A venture into word faith teaching? Early on in my Christian walk the late 80’s I had learned from Kay founder of Precept Ministries. Her Bible induction method was one of many good ways to interpret Scripture. In 1992, Arthur published (through Harvest House) The International Inductive Study Bible which helped many tokeep studying the word and stay on target, rightly handling the word of God. She is the author of the Precept Upon Precept, an inductive Bible study program and numerous books such as Lord, Heal My Hurts, that offered some good Biblical teaching on healing. With this all said, along the way there has also been acceptance of some unbiblical teachings and mistakes in associations. Her endorsing Neil Anderson’s books The Bondage Breaker and Victory Over the Darkness which promoted an unbiblical view of spiritual warfare for Christians and the world. When A.D. 2000 began its ecumenical evangelization, Jay Gary and Robert Muller were participating, Kay Arthur also became one of the participants. Kay Arthur was one of the featured speakers at the women’s conference THRIVE: Becoming a Woman of Influence, where one of the other speakers was Joyce Meyer (2002). Or with Leonard Sweet who teaches a hybrid Christianity with the new age movement. http://apprising.org/2012/11/16/about-kay-arthur-of-precept-ministries-international/ Kay has had partnered with teachers such as Beth Moore and Priscilla Shirer in LifeWay’s Deeper Still women’s conferences (June 2011). Her association with Steve Furtick another false teacher http://apprising.org/2012/11/15/transform-student-ministries-of-kay-arthurs-precept-ministries-turns-to-steven-furtick-for-inspiration/ I’m not sure if all this comes from being influenced by the doctrine or by her friendships made with people that hold to the doctrine, but now I see she has accepted word faith teaching. “When I shook my fist at the face of God,… little did I realize that when I said the hell with you God, that that’s exactly what Jesus Christ did. That Jesus Christ took my hell, he took the wages of my sin, he took the penalty of my sin, and Jesus knew no sin was going to be made sin for me, he was going to be made an immoral woman for me, he was made a homosexual, he was made a lesbian he was made a thief, he was made, He who knew no sin was made to be sin for us so that we might have his righteousness. So when I said the hell to you God, I didn’t even know that before the foundation of the world according to Ephesians chapter 1 vs.3,4,5 that God had said to heaven with you Kay, and that God had a plan” Approx. 7:00, you-tube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4mll_Z1TPM&feature=youtu.be You may as well add that Jesus was made a murderer to round it all off. I would think that Kay knows better on the difference of being the sin bearer, carrying our sin away and actually becoming the sin as she describes here. Jesus becoming specific sins: where and when did this happen? On the cross? Then he could not be our sin bearer, for only one without sin can carry our sins away. Was it in hell? Than we have the word faith teaching in a nutshell. To hear this from Mrs. Arthur it is very disappointing. This does not just encroach into the category of word faith philosophy but is this is some of the worst elements of word faith teaching, to say Jesus actually became sin by her descriptions. Her intentions may be to reach out to others but to teach Jesus became every sin of man is wrong. I do not consider Kay Arthur as being in the false teacher category but hearing her adopt this kind of word faith teaching does not enhance ones bible teaching, it takes away from it. It damages your reputation as a Bible teacher. I hope she seriously rethinks her position on this.
