Engle’s Angle pt.1

Lou Engle is Charismatic leader of Christianity in the US, he is called a revivalist and is even a visionary by some. He has been under the apostolic leadership of Che Ahn’s Harvest International Ministry (HIM) and the new apostolic movement.

This is where we begin in understanding Engle’s angle.

“Lou Engle is an HIM Apostle and HIM member since its founding. For more than three decades, Lou’s passion has been to call believers into radical consecration through prayer, fasting, and acts of justice. Lou has been involved in church planting, contending for the global harvest, establishing prayer movements and strategic houses of prayer. He is the founder of the pro-life ministry Bound 4 Life and has inspired other justice movements. HIM is excited to help Apostle Lou Engle see the dreams of the Lord fulfilled through his ministry and HIM’s financial contribution.

Engle calls Che Ahn his pastor, and is really the leader of The Call.

In case you do not know who Che Ahn is, one only needs to look at the Toronto Blessing to see his past participation, I went to Toronto, I received impartation.” Ahn saysThe 1994 revival in Toronto restored the office of the apostle with the birth of many apostolic networks” (Che Ahn ‘When Heaven Comes Down” 2009. The foreword is written by Rolland & Heidi Baker who were also involved in Toronto and associated with the NAR.)

A Prayer Event in Dallas, "Miracle services" 2005, organized by Cindy Jacobs 40 Days of Prayer and Fasting at the campus of Christ for the Nations Institute in Dallas had Ché Ahn, as a Keynote speaker. Including Morris Cerullo, John Kilpatrick, Guillermo Maldonado, Dutch Sheets, Steve Hill and Mahesh Chavda.

Che Ahn has been deeply involved with the Latter Rain revivalism, especially Lakeland and Todd Bentley. We can understand much from his conversation with Todd Bentley  “Bill Johnson called Bob Jones, and Bob Jones begins to prophecy, and he said, “This is the third wave.” Same thing you said last night… The moment he said, “this is the third wave-” this is not an exaggeration – I’m facing the beach. We’re all on the grass. … All of a sudden, from nowhere, this huge wave – I’m talking about a huge wave – went all the way, and hit us right at the feet where we were gathered together, seeking God. And it scared the day lights out of all of us.”

Todd Bentley:A literal wave?”

Che Ahn:We’re talking about one wave. It wasn’t a series or sets of waves. It was just a prophetic act. A sign from God. … It’s supernatural confirmation. A physical confirmation of what’s happening spiritually.” YouTube, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIAuD_OEcUs

Was this a true vision of a prophetic act from God? If Lakeland was the third wave then their revivalism is over according to their own words of prophecy from their prophets.

Che Ahn with Todd Bentley endorsed Bob Jones and false prophet and teacher William Branham. Ahn to Todd Bentley:And there’s a ‘Branham’ anointing on you. There’s a double portion of it.”

For the Lakeland revival Chuck Pierce sent "Be Revived" anointing oil to Che Ahn, Bill Johnson and John Arnott who laid on hands and anoint Todd Bentley at Lakeland.

On Bentley’s day off Che Ahn personally anointed the 1,000 or so pastors as "carriers of fire" to their churches. http://www.elijahlist.com/words/display_word/6611

Che Ahn says, that there is going to be a "great transfer of wealth" in the end times from the unrighteous to God's people. He bases his prophetic prediction on the book of Isaiah and also a book written by C. Peter Wagner.  https://www.charismanews.com/video/72430-che-ahn-prophesies-an-upcoming-great-transfer-of-wealth

How about it being based on the prosperity gospel of John Avanzini who began this rumor.

Ahn is a member of the ICA, International Coalition of Apostles (Peter Wagners NAR).

If you know the associations and participant’s you will know what Lou Engle’s ministry is about.

