PROPHETS OF THE OF THE  2nd Advent, Armegeddon and the Millennium

As we come to the end of the age measured in mans time we find increasing number of false prophets on the scene. Many have calculated  the ages in 1,000 years and in the 6,000 year Christ will return to rule in the millennium for 1,000 years. The year 2,000 is supposedly the 6,000th year since Adam was created.(4004 BC Ushers timetable) however a true calculation is held to this timetable would be that in 1996 it was the 6,000th year since Christ was born 4-6 BC..

The true test for a prophet is found in Deuteronomy 18:20-22. This scripture teaches that a prophet must be tested by checking his prophecies. Deut. 13:1-4 "If there arises among you a prophet or a dreamer of dreams, and he gives you a sign or a wonder, "and the sign or the wonder comes to pass, of which he spoke to you, saying, 'Let us go after other gods'-- which you have not known--' and let us serve them,'3 "you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams, for the LORD your God is testing you to know whether you love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.4 "You shall walk after the LORD your God and fear Him, and keep His commandments and obey His voice, and you shall serve Him and hold fast to Him."

Christ had said no one would know the time of his return "no one knows the day or hour" (Matthew 24:36; Mark 13:32). This is a Jewish idiom that means one cannot predict with any accuracy when he will come back. This in the Greek tense that means no man will ever know, only the Father knows, it is reserved for him alone. This doesn’t stop numerous people from saying that they DO know. They do this by playing word games such as the word ‘know’ does not mean what it says or they just ignore this warning. By doing this they fall right into the category of a false predictor of the times, what Jesus called a false prophet.

This is not done to slander or impugn anyone, but to make us think about being loose with our tongue and pursuing calculations from Scripture that we are told are impossible to know. And most importantly, abusing the authority of the Lords name and possibly operating under a deceiving Spirit. We should learn from history or are doomed to repeat its mistakes

mid 2nd Century A Movement started by Montanus who proclaimed himself as the Spirit of Truth believed he knew of things to come. Prophets and Prophetesses of the Montanist movement predicted that Jesus would return sometime during their lifetime and expected Millennium at any time. That New Jerusalem was going to descend from heaven and fix itself in Phrygeria in Asia Minor. The word went out for the people to gather there and await the 2nd coming.

375-400: Saint Martin of Tours (c. 316-397), who served as Bishop of Gaul, teaches that the Antichrist exists in his day, writing: "There is no doubt that the Antichrist has already been born. Firmly established already in his early years, he will, after reaching maturity, achieve supreme power"(from End-Times Visions Richard Albanes)

798 The Spanish monk Beatus (d. 798) feels that he will live to see the Antichrist and the end of the world by the year 800. (from End-Times Visions Richard Albanes)

848 Prophetess trained Thiota is able to gather a sizable following by announcing that the end of the world would take place by 848. (from End-Times Visions Richard Albanes)

1000 AD Many Christians in Europe had predicted the end of the world on this date. Most considered the anti Christ as coming. They believed Christ would return at the end of the first 1,000 years. People sold their businesses and left their fields. Raoul Glaber a Burgandian monk who was born in the late 10th cent wrote Histories which mentions a panic concerning the end Pope Sylvester the II spoke of hundreds of pilgrims flocking to the holy land in expectation of the end of the world.

1205 Joachim of Fiore predicted in 1190 that the Antichrist was already in the world, and that King Richard of England would defeat him. The Millennium would then begin, sometime before 1205.

1420 Martinek Hauska says the fire will come down. Hauska led a number of disgruntled priests to herald the 2nd coming. "They told everyone to hide in the Mountains, because between Feb.1 and 14 God would destroy every village and town with fire and usher in the millennium. (reference from Soothsayers of the 2nd Advent, William Alnor p.56)

1420: The Taborites, an extremist Christian sect, held that in 1420 God's fiery wrath would consume the world.

1527 Hans Nut a bookbinder declared himself a prophet and said he was sent to by Christ to herald his coming which was to be in 1528. Needless to say Nutting happened.

