"Remember" The Sabbath only? Does God just say to remember only the Sabbath Leo Schreven says, And it's amazing that the only one of the 10 commandments He said REMEMBER, the whole world has forgotten! And so every time you remember the Sabbath day you are honoring the true God. That's why, if this commandment had always been kept, there would be no atheist, agnostic, idolater, or skeptic. (prophecy seminar The Seventh day Sabbath true worship lesson 10 Leo Schreven) Really! This didnt happen when all of Israel had kept it, even as a nation under God. While it may be true to keep the Sabbath honors God, it is not the only day or way to do so. Nor is it THE way to do so. He created this day in honor of himself as being the creator of all things. And you can read all through the bible God wants us to remember it. (Christ exposes the antichrists greatest deception affecting you lesson #10 ) Most of them begin negatively, have you noticed that? It says thou shalt what? Yeah, thou shalt not do this, thou shalt not do that and so on. But this one is unique, it says remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. Why does God say remember?...And my friends of all these commandments, God says remember the Sabbath day, to keep it Holy Why remember Lord, because I think my people might forget. And you know what friends, the amazing thing tonight is this. Out of all the 10 commandments, the very one that God said remember, the only one that God specifically said remember, seems to be the one that the entire world has for gotten. (Christ exposes the antichrists greatest deception affecting you #10 ) ...God says listen, I want you to remember me as the creator, I want you to remember I my wonderful works and perhaps this is why even the commandments says, remember the Sabbath day and to keep it holy Perhaps not; as we will see this is not an interpretation but an insertion. It is what is called a pretext, not keeping it in the context it was written in. The real question that begs to be asked is, do we need a day to remember God as creator? Since we have his Holy Spirit living inside us, it should be a normality of our new life in Christ. God uses many words to explain a meaning, he does not have to use the exact word remember to have the same meaning conveyed. Take for example the word eternal has the same connotation as forever. The word memorial or the phrase do not forget, can mean the same as remember. The word memorial has the same meaning of which is said in Ex.12:14. (2146 zikrown- a memorial, a reminder, a remembrance) ( 2142 zakar-to remember, to recall, to call to mind a) (Qal) to remember, to recall b) (Niphal) to be brought to remembrance, to be remembered, to be thought of, to be brought to mind c) (Hiphil) 1) to cause to remember, to remind 2) to cause to be remembered, to keep in remembrance 3) to mention 4) to record 5) to make a memorial, to make remembrance. (Brown- driver- Briggs) Yes it is true God says to remember the Sabbath, but to whom does he command this to? Israel only. What does God say for Israel to REMEMBER? first- the covenant commanded Israel to remember this day, in which ye came out from Egypt... Exod. 13:3; to remember the Sabbath day. Exod. 20:8: to Remember that thou was a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the Lord thy God brought thee out thence through a mighty hand. Deut. 5:15 and often; and to remember his marvelous works. Ps. 105:5; 1 Chron. 16:15. But the children of Israel remembered not the Lord their God, who had delivered them out of the hands of all their enemies. Judg. 8:34; Ps. 78:42. Did the Sabbath help Israel to remember God? Obviously not. In Lesson 10 - The Seventh-day Sabbath, True Worship -Christ Reveals the Antichrist's Greatest Deception Affecting You! In Lesson 10 - The Seventh-day Sabbath, True Worship -Christ Reveals the Antichrist's Greatest Deception Affecting You! Schreven states, Why did God say remember? Because to forget the Sabbath is to forget the Creator also. If this is true than to forget any of these other things he tells us to remember means to forget God also, we should not limit this to only one day! Lets see if what God says is the same as Schreven and the 7th day Adventists say. Num.15:40: and that you may remember and do all My commandments, and be holy for your God. This includes all 613 not just 10, not only the Sabbath. Deut. 16:3 You shall eat no leavened bread with it; seven days you shall eat unleavened bread with it, that is, the bread of affliction (for you came out of the land of Egypt in haste), that you may remember the day in which you came out of the land of Egypt all the days of your life. Deut. 8:2 And you shall remember that the LORD your God led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you and test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not. Who is God telling to remember? Israel not the church! Exod. 13:3 and Moses said to the people: Remember this day in which you went out of Egypt, out of the house of bondage; for by strength of hand the LORD brought you out of this place. No leavened bread shall be eaten. Exod.3:15 