Before we proceed I want to define what the modern Latter Rain movement is. The main belief is that God is pouring out His spirit on all flesh, this is understood for the church, to give the church miraculous power to do miracles and healing, those that exceed the apostles. This is wholly based on Joel 2:23 that will produce a worldwide, some believe they will obtain immortality before Christ returns. (*for more of a refute http://www.letusreason.org/Biblexp100.htm)

Engle does not teach about the core doctrines of the Bible, much less any other systematic teaching of the Bible. We have looked for Engle speaking directly on Scripture, i.e. Gods nature, salvation and we cannot find it. The closest representation of theological statements we came across are ones like these, When god created YOU, he had a dream and wrapped a body around that dream to fulfil it.”

In his poetic explanation you are a mission God dreamed of (God does not dream, for he does not sleep. This word should not be applied for God). Engle does not clarify about unbelievers bodies whether God has dreams for them too.

Like ecumenist Tommy Tenney who became famous for a short time promoting our being God chasers.

His book “is dedicated to the original Dreamer” “God-and to that part of His dream that He has planted within His children. Keep His dream alive!” He interpreted Jn.1:1 the word as “In the beginning was the dream” (p. 22).

Tenney stated, “A true God chaser is not happy with just past truth; he must have present truth.”

Present truth is not what you get from the Bible but from the new revelator’s of the Latter Rain, the new apostolic movement (NAR) whom Engle is involved with.

Engle has become the face of this new apostolic prophetic prayer movement apparently because no one else can incite and motivate people like Engle can. Meekness in his speaking is not his forte, He is often intense, loud and vociferous as he relays his supernatural stories.  Is Engle exhibiting bravado or audacity that leads to controversy as he speaks what he claims is God’s heart.

I can only conclude from what I have heard and read that Engle avoids speaking directly on or from the Bible. Which does not allow you to find out what he really believes. What you get is an image of a ministry whose mission is calling a generation to a Nazirite consecration, fasting and prayer, and the pursuit of Gods dreams for their lives. That Billy Graham’s mantle is falling on a new generation of evangelists, and streets and stadiums will be filled with a new song of God’s salvation.”

These underlined topics are what we will examine in light of the Scripture.

Engle’ s participation and associations with the New Apostolic reformation NAR are clearly established in is his Latter Rain promotion (which is what the NAR is all about).

Engle and Mike Bickle began ministering together in the late 1990s. In the late 80’s Mike Bickle headed up the Kansas City prophets until Paul Cain became the chief prophet. They were then accepted in the Vineyard church of John Wimber. Bickle is the  founder and director of IHOP International house of Prayer (24/7 praying).(see this info on Mike Bickle- pt.1 Mike Bickle's Quixotic Spiritual Quest - The Latter Rain  basis of the prophetic movement and Bickle's IHOP)

Engle was a senior leader of the International House of Prayer and has assisted in the establishment of several smaller "houses" of prayer

Engle, a former leader is still involved with IHOP.  In 2008 at the Kansas City IHOP, Engle prophesied:

"I believe we’re headed to an Elijah/Jezebel showdown on the Earth, not just in America but all over the globe, and the main warriors will be the prophets of Baal versus the prophets of God, and there will be no middle ground,”….’There’s an Elijah generation that’s going to be the forerunners for the coming of Jesus, a generation marked not by their niceness but by the intensity of their passion,’ ...”

An Elijah/ John the Baptist generation is the theme of the Call.

Engle spoke at IHOP July 15, 2011 and at IHOP’s Onething December 31, 2011. He also endorses Paul Cain who continued William Branham’s Latter Rain teachings.

At the Call Asuza 2016 with Bill Johnson (Bethel Church in Redding, California), is considered an apostle by the NAR. Prophet/teacher Mike Bickle (International House of Prayer in Kansas City, Missouri) has been involved with apostolic movement since its inception and  YWAM founder Loren Cunningham was there Engle is now considered the apostle of prayer by many.

