PURGATORY CONTINUES

When the coin in the coffer rings the soul in purgatory springs the soul in purgatory springs so said Tetzel who was sent by the Pope to help raise funds for their building.

Who would not be moved by compassion to help anyone of their family to vacate such a place?

It was Pope Benedict the 15th that granted an indulgence for 500 hundred days if people were found wearing the brown scapular and kissed it. This certainly bypasses the teaching of suffering to cleanse one from sin. It was Pope John the 22nd that sold salvation for money and this rite continues today. The bigger the crime the more one paid, so the more money one had the more they could sin and pay their way out later. This is like bribing God.

Where did this teaching begin? It is based on a appearance St. Mary Magdalen Aponzi -the pain suffered by all the martyrs are pleasant gardens in comparison with the sufferings of the souls in purgatory (This was revealed to her in a vision)

A saintly religious woman was detained 16 days in purgatory for 3 trivling faults and she would have been there longer had it not been that she had been very faithful to the catholic church. St. Bridgette beheld as soul in purgatory tortured , explicitly for having been vain and having thought more frivolous diversions than those of spiritual things.

St. Peters Basilica was built by the funding of the naïve to help those who in reality could not be helped.

The idea of purgatory and prayers for the souls in a place of cleansing purgatory was not known in the church to until A.D. 600 when Pope Gregory the Great made claims about a third state-a place for the purification of souls before their entrance into heaven. It was not accepted as a dogma of the Catholic Church, however, until 1459 at the Council of Florence.

the Council of Trent which (Sess. XXV) defined: "Whereas the Catholic Church, instructed by the Holy Ghost, has from the Sacred Scriptures and the ancient tradition of the Fathers taught in Councils and very recently in this Ecumenical synod (Sess. VI, cap. XXX; Sess. XXII cap.ii, iii) that there is a purgatory, and that the souls therein are helped by the suffrages of the faithful, but principally by the acceptable Sacrifice of the Altar; the Holy Synod enjoins on the Bishops that they diligently endeavor to have the sound doctrine of the Fathers in Councils regarding purgatory everywhere taught and preached, held and believed by the faithful" (Denzinger, "Enchiridon", 983).

Purgatory (Lat., "purgare", to make clean, to purify) The Catholic teaching is a place or condition of temporal punishment for those who, departing this life in God's grace, are, not entirely free from venial faults, or have not fully paid the satisfaction due to their transgressions. The faith of the Church concerning purgatory is clearly expressed in the Decree of Union drawn up by the Council of Florence. (Mansi, t. XXXI, col. 1031),

Vatican 2 vol.1 p.74 indulgences offer efficacious helps in the task of winning salvation.” p.75 An indulgence is a remission before God of temporal punishment, do to the sins whose guilt has already been forgiven, which the faithful Christian gains under certain definite conditions through the churches help when a minister of redemption she dispenses and applies with authority the satisfaction won by Christ and the Saints.”

What Christ could not accomplish or finish the sinful priests on Catholic altars can. Amazing!

Catholicism also has treasury of which Christ is said to have “in trusted to blessed Peter and to his successors who are Christ’s vicars on earth so they may distribute it to the faithful for their salvation, once again we find the church stepping in as the mediator for Gods graces to be given to those who are in need of knowing him.

In this treasury Vatican 2 vol.p.66 states  This treasury includes in addition to Christ’s merit the prayers and good works of the blessed virgin Mary…also in the treasury are the prayers and good works of all the saints who obtain their own salvation by works and at the same time cooperated in saving their brothers. So good deeds can be transferred over to one in need, one can only wonder why Christ’s (God himself) work is not sufficient alone that we need the saints also.

Vatican 2 vol.1 p.68 “From the most ancient times in the church good works were offered to God for the salvation of sinners.”

This is not the ancient gospel which states in Rev.7:10 “salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne…

Do you see what is happening, the shift of emphasis from trusting in Christ alone to men and his work. To the churches authority and saints. The benefits of Christ do not come directly or in total to the one who needs salvation but is dispensed by the church as she sees fit.

Questions needed to be answered for those who hold to the unbiblical teaching of purgatory:

1 Pt.1:18 clearly states we were not redeemed by corruptible things like silver or gold (money in indulgences) but by the precious blood of Christ. So how can masses help cleanse one in the afterlife?

If purgatory is necessary for one to be cleansed to be ready for heaven by suffering, why is it someone can pray rosaries, have masses pay indulgences to cleanse us. Then we don’t actually have to suffer for our sins but we are told we cannot purge our sins without this suffering; so which is it?

In Gen. 2:1-2 in 6 days God created and finished His work and he rested, it was completed, finished. The cross has the same implication- God finished His work, it was paid in full, completed.

The same meaning is seen in Heb 4:10: “for one who entered His rest has himself also rested from his works as God did from his.” Have you entered the rest of Christ?

What happens to those in purgatory when Christ comes and their purging is not complete

Why is it that we need to be perfected before we go to heaven when Satan and his angels appear before God and they are not perfect? Is this not what the cross has done for the believer- made us acceptable in the beloved. Phil.1:21,23 Paul writes to die is gain, not pain and further suffering in purgatory.

But Col.1:24 says that Paul suffered for his salvation. No, it does not. He is speaking of suffering for the sake of righteousness in his course to fulfill his ministry. The suffering of Christians should never be confused with the redemptive suffering of Christ for our sins. We can't help in salvation by any type of suffering.

As the two criminals were being crucified one had a change of heart Luke 23:39-44 “Then one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying, "If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us. "But the other, answering, rebuked him, saying, "Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation? "And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong." Then he said to Jesus, "Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom. "And Jesus said to him, "Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.” Jesus did not say to this criminal today you will be in purgatory.  If any deserved NOT to be in paradise it was this man. Certainly he was not baptized, nor did he partake of any ritual in the church yet Jesus was willing to remit his sins and have him accompany Him into paradise that day. So why should some not think that all believers enter paradise by faith like this man– as the Bible promises

Ps 49:7-9: “None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him-- For the redemption of their souls is costly, and it shall cease forever--That he should continue to live eternally, and not see the Pit.” There is no payment for sin except the blood of God’s Son on the cross.

So how do we become righteous without purgatory? 2 Cor.5:21 we have the righteousness because of faith. It's God's gift ton those who believe.

We are holy and blameless before Him because of Christ Eph.1:1-14

Rev.7:14: “they washed (purged) their robes and made them white in the blood of the lamb.”

No matter how long you would spend in purgatory it would never pay for one sin you have committed, because God has not given men suffering in purgatory to cleanse you of your sins, but Jesus Christ's blood.
