The Healing Codes – The secret of health and prosperity revealed?
Whenever we hear of a discovery or a cure that has great popularity, it is always wise to look at how it was discovered, who are the people promoting it, and what are they saying about it? Also, is it being promoted as God given, and is it biblically approved? This is especially important as we see well-known names attached to it. In this report, we will be taking a look at something called The Healing Code to help determine if this is something that Christians can and should safely participate in. Dr. Alex Loyd, who has a PhD in Psychology and an ND (doctorate) in Natural medicine, has “discovered” a new energy medicine he calls The Healing Code(s). Dr. Ben Johnson, M.D., N.M.D, D.O., who personally applied the results of The Healing Codes techniques, claims to have his ALS cured. Johnson left his medical practice and now works with The Healing Codes company full time. Together, Dr. Loyd and Dr. Johnson wrote the book The Healing Code. In that book, they claim that The Healing Codes is a “system that has been in the body forever but was only discovered in 2001.” Loyd and Johnson say, “It is not acupuncture or mudras or chakras or yoga or any of those methods. It is an absolutely new discovery” (p. 127). The Healing Code book has been seen in USA Today, People, Time magazine, as well as many other print media publications and has been printed in 16 languages to over 17 countries. It is the #1 bestseller in 11 categories on Amazon. Dr. Loyd lectures all over the world live, on radio, Internet, and TV. Thousands of people from all 50 states and more than 143 countries have now practiced The Healing Codes. This is not some obscure discovery being practiced by just a few. On the Healing Code website, we read: “Alex and Ben have been featured on network television, public television, and cable television. They will be featured in a Trinity Broadcast Network Special and in a DVD program that will be available in bookstores with Joel Osteen, Rick Warren, Beth Moore, and Joyce Meyer called “The Source of the Secret.” (information accessed on Sept. 2012) Dr. Oz states: “We’re beginning now to understand things that we know in our hearts are true but we could never measure,” he says. “As we get better at understanding how little we know about the body, we begin to realize that the next big frontier … in medicine is energy medicine [energy healing]. It’s not the mechanistic part of the joints moving. It’s not the chemistry of our body. It’s understanding for the first time how energy influences how we feel.” Mark Victor Hansen, co-author of the Chicken Soup for the Soul book series) says: “Dr. Alex Loyd has the defining healing technology in the world today – It (The Healing Code) will revolutionize health… It is the easiest way to get well, and stay well, fast… Dr. Loyd may very well be the Albert Schweitzer of our time.” There are endorsements by many doctors who are open to this new energy medicine. We should take note that Dr. Ben Johnson was the only MD featured on the DVD The Secret, a New Age-based method (the “law of attraction”) of gaining what one wants from a “universal force.” The Secret DVD (popularized by Oprah) is a mind-science method to attract health, wealth, success etc. Listen to the following quotes by Dr. Alex Loyd, founder of "The Healing Codes," regarding his thoughts on the The Secret: "In the Law of Attraction as it is taught in The Secret, there are a lot of wonderful things about it; there is a lot of truth there. But I think one of the ways that it misses the mark is that it shoots too low. . . . Rhonda Byrne [author of The Secret] filmed me to be part of The Secret, but I was left on the editing floor. And I believe it was because I talked in that interview so much about how the Law of Attraction, yes, is real. But the thing that determines whether the Law of Attraction is going to work in your life or not is the condition of your heart." (source) “And as Dr. Ben Johnson and I travel around the world and talk to audiences who are interested in or talking about The Secret, this is one question we ask them: 'How many of you are NOT having the results with The Secret?’ And there will be hands going up all over the room. And I can tell you the difference. The ones that are not having the results, their head and heart are conflicting. They've got something in their heart that's saying 'a-ah ... that's never going to happen, you can't do that, that's not going to work for you...' The people that are having it happen, their heart agrees with them already.” “When the head and heart conflict, the heart wins every time. Well, when I ask, believe, and receive, that's with my head. That's conscious. I know exactly what I'm asking for, and that's what the Law of Attraction may bring me, but only if my head and heart do not conflict.” Clearly, Dr. Loyd is an advocate for The Secret but wants to take it even further. The Healing Codes are being promoted as the next big frontier in medicine - energy medicine. It should be a concern for Christians and churches to be aware of the implications of what is being promoted through this new energy method. The Source of the Secret: Revelations of Faith, Joy & Gratitude Word-faith teachers like John Bevere, Oral Roberts, and several others have promoted the “Law of Attraction” as taught in The Secret. Here’s the promotion letter from the agency that promoted The Secret: “Following the immense success of Dr. Ben Johnson’s The Secret, GT Media