DEDICATING THE NEW DAY, with Dutch Sheets & Lou Engle. January 18, 7pm, Capital Life Church, 1800 N Glebe Road, Arlington VA. Inaugural prayer and prophetic release! Hosted by JHOP-DC and Lamplighter Ministries CALL WITH JOHNNY ENLOW!

Enlow is one of the main promoter’s of the 7 mountain mandate. Dutch sheets is with the NAR.

Ecumenical Unity sought and found

The Berean call notes: For some time now Catholic evangelists Keith and Iwona Major have worked with The Send founder Lou Engle and IHOPKC’s (International House of Prayer Kansas City) Mike Bickle to unify Catholics and Protestants.

Lou Engle states, “Keith and Iwona Major are a bridge to helping the Evangelical and Catholic worlds become one. I bless this couple for all they are doing.” [https://stonetoflesh.org/endorsements/

Engle promotes ecumenical unity with Rome that has a very different gospel. At his Call event   at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum (Apr 10, 2016)over 100,000 people attended.

Matteo Calisi, a Roman Catholic leader who had been appointed by “Pope Benedict” to serve on the Pontifical Council for the Laity, also served as president of the Catholic Fraternity of Charismatic Covenant Communities and Fellowships. Calisi founded United in Christ, an organization that strives for ecumenism between Christians and Catholics.

Matteo said "I bring you a salute from a 150,million charismatic catholics… we are part of the same family … it is the prophecy of Joel in action – he said in the last days he will pour out his spirit upon all flesh so we have a evangelical flesh we have a protestant flesh, we have a Catholic flesh.

Here we have the basic false teaching that is of the Latter Rain, its not believers he pours His spirit out on but UNBELEIVERS.

Calsi told the Call attendees “division between Christians and Catholics is a “diabolical sin,”

He went on to say to the attendees Jesus said make us one until the world believes, we need to repent in the past 2000 years the world does not believe yet that Christ is Lord. What hinders the world from knowing Jesus,, and one big part of that is the division of Christians, division is a diabolical sin, we need to repent and pray to remove the thing that hinders the world from believing.  Jesus doesn’t care” that Christians and Catholics disagree on biblical doctrine." This leads to the wide road of unity with anyone when doctrine is dispensed with.

What hinders the world is not hearing the gospel in a clear concise relevant form so they can make an actual choice and that would certainly be the fault of Roman Catholicism. Contrary to his statement  there are different reasons for division. If division is a decision made over false teaching, to separate one self from it Jesus does approve.

On stage Calisi then turned to Engle and said, “We wanted to, Lou, kiss your feet as Catholics,” as an act of reconciliation. Engle is next seen prostrated to “kiss his feet” to complete this act of reconciliation between “Christians” and Catholics.”

I would have you ask, is this Christianity from the Bible, or from the new apostolic movement? Think of that as you go through these articles.

Along with his associations we first need understand some of the influences in his background to know what has shaped his mission and ministry.

Influences

Lou Engle says, while reading the classic book “Rees Howells: Intercessor” “I was suddenly arrested by the following paragraph that could, if it is true, light a fire of prayer that could shape the face of the whole earth and trigger the return of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Then, while in Africa, he (Rees Howells) had been struck by Andrew Murray’s comment on the Savior’s word in Matthew 9:38, “Pray ye the Lord of the harvest that He will send forth laborers into His harvest.” Andrew Murray has pointed out on the strength of this verse, that the number of missionaries on the field depends entirely on the extent to which someone obeys that command and prays out the laborers; and the Lord had called Mr. Howells to do this.”

If this Scripture and Andrew Murray’s commentary on it is true and the church really understood its implications, then Matthew 9:38 would be on the fiery lips of millions of believers everyday worldwide. Jesus is very clear in Matthew 24:14 that he cannot return to the planet until every ethnic group has had a witness of the gospel of the kingdomAnd if Andrew Murray is right, the only reason is that the church has not prayed the laborers into those fields. I am seriously asking myself and all those who read here this question…Have I merely taken Matthew 9:38 as a simple suggestion from the Master? And have I trivialized the main prayer request that Jesus Himself made of His disciples?”