This is My name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations. Exod.13:9: Remember his word. It shall be as a sign to you on your hand and as a memorial between your eyes. This is the focus of all the Scripture. Ex.12:14: He says to keep my feasts, so why major on one command of a day instead of focusing on Christ. The word memorial has the same meaning of which is said in Ex.12:14 to memorialize the feast of unleaven bread on the first day. Ex.17:14: Remember the defeat of amalek. Exod. 17:14: Then the LORD said to Moses, Write this for a memorial in the book and recount it in the hearing of Joshua. Lev.23:24: 7th month first day of the month rest day a memorial of blowing of trumpets of holy convocation. This was to be continued just as a Sabbath was.Num.15:40: and that you may remember and do all My commandments, and be holy for your God. Were they the 10 commandments only, or part of others they are being told to keep? There was 613 Commandments if one did not do them they suffered the penalty. Exod. 32:13: Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel. Deut. 15:15: You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the LORD your God redeemed you; Israel forgot how God redeemed them from the enemy. Deut. 9:7: Remember Do not forget how you provoked the LORD your God to wrath in the wilderness. Ps. 105:5: Remember His marvelous works which He has done, his wonders, and the judgments of His mouth.Ps. 78:42: They did not remember His power: the day when He redeemed them from the enemy.Ps. 106:7: Our fathers in Egypt did not understand Your wonders; they did not remember the multitude of Your mercies, but rebelled by the sea-- the Red Sea. We are told to remember His power, works, mercies, nowhere are we told to remember a day over other things God has done, he wants Israel us to remember them all. Look at what Malachi says. Mal .4:4-6: Remember the Law of Moses, My servant, which I commanded him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments. Do Sabbatarians observe this or do they choose not to? Remember 2 Kings 21:8 says If they will observe to do according to all that I have commanded them, and according to all the law that my servant Moses commanded them. But they paid no attention... Lets not forget the penalty for breaking these laws. Do Sabbatarians remember the Law of Moses? The word memorial (Used for the feast days) means to remember, to keep in mind or even write down. All these were to continue and were just as eternal as the Sabbath. If they are non -applicable then so is the Sabbath. The NEW TESTAMENT In the New Testament the focus is on Christ and His teachings. Paul writes in 1 Cor.11:25 of the communion, This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me. This has both a past and future reference, we look back at what he has done and we look forward to when he comes again. You proclaim the Lords death until he comes. Instead of giving day or re-ratifying the Sabbath he gives them something more intimate in referring to Jesus' person and work. Matt 26:13: Assuredly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her. Acts 20:35: And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive. What about the phrase do not forget? Deut. 8:11: Beware that you do not forget the LORD your God by not keeping His commandments, His judgments, and His statutes which I command you today, same things are mentioned in Deut.11:32 (omitting the warning to forget). Notice it is not just the law one remembers, but all of it, even what Moses taught. Deut. 11:32 And you shall be careful to observe all the statutes and judgments which I set before you today. The Lord warns in Deut. 8:14: When you heart is lifted up and you forget the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt...17-19 then you say in your heart, 'My power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth. And you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day. Then it shall be, if you by any means forget the LORD your God, and follow other gods, and serve them and worship them, I testify against you this day that you shall surely perish. We find from the writers what was important to remember, it certainly was not the Sabbath only... David said in Ps. 119:83: For I have become like a wineskin in smoke, yet I do not forget Your statutes. Ps. 119:141: I am small and despised, yet I do not forget Your precepts. these were all in the law of Moses. The command of do not forget conveys the same meaning as remember. So we see Statutes, precepts, the law of Moses, the commandments are not to be forgotten. Not just the Sabbath! Remembering they were slaves, the day they came out of Egypt, the way the Lord led them, their defeat, his Holy Covenant and the words of Jesus and much more. Nowhere does it say to remember the Sabbath only. Neither does it mean that if one does not observe the Sabbath they have forgotten God. They knew God before Moses and we certainly can know God without the Sabbath. We need to know what the Bible says on this whole subject or we will find ourselves to be wrong where the Bible is right.