announces the release of the DVD companion The Source of the Secret on June 24th. Offering viewers the chance to delve deep into the principles and promise of The Secret, The Source of the Secret goes beyond surface truths to more meaningful revelations. The DVD provides more profound insight into faith and goes beyond the media sound bytes to the substance behind the beliefs. Special features include interviews with the world’s leading and most influential teachers including Dr. Ben Johnson (The Secret), John Bevere, and Oral Roberts.” (from SliceofLaodicea.com) This Law of Attraction is what we see in word faith teachings. So it’s not surprising that certain evangelical pastors will be found promoting the DVD. The Source of the Secret trailer is with Ron McIntosh, Peter Daniels, Ed Gungor, Kyla Kurian, Robb Thompson, Victor Dickson, Brett Fuller, and Dan Arnold. Another version of The Source of the Secret Trailer also has Ron McIntosh, Oral Roberts, Lynette Lewis, Michael Hammer, and Rabbi Daniel Lapin. (Note 1/16/09: The interviews have been removed.) Dr. Loyd, who is a proclaiming Christian, explains his views on being Christian in an article titled “Spiritual Underpinnings of The Healing Codes”: “The term ‘Christian’ means different things to many different people, and lots of them are bad. This negative connotations have been rightly earned. Some of the greatest atrocities ever visited upon mankind have been done by so-called Christians, and in the name of Jesus. So, when you say the word “Christian,” there is no telling what it means to the particular person you're talking to. I myself had to get over certain things in my own religious upbringing. It literally took me decades to recover enough to believe in the true God, who is love.” The same is said in Diane Eble’s radio interview (Healing hearts issue tele seminar): “We not only hear of healing testimonies but peace, joy and love through doing The Healing Codes. People will say I don't know how this works, they don't care, just accept that it works. When it comes to spiritual healing in place of traditional medicine, people elicit a positive pragmatic view.” What we hear for an explanation is that there are many things that we don’t personally know what makes them work but we use them. This may be true for machines, electricity, nuclear reactors etc. but this is a spiritual discovery that we are told heals the body. For those who embrace interfaith, this is the ultimate answer that reaches over all boundaries as we are told it does not matter what you believe or not believe. The Healing Code works no matter what a person believes; it is spiritual. John Assaraf, author and mentor, featured on The Secret DVD states: “If you have a positive thought, your body actually goes into a positive vibration, you actually attract everything that resonates with that vibration.” This is a significant statement as there is a correlation to the discovery of this new healing energy. We read that Dr. Alex Lloyd and Dr. Ben Johnson teach people how to transform negative stress at a cellular level. Since all of our bodies are connected (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual) this transformation of negative stress helps all of our bodies return to balance, they say. (source) In 2001, Dr. Alex Loyd claims to have discovered how to activate
a physical function built into the body that consistently and predictably
removes the source of 95% of all illness and disease so that the neuro-immune
system takes over its job of healing whatever is wrong with the body. He claims
his findings were validated by tests and by the thousands of people from all
over the world that used The Healing Codes system. That any physical, emotional,
or relational issues are healed (from excerpts about the book,
The Healing Code). From the book’s publisher: “Universal Healing Code, which takes only minutes to do. The book also includes: The Seven Secrets of life, health, and prosperity. They are going to teach you to heal yourself.” In an environment of people seeking cures outside basic medicine, this becomes very appealing. In “The Spiritual Underpinnings of The Healing Codes,” Dr. Alex Loyd states: “I know that many of my fellow believers get nervous when they hear about ‘energy healing.’” He explains how he believes it fits into a biblical view :“This is a healing mode that applies quantum physics to healing … an approach that addresses issues at the level of energy. It is . . . a healing mode that works for anyone, no matter what they believe. Because it’s based on how God created our bodies and how he created the universe to work.” What he is saying is that it is aligned with how God created us, it is built in, and there is where his discovery came from. We are told it eliminates the root cause of any health condition, whether it be physical, emotional or mental – without the use of drugs, surgery, or medical treatments. It opens the cells of the body and takes them from a “defensive” mode to a “growth” mode, making your body immune to disease. It activates the 3 essential components of healing simultaneously, thereby making health restoration a certainty and not just a possibility. Alex Loyd’s Search for a Cure Before the discovery of his healing codes, Dr. Alex Loyd had a private counseling practice during which time he went back to school with the intent of becoming a “depression expert.” Dr. Loyd began a search for natural alternatives while looking for a cure for his wife’s 12-year bout with clinical