1533 The Anabaptists movement was fueled with end times fever. One writer prophesied that strassburg (France) was chosen by God to be the New Jerusalem. That Gods spirit would flow so strong through the miracles of the saints that no one could resist it. Enoch and Elijah were to appear to judge the unbelieving earth. When this failed two of the members claimed that they were the two witnesses and they were going to set up New Jerusalem in Munster.

1533 According to Melchoir Hoffmann (c. 1495-1543), Jesus' return takes place during this year.(from End-Times Visions Richard Albanes)

1534 Jan Matthys, a Dutch supporter of Hoffmann, preaches violence to cleanse the ungodly from the earth in preparation for Jesus' return and the world's destruction by Easter 1534.

1673: Deacon William Aspinwall, of the state's General Court predicts the world's demise "no later than 1673

1697,1716, 1736: Influential Puritan Cotton Mather (1663-1728) preaches that 1697 would be the year of the world's end. He later changes his prediction to 1716. After that date passes, 1736 becomes his new deadline for Christ's return.(from End-Times Visions Richard Albanes)

1700’s The Comisards were French prophets (Children as well) that spoke in tongues and went into trances.  They spoke of the destruction of the Roman Catholic Church referring it to Babylon. As things became estranged for them they fled to London and started to prophesy against the Church in London about their destruction and the new world to come.

1787 Shakers- Ann Lee had a vision while in prison  that she was to restore True Christianity establishing a perfect society on earth. Mother Ann Lee was believed to be the 2nd coming and was fulfilling in herself Christ's kingdom on earth starting with the Shaker church. The Shakers, believed that the world will end by 1792.

1835 Mormons  Joseph Smith predicts in 1835 that, "The coming of the Lord, which was nigh - even fifty-six years should wind up the scene" (Vol. 2 p. 182).

.....Were I going to prophesy, I would say the end (of the world) would not come in 1844, 5, or 6, or in forty years. There are those of the rising generation who shall not taste death till Christ comes....I prophesy in the name of the Lord God, and let it be written--the Son of Man will not come in the clouds of heaven till I am eighty-five years old. (History of the Church, 5:336; April 1843; Joseph Smith was born Dec. 23, 1805, so the Lord would come sometime after Dec. 23 1890)

On September 22 and 23, 1832, Joseph Smith foretold of an LDS temple to be built in Independence, Missouri. "Verily this is the word of the Lord, that the New Jerusalem shall be built by the gathering of the saints, beginning at this place, even the place of the temple, which shall be reared in this generation. "For verily this generation shall not all pass away until a house shall be built unto the Lord," (Doctrine and Covenants 84:4 & 5).

1843-44 2nd/ 7th Day Adventists William Miller, founder of the Millerite movement, predicted that Jesus would come on Mar.21,1843. William Miller's prophecy for the return of Christ had already failed. Miller had changed the year to 1844 with the same day March 21 as the time of Christ's appearing. When the latter date had passed a new date was set In August of 1844, Adventist preacher named Samuel Snow claimed he had discovered the exact day when Christ would return. October 22 1844 the Day of Atonement. This date arrived again Christ did not. Then the whole concept was changed to promote another doctrine called the investigative judgment, where Christ went from the holy place into the holy of Holies.

E.G. White continued this date setting "Soon we heard the voice of God like many waters, which gave us the day and hour of Jesus' coming." (Early Writings, p. 15 ) ‘The voice of God is heard from Heaven, declaring the day and hour of Jesus' coming, and delivering the everlasting covenant to His people" (The Great Controversy, p. 640)

"It is well known that many were expecting the Lord to come at the 7th Month 1845. That Christ would then come we firmly believed.( A Word to the Little Flock", p.22, 1847 edition, by her husband, James White)

"In a view given June 27, 1850, my accompanying angel said, "TIME IS ALMOST FINISHED....Said the angel, "Get ready, get ready, get ready...."....Then I saw that the SEVEN LAST PLAGUES WERE SOON TO BE POURED OUT upon those who have no shelter...." (Early Writings, p 64)

1844 Christadelphians- John Thomas was in agreement with the Ellen G. White on the date of Christ's return in 1844! "...we could agree and concluded to await the arrival of the Ides of March, 1844..." or another date of "..the 42 months of the Apocalypse and the time and a half of Daniel were expected to terminate in 1864-1868" (Eureka p.209)

