A Rainbow cross identifies a new Bible version We are not referring to a Bible with different color coded Scriptures. But a new Bible version claims to be authored by God and Jesus Christ. It is called the Queen James Bible as a derision of the KJV and begins with the topic of homosexuality in the Bible. Then it lists the changes from the King James and why. One might first think this is a joke but it is not. They write of it, “No Bible is perfect, including this one. We wanted to make a book filled with the word of God that nobody could use to incorrectly condemn God’s LGBT children, and we succeeded.” Here is what their promo says,
Homosexuality was first mentioned in the Bible in 1946, in the Revised
Standard Version. There is no mention of or reference to homosexuality in any
Bible prior to this - only interpretations have been made. Anti-LGBT Bible
interpretations commonly cite only eight verses in the Bible that they interpret
to mean homosexuality is a sin; Eight verses in a book of thousands! The editors claim that the word “homosexual” was not placed in the holy book until 1946. Their new version ais to correct the wrong interpretation. They also claim that King James Bible, the most popular Bible of all time, is the namesake of King James I, who wanted an English language Bible that all could own and read. They chose the 1769 King James Bible for the revision for the following reasons: The obvious gay link to King James, known amongst friends and courtiers as “Queen James” because of his many gay lovers. On their website they state he is called “Queen James” because of his many gay lovers. It is 400 years later and we are told that King James I was a well-known bisexual. Though he did marry a woman, his many gay relationships were so well-known that amongst some of his friends and court, he was known as "Queen James." In his honor that we name The Queen James Bible so.” There may be rumors or innuendo of King James being a homosexual but evidence to this has not presented it self historically. We are told “The Queen James Bible is based on The King James Bible, edited to prevent homophobic misinterpretation.” the publisher of the book on Amazon is listed as “Queen James.” Anonymous editors don’t carry much weight of trustworthiness when it comes to the Scripture being translated. The publishers are not known either. The promoters make the claim The Bible says nothing about homosexuality. REALLY? That’s like saying the Bible has nothing to say about Adultery or drunkenness either. First - King James was the one who commissioned the scholars, he had nothing to do with the translation except have his name put on it after his idea was employed. Thus he was remembered by the translation. What do the original languages of Hebrew Old Testament and Greek New Testament actually say? The Bible is clear on sexual immorality being anything outside marriage the way God intended as written in the Bible (man and woman). The other words and phrases used are just as clear about their violations. Passages are defined in Lev. 18:22-25; 20:13 for the nation Israel whom God separated to be holy and follow His ways. Their argument is flawed. The word homosexual[ity] is not used because it is a modern term, but it is clear that there are passages about homosexuality. i.e. 1 Timothy 1:9-10 which describes a man who has intercourse with another man. 1 Timothy 1:10 for fornicators, for sodomites, pornos: 1) a man who prostitutes his body to another’s lust for hire 2) a male prostitute 3) a man who indulges in unlawful sexual intercourse, a fornicator Likewise, arsenokoites means “a male homosexual, pederast, a sodomite. one who lies with a male as with a female, a sodomite: abuser of (that defile self) with mankind.” We also find these terms in classical Greek literature (Aristotle) applied to those attracted to the same sex. 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 (NIV): "Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters, nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders. Paul groups these sins as a warning of those who indulge in them. 1 Cor. 6:9 [Abusers of themselves with mankind] arsenokoitoi (NT:733). Paederastae or Sodomites. Those who indulged in a vice that was common among all the pagans; (from Barnes' Notes) This word was not used until Paul penned it. When Paul wrote his letters there was no Greek word that corresponded with our current English word “homosexual.” He combined two words: arsenos (male) and koitain (sleep with, lie in bed, to have sexual relations with, ie., intercourse). Unanimously all Greek dictionaries, have understood these words (arsenokoitai) to be referring to homosexuality. Malakoi refers to persons who are soft, effeminate, especially of catamites, men and boys who allow themselves to be misused homosexually.” Thayer’s Greek lexicon- malakos-1) soft to the touch 2) metaphorically, in a bad sense: effeminate: 1) used of a catamite 2) used of a boy kept for homosexual relations with a man 3) used of a male who submits his body to unnatural lewdness 4) used of a male prostitute. Bibles prior to 1946 have Romans 1:24-27: which clearly mentions
both men and women having sexual relations with the same sex. "Wherefore God
also gave them up to uncleanness, through the lusts of their own hearts, to
dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God
into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is
blessed forever. Amen. Homosexual behavior is described in the Old Testament an in the New Testament passage such as Rom.1:26-27. NKJV Rom. 1:26-27 “For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. The matter is being true to what the Greek or Hebrew words and concepts are. The words Paul uses here - malakoi (“male prostitute”) and arsenokoitai (“homosexual offenders”) have been translated in different ways. [Nor effeminate] malakoi (NT:3120)The word is applied in the classic writers to the Cinaedi, the Pathics, or Catamites; those who are given up to wantonness and sensual pleasures, or who are kept to be prostituted to others. Diog. Laer. 7:5, 4. Xenoph. Mem. 3:7. 1. Ovid Fast. 4:342. (from Barnes' Notes) All Greek scholars agree. “The Queen James Bible resolves any homophobic interpretations of the Bible, but the Bible is still filled with inequality and even contradiction that we have not addressed,” the web site notes. “No Bible is perfect, including this one. We wanted to make a book filled with the word of God that nobody could use to incorrectly condemn God’s LGBT children, and we succeeded.” Among the verses that they change are: Genesis 19:5. Originally reading, “And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? Bring them out unto us, that we may know them,” they amended it to, “And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? Bring them out unto us, that we may rape and humiliate them.” They say We side with most Bible scholars who understand the story of Sodom and Gomorra to be about bullying strangers. Strangers were not well-treated or well-regarded at the time of Bible (hence so much of the Word urging the love and acceptance of others). We know Lot asks that the men do not “know” the angel visitors “wickedly,” (Genesis 19:7), in other words “brutally,” which we understand to mean “rape.” We know from Leviticus that one is not allowed to have sex with a beast, and angels are not human. Plus, the passage mentions the men of the city; Obviously women and children aren’t going to be invited to a dominating and public rape, but we know there were women and children in Sodom because Lot had daughters. Rapes such as this one are common between men in prison; they aren’t sexual acts, they are power-dominating acts. Gen 19:4-8 we find that they rejected Lot’s offer of his daughters which does not leave much to consider what they wanted. To deny that this is a sexual act because it is domineering seems to purposely circumvent not prevent homophobic misinterpretation. They edited the eight verses in a way that makes homophobic interpretations impossible. This work of revisionists is to ameliorate certain passages as plausible deniability, clearly it has the intention to placate a certain portion of people that want to claim Christianity without the word as a mirror, seeing certain sins. A Christian that continually lies will object to passages that speak about lying, someone who has hatred will object to passages on hating the brethren. But it is not a lie nor is it hatred to tell the truth on mans propensity to be immoral and live in the old nature (Gala.5:19). Practicing a behavior as a lifestyle at the same time claiming to be a Christian does not change the fact that the Bible does call certain practices sin[s]. This is not treated as a gray area. Rev. 22:15: “But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie.” The Bible is teaching one cannot continue in any of these practices and enter God’s kingdom no matter what you may rename them as. This Bible will cost you $34.95 in dollars; spiritually it can cost a whole lot more. When you give what the some people want, they will buy it. But that does not mean you have helped them with the word of truth. For throughout the Bible we are warned to handle the word of God with care, accurately and not to change it. |