depression. His attempt to find a cure through traditional medicine failed. He trained in various Chinese therapies, accupuncture, chakra, and energy therapies etc., none of which provided the level of relief he desired and hoped they would for his wife. Let me pause here and remind us what he stated, that it took him “decades to recover enough to believe in the true God, who is love.” I have to wonder what a Christian is doing experimenting with other religious practices to heal, especially chakras, which is directly linked to Hinduism and Yoga. After trying these various unbiblical methods, in the spring of 2001, Dr. Loyd discovered it: “a ‘revelation,’ a simple, and extremely powerful physical mechanism that would prove to be what he had spent so many years searching for. [He] discovered a healing mechanism now known as The Healing Codes that eliminates the physiological stress in the body.” (source) In one article, it describes how Dr. Loyd, while on a flight home from Los Angeles, made a shocking discovery: “What happened during that fateful flight can only be described as miraculous. All of a sudden, the 4 healing centers were spontaneously revealed to Dr. Loyd in a flash, as if by Providence, along with the complete blueprint for solving Tracey's clinical depression.” (source) After 12 years of trying the alternate healing methods for his wife’s depression Dr. Loyd began using his "blueprint" (later named The Healing Codes) with the clients he had in his private practice. “Much to his amazement, not only did The Healing Codes heal psychological issues like depression, they also healed a wide range of physiological disorders. He soon discovered that The Healing Codes could be used to create a pathway for the body to “heal itself from any illness.” (source)The Revelation At the LA airport in the spring of 2001, Dr. Loyd answered a cell phone call from his wife “who was horribly depressed.” He talked with her, prayed with her until the stewardess had him put the phone away. The plane took off. “What happened next I never know how to describe, I just tell the truth – it had never happened before, I did not see angels outside the plane window, there was no fog rolling down the fuselage of the plane, I heard no voices whispering in my ear, there was not angelic music playing, there was nothing that I would call mystical or weird but what did happen is I saw in my mind’s eye, I knew it was in my mind, but it was like it was written on the wall and for the next 3 hrs, I took dictation. And what was being dictated to me, what I saw written on the Pt.2 Radio program thc_Alex mandossian_pt2 on call with host Lori Rivers, Dr. Ben Johnson and Dr. Alex Loyd. -12.30 on audio) In another interview: “Then, at 30,000 feet, between Los Angeles and Nashville, 12 years of daily prayers were answered, God led me to what we now call The Healing Codes. That’s where it came from” ( The Passions of Real Life Legends sponsored by Healthy Wealthy nWise).Dictation From God? Dr. Alex Loyd is convinced this method was God-given, but we can see there was no spiritual testing of the source through a biblical manner. He accepted it because when he used it, it worked. There are many others that have received “revelation” in this manner and assumed it must be from God. Besides the obvious automatic handwriting or channeling that we hear of, many have had supernatural experiences of understanding things from within. To claim that the greatest discovery of healing came by a 3-hour dictation assuming to be from God is unacceptable to anyone who has respect for Scripture. To neglect the dichotomy of using this unknown energy in man and the biblical view that has absolutely nothing to say about this is at best a canard. No record of any prophet in the Bible receiving a vision or contact from God in this manner exists. Dr. Loyd obviously thinks that if something spiritual happens, if it works, then it must be God, but at the same time, he denies this is something mystical, which does seem to impugn his story. Did Jesus give us a technique, a method to heal when doctors could not? The codes were not discovered, but given to him by dictation. Here lies a huge problem. Many books assumed to be given by God through dictation (not just automatic handwriting) have been written: A Course in Miracles was dictated by a spirit that posed as Jesus; Helen Schucman, the author of A Course, skeptically began dictation from this “inner voice” claiming to be Jesus. Seven and a half years later, those dictations became A Course in Miracles. A book titled God Calling was similar to A Course in Miracles, which also purports to be Christ's words today. The Jesus Letters was assumed "received" from Jesus Christ by two women. The principal channeler was Jane Palzere. Let’s not forget Alice A. Bailey who was the chief channel of Djwhal Khul, a Tibetan Master, who dictated to her about 20 books filled with New Age knowledge. One only has to be in a receptive state to receive; you don’t need to use a Ouija board, be a trained medium, have a séance, or engage in special meditation for being contacted by a spiritual entity. The spirits come to you at the opportune time, when one is opened, in a heightened state of reception; and if you do not question it or resist it when it begins, they have you on the hook. Jon Klimo, author of one of the most definitive books on channeling, explains: “If your own mind can affect your own brain, then the similar nonphysical nature of another mind might also be able to affect your