1844 Baha’u’llah is claimed to be the 2nd coming of Christ by the Bahai’s. Speaking of Baha’u’llah ,"He is the Promised One of all Religions, whose coming was foretold in all the sacred scriptures," (Welcome to the Baha'i House of Worship, p. 2). Many Christians are surprised to find that a new messenger from God has already come, saying that he is the return of Christ." (The Return of Christ p. 4 1978 Bahai publishing trust) "Baha’ullah claims that he is the teacher from God for this day, that he is the return of Christ." (The Return of Christ p.2)

This is different than most false prophets in that he claimed to have already come and failed to set up the kingdom. Hes a dead ruler, whom the bible says the kingdom will never end.

1868 The Rev. M. Baxter (Church of England) predicts that the Battle of Armageddon would occur during this year.

Early 1990's: In 1992, David Koresh led the Students of the Seven Seals (the Branch Davidian’s) group in Waco Texas. He changed the name of their commune from Mt. Christians, beware of the seductive spirits that will soon descend on all our houses. (1 Tim. 4:11) …Ezekiel 38 predicts what is now taking place.... and much more. (all likely if Y2k is as a bad as some predict?)

2000 Marian/Catholicism

Father Stefano Gobbi, at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico December 5, 1994: "I confirm to you that, by the great jubilee year 2000, there will take place the triumph of my immaculate heart, of which I foretold you at fatima, and this will come to pass with the return of Jesus in glory, to establish his reign in the world. Thus you will be able to see with your own eyes the new heavens and new earth." ("Marian Movement of Priests" Message #532; National Cenacle of the M.M.P.; "The Apple of My Eye") Apparitions: appearances of Jesus and the Virgin Mary"

2000 The Stelle Group says economic depression would begin in 1975 and Armageddon would and an atomic war would end in 1999. A massive catastrophe will rearrange land masses triggered by the alignment of the planets on May 5, 2,000 AD.. Only 10% of the people would survive this, which will be them.

2001 The year that Edgar Cayce (1945) prophesied would bring a globally devastating 'pole shift'

2001  According to the Weekly world News for 2001-Feb.13, the rapture was expected on the 7th hour of the 7th day of the 7th month of the Hebrew calendar year that corresponds to 2007 CE. Jesus will appear simultaneously in Jerusalem, Baghdad, Washington, Moscow and in every other capital city of the world.

2007 Dr Michael Mau predicts that Armageddon has already begun and will intensify during 2007:

"...our planet, its vibrations accelerated, will swing out of the grip of the dark forces that have imposed upon us, horrors such as 911 and into the light. But there will be no avoiding the resulting turmoil: what we see now is just the beginning..." What happens from now until the year 2012?," at: http://www.arberton.com/

2007- Michael Travesser, a.k.a. Wayne Bent, of the Lord Our Righteousness Church, proclaimed that he is the Messiah. He and his 56 devoted followers live in Strong City, NM. He believed that the Book of Daniel predicted that some important events would occur on 2007-OCT-31 and DEC-15. This has been widely reported as a prediction that the world was to end with some sort of apocalyptic event at midnight on one of those dates.  The end of the world cult: Michael Travesser," Channel 4, UK. 2007-Dec, at: http://www.religionnewsblog.com/

2008 Ronald Weinland claims he "... has been send by God as His end-time prophet." Weinland predicted the demise of the United States, followed by the start of "man's final war" in 2008. He has published a book titled: "2008: God's Final Witness."

This list can go on and on, there are numerous other dates which cannot be verified at this time but this should be sufficient to prove the point.

Date setting has always proven false and those who do this have not looked at the past to see the great crowd of false witnesses behind them. But there may be many more in front of them as well especially as we see the turmoil of the world increasing.

To sum all this up. With all these predictions increasing someone is bound to possibly get one right, one of these times, maybe!

Jesus never said to look for Armageddon, or the antichrist or for calculating the day of his return, but to watch and be ready for you know not when the master comes. One thing we do know all these predictions proves he is closer to coming as he said there would be a rise of false prophets, prior to his return, just what we are seeing today.
