Unto us an Angel is Born The Jehovah Witnesses show fear and superstition in many ways. The problem is that they are not consistent in their teaching throughout their own history, when we compare their current position they contradict the old position. When we look at the Bible they are at the opposite end of the spectrum on who came to earth and was incarnated, so they contradict the Bible as well. Michael, the chief angel hence Michael is not the son of God and the reason is, because he has “by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they” (Watch Tower p.4, reprints p.48 11/1879) There confusion grew “Michael the great prince is none other than Jesus Christ himself Dan.12:1” (Watch Tower 12/15/1984 p.29) Michael the Archangel, the first creation of Jehovah, before He came to earth and returned to the identity of Michael after his resurrection (Aid To Bible Understanding, p. 1152 1970’s). While this interpretation suits them, the Bible says he is a human not an angel. “For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus” (1 Tim 2:5) “Scriptural evidence indicates that the name Michael is applied to God’s son before he left heaven to become Jesus Christ.” (Aid to Bible Understanding) “There was, therefore, a time when Jehovah was all alone in universal space” (Let God Be True, p. 25). Being alone, the first creative act of Jehovah was to create his Son. “The Logos was the first and only direct creation of Jehovah." (The Harp of God, 1921, pgs. 98-99) So they are teaching that an angel named Michael was the first (and only) thing God created- where does the Bible ever say this? The Bible mentions the angel Michael only five times. Three in the book of Daniel, and twice in the New Testament. None imply what the Watchtower organization teach to their members. Dan 10:13 “But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; and behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left alone there with the kings of Persia. Michael is not THE chief but one of them, which does not make sense if he is the head of all the angels, or as the Watchtower teaches- their creator. In fact the word one of is echad in Hebrew, meaning he is united with a group of angels that are termed princes, not distinguished from them, making him NOT unique as God’s only son. Dan 10:21 “But I will tell you what is noted in the Scripture of Truth. (No one upholds me against these, except Michael your prince. Dan 12:1 “At that time Michael shall stand up, the great prince who stands watch over the sons of your people; and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was MICHAEL is the “prince” of Israel, a protector and guardian in a time of conflict “over the nation. Jude 1:9 Yet Michael the archangel, in contending with the devil, when he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but said, “The Lord rebuke you!” Rev 12:7-8 And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer.” Just as the Devil is numbered among his kind so is Michael. What is perplexing the Watchtowers changing position on this angel, they once stated to their members “You must worship and bow down to Jehovah's chief one, namely Jesus Christ” (Watch Tower 10/15/1945, p. 313) Even there own Bible which they considered to be the most accurate translation stated “When he brings his firstborn into the inhabited earth, he says, and let all Gods angels worship him.”(Heb.1:6 NWT 1961 edition p.1293). So when it comes to the issue of Christmas we find that they once celebrated the incarnation of an angel named Michael. It is quite immaterial the day Christmas is celebrated; we may properly join.” (Watch Tower 12/15/1903, p. 3290) Don't quibble about the date; join in with the world and celebrate Christmas.” (Watch Tower 12/1/1904, p. 346) “Christmas is so important, regardless of the date”.(Watch Tower 12/15/1926, p. 371) Like with “other things,” the Jehovah Witness organization changed their mind and condemned all their predecessors by worshipping a creature, along with their founder to idolatry. Finally they made up their mind and the position they hold today: “Jesus was not born on December 25th.... Hence, celebrating on December 25 is his birthday through Christmas observance totally inappropriate for those guided by the Holy Scriptures” (Watch Tower 12/15/1979, p. 5) Who is Michael and who is Jesus? “Scriptural evidence indicates that the name Michael is applied to God’s son before he left heaven to become Jesus Christ.”(Aid to bible understanding) “Before 2 B.C. God's only-begotten son in heaven was called Michael, this name meaning “who is like God”?' (Your Will be Done on Earth, 1958 edition, pg. 315) If Jesus is Michael then what Jesus spoke in Jn. 5:39 of Scripture testifying of Him is really about an angel, not God. Again, the Bible mentions Michael very few times. The Bible is very clear who became flesh and it was not an angel. Like the Jehovah Witness, I wouldn’t want to celebrate the birth of Christ either if it was about some angel come to earth- but it is not. Michael means who is like God; it is a question not a statement about an angel and the answer evades the Jehovah Witnesses- for it is not an angel but the Son who is born. Exod 15:11 “Who is like You, O LORD, among the gods? Who is like You, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders? Ps 71:19; O God, who is like You? Ps 113:5 Who is like the LORD our God, who dwells on high, 2 Sam 7:22 “Therefore You are great, O Lord GOD. For there is none like You, nor is there any God besides You, according to all that we have heard with our ears. also1 Chr 17:20 Isa 46:9 “ for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, There is none like God, no angel, no other god (which they Jehovah Witnesses think Jesus is). That is the point. Even their founder Charles Taze Russell said that God created angels to remain angels. In his book, “Studies in the Scriptures” vol. I pg. 182, said, “When God made angels he doubtless intended them to remain angels forever, and so with men, each being perfect on his own plane.” You can't get much plainer than that. Angels, according to Russell were to remain angels forever. So how did the Watchtower come to the conclusion to contradict their founder? Even today they hold the same position on Jesus “The Bible teaches that Jesus lived in heaven before he came to earth.” Micah prophesied that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem and also said that His origin was “from early times.” (Micah 5:2) P.41”What Does the Bible Really Teach”) This is a distortion of the intent of Micah 5:2 “But you, Bethlehem Ephratah, though you are little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall come forth to Me the One to be Ruler in Israel, whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting.” Everlasting- `owlam means in Hebrew the vanishing point; unable to be measured, everlasting would be another word for eternity in our language. The same word is used for the Son is also used to describe God, Jehovah, as the Watchtower wants to call him. Gen 21:33 The name of the LORD, the Everlasting God.” Ps 90:2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.” It means continual existence, an eternal being, without beginning or end. So the Watchtower has intentionally changed the meaning to uphold their denial of what the Bible teaches about Jesus The Father sent the Son, not an angel from heaven. Prov 30:4 Who has ascended into heaven, or descended? Who has gathered the wind in His fists? Who has bound the waters in a garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His name, and what is His Son's name, if you know? Is the Sons name Jesus or Michael? John 3:13: “No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven.” Did Michael come down from heaven or the Son as the Bible unanimously teaches. I Jn 4:14-15 “And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son as Savior of the world. Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.” Is a Jehovah Witness willing to confess Jesus is Michael the arch-angel? “The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand.” (John 3:35) According to the Jehovah witnesses this would mean all authority is by an angel not God (the same way they believe all creation was by Michael the angel) “for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.” (John 17:24). Did God love Michael before anything was made? “For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us “ (2 Corinthians 1:19). Were they preaching to the people about an angel named Michael? Where the evidence of this hidden doctrine? Paul wrote “I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20). Would a Jehovah Witness be willing to say they live by faith in Michael the angel? :...but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.” (John 20:31). The Bible is making the point that we believe this man is the Son of God Where are we to believe Michael is the Son of God. Jesus asked his disciples 'Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?'“ (Matthew 16:13). None of them said Michael, Jesus did not say he is Michael or an angel- why? Because Peter confessed him as the living one, the Son of God who came from heaven. They have invented another Jesus according to their own theology because they do not have faith in the word of God as it is written but have loyalty to their Watchtower Bible and Tract society interpretation, what they say it means. The Watchtower goes on to write “ He is called “the firstborn of all creation,” for he was God's first creation. (Colossians 1:15) There is something else that makes this Son special. He is the “only-begotten Son.” (John 3:16) This means that Jesus is the only one directly created by God. Jesus is also the only one whom God used when He created all other things. (Colossians 1:16) “the Son was created. Obviously, then, he had a beginning, whereas Jehovah God has no beginning or end. (Psalm 90:2) even considered trying to be equal to his Father. “Jehovah is called a Father because he is the Creator. (Isaiah 64:8) Since Jesus was created by God, he is called God's Son. For similar reasons, other spirit creatures and even the man Adam are called sons of God.—Job 1:6; Luke 3:38.” “Job 1:6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came among them.” Again they have distorted the Bible. They previously said, God only used Jesus “when He created all other things.” “Michael the Archangel is no other than the only begotten son of God, now Jesus Christ. That Jehovah directly created only one thing, Michael the arch angel and that Michael created all other things”. (United in worship p.29) So if Jesus created all (other) things then he is the creator of far more than the Father, so why is the Father considered God or the creator? They are using Col.1:16 which states both the invisible things and visible things, which is everything (except for himself which they claim the Father created). They inserted the word “Other” which is not found in any Other Greek text. It is juxtaposed in between for by him all “other” things were created… when it actually says he is before all things and by means of him all things were made to exist, not all “other” things. Col 1:18 if we read further it defines the word firstborn to mean the firstborn from the dead, it means he is the first man resurrected – never to die again just as it says in Rev 1:5 and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead” and “I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen” (Rev 1:18) The Bible says of God: Isa 45:12 I have made the earth, and created man on it. I-- My hands-- stretched out the heavens, and all their host I have commanded. Jn.1: 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.” In Heb.1:10 The Father speaking of the Son, “And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning has laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of your hands. So then the Father created only one angel called Michael and Michael created all the angels and man and everything that exists. The Watchtower teaches that Jehovah, the Father only created only one thing directly, the Logos, or Jesus. It was Jesus according to the Watchtower who created “all other things” (Colossians 1:16 NWT; Insight, Vol. 1, p. 527).The Bible completely disagrees with them. Isa.44:24 “I am the Lord who makes all things…”Isa.45:11”I have made the earth and created man on it I my hands have stretched out the heavens.”Isa.45:18 “For thus says the Lord who created the heavens, who is God, who formed the earth and made it.” (see also Isa.40:28, 42:5) “But you may wonder, 'How was it possible for a spirit creature to be born as a human.” (p.41- 42 “What Does the Bible Really Teach” 2005 Watchtower Bible and Tract Society) The Bible does not say Michael with us, but His name will be called Immanuel (with us is God) a fulfillment of Isa.7:14. Matt 1:21 “And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins” The name Jesus means God is salvation or to a Jehovah Witness Jehovah is salvation. Not “Michael is salvation.” God became man to be our savior by a sacrifice. Who is the savoir- NOT Michael -- but the Son whose name is Jesus. 1 Tim 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh” “It pleased the Father that in Him should dwell all the fullness”(Col.1:19). (Greek- pleroma). Meaning, the totality of the Divine powers and attributes are filled up in Jesus- omnipotence, omniscience, omnipresence. Col.2:9 “For in him dwells (lives) the fullness of the Godhead bodily” (bodily form). Jesus is called our Savior. “The Lord Jesus Christ our Savior”. (Titus 1:4,
2:10, 3:6; 2 Tim.1:10) In Titus 2:13 Jesus is called our great God and Savior.
Peter writes in 1 Pt.1:1 to those who have obtained like precious faith with
us by the righteousness of our God and savior Jesus Christ.” |