brain [if it is in a state of receptivity], giving rise to your hearing a voice, seeing a vision, or having the other mind speak or write [through you] by controlling your body the same way you normally control your own body” (Jon Klimo, Channeling. Investigations on receiving information from Paranormal Sources, Jeremy P. Tarcher, Inc., 1987, p. 249). There is far more to this activity than being psychic, channeler, medium, or doing remote viewing. Often this happens in an altered state when one may not be fully in control of their faculties. But it also can take place when one is fully conscious and awake yet in a heightened state of desperation. So when we hear of 3 hours of dictation on something one has no knowledge of, it cannot be accepted on the basis of “it must be God.” Having the intention to ameliorate modern medicine by a revelation from God is hardly justifiable. Instead of being impervious to New Age influences, Dr. Loyd was instead open because of his searching. Let’s face it, Christians can be deceived; in fact we are a target because we are to offer the truth that can heal every man’s problems for eternity. No wonder Satan works so hard to deceive us. The message that is consistently delivered is along the lines that we are gods (god like), we have this inherent power within, and that by discovering some process, we can tap into it and use it for our benefit. By using images, thoughts, words, or certain actions, we create or change our own reality (as in The Secret DVD). It all comes down to the same concepts. In this respect, Dr. Loyd adjusted what he had been delivered by the Bible. He says man was made in God’s image, (agreeing with Dr. Napier) therefore we have Him within us, all of humanity. Quantum Physics and The Healing Code Dr. Loyd says that after his discovery of The Healing Codes in 2001, he spent a year and a half validating it with medical tests in every hospital. He says that The Healing Codes system applies quantum mechanics to the realm of health—physical and emotional (source): “I go into all this because it is important to realize that The Healing Codes system is based on the way God created the world. In Genesis 1, it says God created all that is. He created energy. He set in motion the laws of physics, including quantum physics, the way DNA codes our cells, the way the planets move in their orbits—everything. And God made it all very good (Genesis 1:31)” (source). Yes, it was all very good until sin came into the world, and mankind was corrupted in his nature. We cannot reverse the effect by our thinking by our own power. The fact is, we all grow old and die. Dr. Loyd explains it as “a hidden fuse box on the body that we never knew was there before, it’s actually four healing centers that you activate very easily with your finger tips … and when you do that it heals the internal stress relating to whatever that issue is that you’re dealing with” (Interview by Jenell Walton: “Connecting Science with Spirituality”). In a Healing Codes Testimonial webpage, it tells a story about a man named Larry Napier who had a lesion on his arm that he didn't deal with for over a year. His doctor said it was basal cell carcinoma and told him to get it taken off before it metastasizes.Napier explains: “I got a call from Alex on Monday morning saying, ‘We need to meet, we need to talk, I have some things I could use some help with from you, I need to let you know what I'm doing.’ I couldn't believe as he started to talk to me what he was doing. Because from my biblical background, what he was saying would give me a lot of problems. So as he described what he was doing, I pulled up my sleeve and showed him the lesion on my arm. I said, ‘Are you telling me that what you're doing could remove this?’ He said, ‘I can teach you what to do to get it removed.’ I said, ‘I need a couple of days to pray and then I'll let you know if I'm willing to do this.’ “So after a couple of days I called him. He gave me exercises to do and I started doing them faithfully. About the third day, I saw a change, and in about six weeks, it was totally gone. It had been there for over a year. I'd been praying about it for over a year and nothing had happened to change it, it was just getting worse. But in the six weeks time it was totally gone. And I watched it disappear on a daily basis, almost, right before my eyes.” “… Since then, I've had other things that have shown up. and just immediately, any kind of problem that comes up, I immediately turn and start dealing with these exercises. “…. And at that particular point, I became a full believer in what was happening because I had experienced myself and then began a lot of extensive Bible study to help Alex explain in more detail from a Scripture basis what was happening.” (Larry Napier, Thomson Station, TN. Healing Code website) Larry Napier (whom Alex Loyd calls his “mentor”) is stating that he can prove from Scripture that this is all biblical. In a radio interview, Alex states anything made can be used for good or bad: “The core issue is what’s the source . . . and the fear and the concern that anybody would have when they hear about the codes and think about running energy back into the body, that that source is an evil source. . . I spent years. Wrote a whole piece in 1976 on God is all and in all and meditating on those two thoughts now since 76. And I told Alex and Hope the other day, we were together, I said I have been meditating on God is all since 1976 and I don’t think I have a thimble full