This is one of those Scriptures that need’s to be read in context to find the actual meaning.

Gen. 3:22 Then the LORD God said, "Behold, the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil.”

At the time only God knew the difference of what is good and what is evil.

Previously God instructed Adam, “And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, "Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die" (Gen. 2:16-17)

Man was already created in God’s image, in that he had finite characteristics that God had. He was personally being instructed and trained by God as the Lord would often appear in the garden each late afternoon (Gen.3:8-9) . When Eve ate from the tree and offered it to Adam and he ate, they both immediately had the effect of sin manifest in their lives; shame and guilt. They saw themselves as naked they felt guilty inside and their conscience changed – so they hid from God who showed up in the evening to fellowship with them.

God responds by their missing presence, “Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?" After this The Lord pronounces the punishment on each of them.

Gen 3:22: “Then the LORD God said, "Behold, the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil. And now, lest he put out his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever"--

Man became like God in knowing good and evil. Before this man was innocent not knowing what disobedience is, nor sin. He was righteous but it was not tested in any challenge. Man had become like God, in that he now knows what is righteous and unrighteous, Now he knew evil, because he personally experienced it. He knew what God knows – this is the very reason he warned man NOT to eat from the tree he called the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Only God knew what sin was, and did not intend for man to know evil by experience but by Him teaching him. By disobedience to God’s command they attained to have a personal knowledge of good and evil. This brought a flaw in their moral nature and would now affect their spiritual development to maturity, it also would affect their offspring, being passed on to all mankind afterwards. Everyone born would now have his same spiritual defect; it would result in a separation from their maker, God. Our life is not rooted in our physical nature; but from our spiritual nature that affects our physical life.

God will eventually restore man to what he intended in Genesis by the resurrection. Where we will be put in an incorruptible body that will be eternal. Adam and Eves expulsion from the garden was to insure a redemption for all by giving man the choice to accept the remedy found in Jesus Christ.
