that the divine law was not to be ignored even during an emergency that could threaten life. (1 Sam. 14:31-35) Many of God's approved servants have been willing to face dangers and even death rather than violate Scriptural principles and their integrity to Jehovah." (The Watchtower, June 15, 1978, p.24)

. . . "So their everlasting destiny is tied up in their faithfulness to Jehovah. This includes their being obedient to what he says about blood." (The Watchtower, June 15, 1978, p.24)

"They know that if they violate God's law on blood and the child dies in the process, they have endangered that child's opportunity for everlasting life in God's new world." (BLOOD, MED., p. 54)

"it may result in the immediate and very temporary prolongation of life, but that at the cost of eternal life for a dedicated Christian."( BLOOD, MED., p. 55)

"Witnesses believe that blood removed from the body should be disposed of, so they do not accept auto transfusion of predeposited blood. Techniques for intraoperative collection or hemodilution that involve blood storage are objectionable to them." (How Can Blood Save Your Life? 1990, p. 27)

"But Jehovah's Witnesses believe that to be transfused . . . [may] result in eternal damnation." (ibid. p. 31)

Gods word

What about the bible certainly they would not mess with God's holy word would they?

What they think about "Gods word"

The original writings of the Christian Greek Scriptures, commonly called "The New Testament," were inspired. No translation of these sacred writings into another language, except by the original writers, is inspired.... It could not accurately render the precise meaning of the inspired copy. ". .. In presenting this translation of the Christian Greek Scriptures (NWT) our confidence has been in the help of the great Author of the Book." (forward KINGDOM INTERLINEAR p. 7)

A person would go into darkness after two years of reading the Bible alone; would be in the light reading the Studies in the Scriptures alone. (WT 9/1 5/1910, p. 4685)

"That it [The Finished Mystery contains some mistakes is freely admitted. Even the Bible contains some. (4/1/1920, p. 103)

"If the six volumes of SCRIPTURE STUDIES are practically the Bible topically arranged, with Bible proof-texts given, we might not improperly name the volumes-the Bible in an arranged form. That is to say, they are not merely comments on the Bible, but they are practically the Bible itself. ."(WT 9/15/191 0, p. 4685)

"There has been no clear understanding of the Bible for centuries.’ (WT 9/15/1911, p. 4885)

"Rather we should seek for dependent Bible study, rather than for independent Bible study." (WT 9/15/1911, p. 4885)

The Bible is a sealed book except to the organization. (WT 7/1/1973, p. 402)

Can we accept that on J.W’s can understand scripture and it is through their organization. What of all the saints through history ? They never had a organization or publications, they only had the bible. This was not enough according to the watchtower. Prov. 6:19 "A false witness who speaks lies, and one who sows discord among brethren."

Imagine their saying to the apostle Paul or others in the 1st cent these statements!

The faithful and discreet slave

We are convinced that the Watch Tower is God's chosen vessel for dispensing "meat in due season." (WT 1/1890, p. 1171)

"The faithful and wise steward" would not be a company of individuals."(W.T. 4/15 1903 p.3306)

Then changed this to "the Watch Tower unhesitatingly proclaims brother C.T. Russell.jpg (2227 bytes)Russell as the faithful and wise servant." (W.T 3/1/1917 p.6049)

The Scriptures indicate that Russell was chosen of the Lord from his birth. The two most popular messengers were Paul and Pastor Russell. Russell is the "servant" of Matthew 24:45-47. (WT 11/1/1917, p. 6159)

"No one in present truth for a moment doubts that brother Russell filled the office of the 'Faithful and Wise Servant."' (WT 4/1/1920, p. 100)

Notice the comment in "present truth." This means it is not absolute truth but subject to change whenever they please. What does Eph. 4:14 that we should no longer be children tossed to and fro and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting" but they cannot stop being tossed unless they read the bible through without the Watchtower.

"The Society by overwhelming majority vote expressed its will in substance thus: Brother Russell filled the office of 'that Servant." (WT 4/1/1920, p.101)

Fulfilled prophecy-or physical facts-and the circumstantial evidence are conclusive proof that Russell filled the office of that faithful and wise servant. "(WT 3/1/1922, p. 74)

"Every indication of the Lord's providence has shown that God gave Brother Russell to the church to be as a mouthpiece for him; and those who claim to have learned the truth apart from Brother Russell and his writings have been manifested by the Lord as deceivers, ready to lead the flock of God in their way. Satan has attempted by many attacks upon this fact to break it down; to cause the Lord's people to believe: that Brother Russell was not the only channel by which the Lord would lead his people" (Watch Tower, 15 September 1922, p. 279). (see 1910 and 1951)

"The lord foretold an office that would be filled by man. The man the Lord chose to fill that office was his modest, humble, and faithful servant ,brother Russell (W.T.5/1/1922 p.74).

"Thousands of the readers of Pastor Russell's writings believe that he filled the office of 'that faithful and wise servant.' .

His modesty and humility precluded him from openly claiming this title, but he admitted as much in private conversation." (STUDIES, Vol. 1, 1924-27 editions, p. 7)

The bible teaches Prov. 14:15 "The simple believes every word, but the prudent considers well his steps."

We are told in Prov. 14:18 "The simple inherit folly, but the prudent are crowned with knowledge." Adherents to the WT because of instructions not to question, become the simple and inherit folly.

Then changed to

What is the channel? ... a faithful and wise servant' in the 'last days.' . . . The physical facts have come to pass in fulfillment of this prophecy, and they reveal the light-channel to be the Watchtower Society." (THEOCRATIC, pp. 249-50)

"That faithful and wise servant" does not apply to one individual and not to brother Russell. Russell never made that himself." (WT 2/15/1927 p.56)

Speaking on the Org."his sole visible channel, through whom alone spiritual instruction was to come. . . . recognize and accept this appointment of the 'faithful and discreet slave' and be submissive to it." (WT 10/1/1967, p. 590)

"We all need help to understand the Bible, and we cannot find the Scriptural guidance we need outside the faithful and discreet slave' organization." (WT 2/15/1981, p. 19)

"This erroneous thought that Russell himself was the `faithful and wise servant' was cleared up."  "this Servant is not one Person, but a group or "class" of individuals. (1975 YEARBOOK OF JEHOVAH WITNESSES  P. 88 ) [see also 1904, 1916, 1917, 1923, 1969]

As we have seen from their own history they wobble as they spin. They depend on peoples bad memories to survive these changes and so far its worked.

Can a Jehovah witness tell us when the new light started. Obviously its not a single date but a constant process, sometimes going back to the old light that was once new light to those at the time.

Now where does all the old light go after its discarded? It doesn't disappear off the face of the earth or go into non existence when it dies, like they teach ones soul does. Its safeguarded to be reused at a later date if it need be. After all, another generation comes along and has no Idea what they previous one was taught (take the example of the 1914 generation being the last). What they may accept as truth could have condemned those previously before them. Are they really finding truth that never changes?

The Bible teaches Prov.27:12 "A prudent man foresees evil and hides himself; the simple pass on and are punished."

Prov.14:25 "A true witness delivers souls, but a deceitful witness speaks lies."

After reading just some examples of their double mindedness that is pawned off as new light, what do you think?

Can an organization that works like this really represent Jehovah's 'sole channel of truth if they waver so much?