of understanding of what that is. He is so awesome, he is some wonderful, he is so beyond. He says my thoughts are as high above your thoughts as the heavens are above the earth; that’s pretty far… here’s the essence for me “God is all” and he’s in all, there’s nothing that exists anywhere in the universe that he’s is not in. … and this aspect of every single thing that is created out here, all of creation … functions the exact same for everybody out here, no matter where you are and no matter what you believe. Creation functions according to absolute law. God’s the source of that. He’s the source of energy, he’s the source of life. When he takes his presence out of this particular body that I’m now in, there will no longer be energy flowing out of those fingers that no longer have life in them. But until he removes his presence, there’s going to be flowing out of my fingers. Now if energy is coming out of my fingers all day long and all my life, then the question become real simple. Whose the source of that energy. Do I take that energy and turn it back into my body and the instant I turn that energy back into my body, the energy that is God’s very presence in me and God’s presence that’s leaving me because God’s presence is always going out being replaced. Is that energy being turned back in become demonic? That’s not very sound thinking. . . . Every single thing works the same for everybody. Jesus made it absolutely clear, he said be like your heavenly Father who makes the sun shine and the rain to fall on the just and the unjust alike.” (interview with Diane Eble) This is not a biblical view: God in all things He created? God is transcendent from creation. Did Napier ever consider that the energy may not be coming from our body? Did he not consider that other sources, not of God, may be at work? Napier is stating this energy is God’s presence. According to Scripture, God’s presence is the Holy Spirit and He ONLY lives in believers because of their accepting the gospel. Yet, he is claiming the Holy Spirit is in everyone (like a life force). Is God’s presence being replaced? With what? More presence? Why? Yes, the Father gives the necessities of life to all. But that is not the same thing as the panentheistic view that God is in all people. Did Jesus made this absolutely clear that “Every single thing works the same for everybody.” Making this healing energy as a distribution for everyone is hardly what Jesus was referring to in Matt 5:44-46: v.45 ‘that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.” Jesus is speaking about the basic necessities of life that God provides, not that he heals everyone, or that we can heal ourselves. Case in point, Jesus did not heal those who did not have faith. Furthermore, Jesus spoke of that same rain judging those who do not base their lives on His words. Matt 7:24-26: "Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: "and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. "Now everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.” Do His words include teaching us how to use the Holy Spirit to heal ourselves by Loyd’s new energy discovery? No, I don’t see that. Napier goes on to state: “All things physical work like all things physical for everybody. The other point is this, Satan is not an originator of anything, he’s only a counterfeiter. He has only one thing to work with - God-given equipment, that he says, use it this way, this time for this purpose. He is a counterfeiter, he’s a masquerader; he’s a deceiver, but he is not an originator of anything, so it becomes real simple where this energy flow within our body is being directed back in where the source of that energy and does it work the same for everybody no matter what they believe? Yes. Why? Because breathing does too.” (Diane Eble interview starting at 54.00) Napier’s view that Satan does not invent things is nonsense. Yes, he counterfeits, but he is also a spiritual entrepreneur. What Napier is saying is that this God energy (His presence) is in everyone. That is not Christian teaching no matter how many Bible words you may use to try to prove it is. That is a total distortion and misuse of God’s Word. God is all in all and he is all? This is not the biblical view. This is a panentheistic view of God - flowing through us and all things - and cannot be reconciled with the Bible. It is what we commonly find in the New Age, that everyone’s body is an energy dynamo, but somehow we become sick with this energy present, so we direct it flowing from our fingers back into the body to heal ourselves. It is not biblical to manipulate this energy (God’s presence, which is the Holy Spirit). So why does it heal from the fingers and not while it is in the body? Really, the biggest problem with The Healing Code and with any other New Age kind of healing method has to do with man’s heart. The Bible lays it out very simply, that man’s heart is full of sin and every evil thing. It is only when a man sees himself as that wretched sinner and realizes his need for a Savior and accepts Jesus Christ into his heart by faith as the needed Savior that God will live inside a person. It is not Biblical to manipulate energy (God’s presence, which is the Holy Spirit). Those without Christ have no healing energy within themselves, and those who have Christ know that it is not their own energy that heals from within them, rather than searching out for some quantum energy within, we look to the Great Healer to take care of us in both in health and in sickness.