“I write this message believing that an Earth-shaking revolution is about to take place because the Lord of the Harvest is breathing this prayer upon the Church of the earth. If the first apostles were commanded to pray this prayer before they were sent, how much more will the last Apostolic generation be required of Heaven to pray this prayer to bring forth the fulfillment of the task that “this gospel of the Kingdom must be preached as a witness to all ethnos (ethnic groups), and then the end shall come (Matthew 24:14)”? https://www.ekballoschool.com/lou-engles-story

Exactly what is an Apostolic generation? Does he mean those under the NAR. Are we “the last Apostolic generation”?  Are we an apostolic generation at all?

This preaching of the gospel as described here for Jesus’ return will occur in the Tribulation. It is then when we see an untold amount of people (Rev.7) are saved. It is not that representatives of every ethnicity must hear the gospel from every group as THE requirement for Jesus to return. Before the Tribulation commences we see people “Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation” in heaven (Rev. 5:9). In saying this we must understand in the overall view, that Jesus does not return to earth until after the tribulation, in fact He ends it with his return.

Rees Howells: Intercessor (By Norman Grubb) has some good things said, and not so good. In fact there a whole lot statements that are seriously wrong.  Howells saw the need for the Jews to go back to their homeland, which was promised to them by God. That is good. However when we look at Matt 24:14-16 “And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.’ There is a specific timing in this. V. 15 "Therefore when you see the 'abomination of desolation,' spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place" (whoever reads, let him understand), then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.”

This is referring to Dan. 11:31 He “shall take away the daily sacrifices, and place there the abomination of desolation.” When this occurs they are flee immediately from Israel. Dan.12:11-12 which explains further of the 3½ years that follows, as Jesus says “For in those days there will be tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of creation” (Mark 13:19).

So using this scripture the way he did was not correct. He was expecting “the Holy Ghost would never fail in the future to overcome all obstacles and reach every creature with the gospel in this generation.” (p.300) Though his intentions were good this did not take place, for God has a timing for this in the end. This goes for both Howells and Engle.

We find that Howells accepted the same error found in the latter Rain movement.

“Increasingly we looked to the Holy Spirit Himself, poured out on all flesh as Joel prophesied,” (https://www.byfaith.co.uk/paulreeshowells.htm)

What seems to be more unusual than Biblical  is on pages 16-18 Rees is said to be led by God to fully surrender himself to God; referring to Luke 9:23-24. He hears a voice telling him, if he doesn't fully surrender to God and choose to only do God's will by 6 o'clock that night, and not a minute past 6 as the deadline, then he will never have another chance to choose to fully surrender his will to God.

God does not manipulate us with threats like this. He is gracious, longsuffering, He patiently works with us as individuals.  Howells instead presents the Holy Spirit as very strict to him.

Howell says: THE HOLY SPIRIT TAKES POSSESSION of self, and the life I will live in you will be one hundred percent for others. You will never be able to save yourself, any more than the Savior could when He was on earth. Now, are you willing?"

That is a very strange statement to say of the savior who came to die for our sins, and not save himself.

The Spirit challenged him again stating: "How can you do that? You have seen the position of the overcomers, but you have not entered in. I have been dealing with you for five days; you must give Me your decision by six o'clock tonight and remember, your will must go. On no account will I allow you to bring in a crosscurrent. Where I send you, you will go; what I say to you, you will do." It was the final battle on the will."I asked Him for more time," Rees continued, "but He said, 'You will not have a minute after six o'clock.' When I heard that it was exactly as if a wild beast was roused in me. 'You gave me a free will,' I answered, 'and now You force me to give it up.' 'I do not force you,' He replied, 'but for three years have you not been saying that you are not your own, and that you wanted to give your life back to the Savior as completely as He gave His for you?'…'You are not forced to give up your will,'He said again, 'but at six o'clock I will take your decision. After that you will never get another chance.' It was my last offer; my last chance! I saw that Throne (Rev. 3:21) and all my future for eternity going. I said, 'Please forgive me, I want to do it.'"Once more the question came, 'Are you willing?' It was ten minutes to six. I wanted to do it, but I could not. Your mind is keen when you are tested, and in a flash it came to me, 'How can self be willing to give up self?'

