*What is the evidence of the baptism of the Spirit and what does it do? Jesus spoke- Luke 24:49
Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city
of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high Acts 1:5 for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now." Acts 1:8 "But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." The power was for them to witness the truth to the Jews and the Gentiles. The word witnesses is also martyrs, they were given the grace to speak to those hostile to them and even be able to die for Christ if necessary ( all but one apostle died in their mission work) Acts 4:13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus. Acts 4:29 "Now, Lord, look on their threats, and grant to Your servants that with all boldness they may speak Your word V. 31 And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness. 1 Cor.12:13 tells us For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body-- whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free-- and have all been made to drink into one Spirit We are baptized by the Spirit into the body and the Spirit is put in the believer at the event of faith in the gospel- when they believe- it is a salvation experience. What we as believers need is subsequent fillings of the Spirit to walk in Him daily. |