I do not see any evidence of the Holy Spirit acting in such a manner from the Scripture, nor saying things like this. We are to surrender each day to the Lord, not just once, it is a daily struggle of our will to not yield to the flesh and instead yield to the Spirit. It is not something that is ever removed on earth. It is part of a process the Bible calls sanctification.

Howells says “Five to six came. I was afraid of those last five minutes. I could count the ticks of the clock. Then the Spirit spoke again. 'If you can't be willing, would you like Me to help you? Are you willing to be made willing?'"'Take care,' the enemy whispered. 'When a stronger person than yourself is on the other side, to be willing to be made willing is just the same as to be willing.' As I was thinking upon that point I looked at the clock. It was one minute to six. I bowed my head and said, 'Lord, I am willing.'"Within an hour the Third Person of the Godhead had come in. He gave Rees that word in Hebrews 10:19,"Having therefore boldness to enter into the Holiest by the blood of Jesus." "Immediately," said Rees, "I was transported into another realm, within that sacred veil where the Father, the Savior and the Holy Ghost live. There I heard God speaking to me, and I have lived there ever since. When the Holy Ghost enters, He comes in to 'abide for ever.' (p.42)

Transported to another realm where the Trinity lives (heaven?). This is not what this Scripture is speaking of, the veil was removed for all believers when Jesus died, and said it is finished (Mk.15:38; Heb.10:20).

Rees Howells is known to have started a prayer movement early in the 20th century. It is said, the Holy Spirit took possession of Howells in 1906. Howells concluded “that the Holy Ghost, who had entered the Apostles on the day of Pentecost, had entered him and would produce similar results (p.43). That “The bodies of Peter and the others had become His temples. The Holy Ghost as a divine Person lived in the bodies of the apostles, even as the Savior had lived His earthly life in the body that was born in Bethlehem.” (p.251, Intercessor)

Is this the same thing? Jesus is God the Son incarnate  (became man). This is not the same as the Holy Spirit who living in us by being born again. But this is the teaching we find today by the modern revivalist that claim we too can do all the same Jesus did because we have the same Holy Spirit like he did. This view came out of the heretical Latter Rain teaching.

My point in saying this is that Engle’s influence from Howells is clearly seen in his ministry. And this becomes even more evident with Howells teaches about "agonizing" in prayer, and interceding, which is not required in the Bible. The New Testament records the agony of Jesus expressed in Gethsemane on his future separation from the Father, as He would bear the sins of the world. It had him weep and sweat drops of blood while in the Garden of Gethsemane. This is a unique event and not repeated for anyone else.

The burden Jesus gives is light, not heavy (Mt. 11:28-30). "For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

Hyper spiritual stories and statements are given in various events all through his book. One needs to read it with a grain of salt.

Howells says of our prayer “moves God. He even causes Him to change His mind.” (p.95) Does  God not know the future, that which is written cannot be changed.  Howell’s also taught word faith concept, “Prophecies must be believed into manifestation, as well as foretold.” (p.257)

So we can see the intensity of Howell and his doctrine has an influence on Engle, and there are influences from others also.

Engle states, “Years ago, in the 90s, I experienced a prophetic swirl that I believe is pointing to a specific time of fulfillment. I woke up one morning with an intense desire to read two books that were very dear to me: Rain From Heaven by Arthur Wallis, the father of the Charismatic Movement in England, and Shaping History Through Prayer and Fasting, by Derek Prince. The catalyst of that desire was a specific chapter in Shaping History Through Prayer and Fasting, titled "Fasting Precipitates the Latter Rain." I looked feverishly for those two books but I had either lost them or given them away. For a whole day I experienced groanings of the Spirit, praying that I might find those books. I wanted confirmation that a movement of fasting would precede the latter rain revival. God Showed Me: It's Time for the Latter Rain" (Lou Engle, Colorado Springs, CO http://www.elijahlist.com/words/display_word.html?ID=19580 You can hear of him speaking on this on youtube -Lou Engle at Global Summit 2016)

Ahh, there we have the cards laid on the table, the Latter Rain movement that was spearheaded by William Branham.  Who was also given a fasting book, Franklin Hall’s (1946) book on “Atomic power through prayer and fasting,” that affected everyone in the Latter Rain movement. who made famous the fire baptism teaching (that was what was offered at Engle’s first send 2019 meeting). Halls teaching was that God was going to cause a group of super-saints to arise, believers who would be physically immortal, i.e. manifest sons of God.

Gordon Lindsay who wrote on Branham said:We know of no writer whom God has so signally used to bring out Scriptural truth on fasting as Evangelist Franklin Hall. We feel that “Atomic Power with God” is the book of the hour for believers.”

Lou Engle statedThe analogy of atomic power is like the power of how Fasting affects your Prayers. When the outpouring began in 1947 they called it the “latter rain.” Signs and Wonders exploded, 70 years ago! We are in this same season now.”

This shows Engle is very familiar with the Latter Rain of Branham and that he is staunch promoter. In fact, this is what his ministry is all about. Engle says, "There's coming a time for the outpouring of the latter rain and you must pray and fast to give birth to it!"

So you can see that these same errors of Branham are being repeated through Engle.

Engle did not get his confirmation of a movement of fasting would precede the latter rain revival from the Bible but from men's books. It’s not God that showed him it is time for the Latter Rain (Nor is it seasonal.) This has been said to be taking place even before Asuza st. occurred, and not just through the 40’s or 50’s by William Branham. According to Bible the Latter Rain is initially for Israel, begins in Israel for the Jews to be saved and its timing is in the Tribulation, it is not for the Church.

The newest packaging of the Latter Rain

Engle says, In 1976, I moved to Ashland Theological Seminary in Ashland, OH, not far from Columbus. There I made a vow that I would seek Acts 2 no matter what the cost. That vow sent me on the journey that I am now on calling for Joel 2 gatherings of corporate fasting and prayer, believing for Acts 2 outpourings. I have to believe that TheCall has been a Joel 2 preparation for the fulfillment of my personal transaction with Heaven. I'm still looking for Acts chapter 2.”

Engle’s self pursuit for an Acts 2 event had crippled his understanding of the Scripture of how and when this is to occur.

In the Message titled:  God Confirms His Promise "It's time to shape history with prayer and fasting." Engle spiritualizes not only his experiences but Scripture “There's coming a time for the outpouring of the latter rain and you must pray and fast to give birth to it!" The Scripture commands us in Zechariah 10:1, "Pray for the rain in the time of the latter rain..." but how do we know when it's time?

Let’s first look at Zech. 10:1-2 “Ask the LORD for rain In the time of the latter rain. The LORD will make flashing clouds; He will give them showers of rain, Grass in the field for everyone.”

The Bible uses this rain literally, speaking of the autumn rains in Israel. Furthermore, in V.2 Zechariah goes on to say For the idols speak delusion; The diviners envision lies, And tell false dreams; They comfort in vain. Therefore the people wend their way like sheep; They are in trouble because there is no shepherd.”

When read in context one cannot dismiss that this is what Engle is doing in his application. He goes on explainingJoel chapter 2 gives us the paradigm for recognizing these times and seasons. Joel's prophecy is set in the context of the utter destruction of the economic system of Israel due to the nation's spiritual apostasy. The prophet gives God's prescription to the crisis: he calls for united fasting and prayer, after which he promises the restoration of the land of Israel and the outpouring of the latter rain of the Holy Spirit on all flesh, i.e. the Gentile nations. By these two things the outpourings of the Holy Spirit among the Gentiles and significant happenings concerning the state of Israel we know we are in the time for Joel 2 fastings.”

Branham speaking of the Latter Rain “...we're living in the very day that God has promised that He'd pour out His Spirit on the Gentile Church. He poured out His Spirit upon the Hebrew Church that day at the beginning at the day of Pentecost. He said, "There'd be a former rain and the latter rain." The two different people, the Jew and the Gentile. And in this last days, He'd pour out His Spirit upon the Gentile Church (56-0902, The Handwriting OnThe Wall, Branham Tabernacle, Jeffersonville, IN)

Israel and the Latter Rain

Engle says, “Historically, in 1948, the Holy Spirit was poured out in a movement called The Latter Rain. They had been fasting for three months in the winter of '47 and '48, inspired by a book called Atomic Power With God, Through Prayer and Fasting that had become a catalyst for a worldwide fasting movement. The Spirit was poured out in early 1948 and they called it "The Latter Rain". Also in 1948, we see the second dimension of fulfillment of Joel's fast in which God says that He will restore the land, the grain, the oil and the new wine. This is exactly what happened in 1948? Israel became a nation and the land was restored.”

Who is the “they” that called it the Latter Rain in the 40’s, the false teachers.  When Israel became a nation it was not in Christ (which is what the Latter rain of the Spirit is to do) and they are still not in Christ, who is he fooling by this interpretation?

Engle tries to find a spiritual connection in Bible history with our modern history. Granted there are at times some similarities, but Engle often ends up on the extreme with the contention that “this is that.”

“In a similar fashion, in 1967, Israel took back the entirety of Jerusalem in the Six Day War. For the first time since the destruction of the city in 70 AD, it was back in the hands of the Jewish people. In both '48 and '67 there were wars fought concerning these historic transactions. At the same time in 1967, the worldwide Charismatic Movement begins, the Jesus Movement was manifested, and Jews began to come to Christ in unprecedented numbers. Do you see it? Once again, Gentile outpourings and natural historic events taking place in the land of Israel flowed together.”

What is stunning is the cycle we find ourselves in now at the 70th anniversary of The Latter Rain outpouring and the 70th anniversary of Israel becoming a nation. Daniel, when he understood that 70 years was up for the desolations of Jerusalem, set himself to fasting and praying. Shortly afterwards, Cyrus, the new king, issued a decree for Jerusalem to be rebuilt and for the Jews to return to their land. It is my contention that we are now in a similar 70 year cycle and that Joel 2 must precede another outpouring and a significant transaction over Israel and Jerusalem.”

I see what God did for Israel; but no, I do not see any correlation with both the Charismatic Movement and Jesus’ Movement’s timing, as if they are connected to the 1940’s Latter Rain. The Jesus movement was genuine, beginning among the hippies of the day, completely separate from the Charismatic movement that was ecumenical and doctrinally inept. Certainly in this manner it would relate to the Latter Rain of the 40’s that was birthed and promoted by William Branham a false teacher.

Is what Engle says accurate in his application? First, Israel was expected by God to go to Babylon, it was God’s doing to preserve and punish them. Daniel understood this captivity was almost over. Latter Rain teachings are always about numbers, cycles. Using typology as doctrine, with places, events and people (like a Joshua generation, Moses, Joel, apostolic, etc.   Second Joel 2 is about sounding the warning “For the day of the LORD is coming” (The Tribulation), almost upon them where they have little time before darkness and the armies march. This is when the Lord intervenes for Israel against her enemies, where all of Israel is saved both spiritually and physically. Yet Engle says this all precedes a new outpouring of the Latter Rain on gentiles. This is completely upside down.

Engle refers to the Latter Rain constantly in his speaking. There should be no question that this is what he is introducing to the church. Along with this come all his friends and associations involved that will leaven any good and accurate teaching on this or anything else.
