p.3 Was Jesus a Jew, an Israelite, or a Hebrew?

Jews are from Jacob, who name was changed to Israel. They who consist of 12 tribes; the kingly line being through Judah. The tribe of Judah is one of 12 tribes, Jesus is from the tribe of Judah which makes Jesus the same as all his brethren in the 12 tribes. So the arguments against the word ‘Jew’ fall apart when looked through the Scripture biblically.

The Scriptures define the meanings of the words. The Bible is where we find the proof of who Jesus is.

Does the Scripture tell us Jesus is a Jew?

Mr. Nemos teaches, “Jews today were NOT of the tribe of Judah? Nor even of Benjamin or Levi? Then how could Jesus possibly be a Jew? The answer is easy, Jesus is not a Jew because the people known as Jews today are not of Judah. The Bible itself tells us this.” ( Mike Adams interview with Dustin Nemos Nov.2, 2024)

Today’s Jews are not of Judah? None of them? The problem with the premise of his statement, they never were exclusively of the tribe of Judah, there are 12 tribes of Israel, not one. And as we l see Mordecai, a Benjamite was called a Jew in the book of Esther.

Nemos says, “Jesus was not a Jew, he was a Judahite of the region of Judea.” Judahite is a family bloodline.”

What Nemos is doing is narrowing the meaning and eliminating the application on purpose to promote an agenda against the people of God’s first covenant.

Scripture explains in the New Testament in Matt 2:6 'But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah” Luke 1:39 there is a “ city of Judah.” Judah can have a geographical location as well as a tribe. Jesus is from the Tribe of Judah (Heb.7:14 He is called “ the Lion of the tribe of Judah (Rev.5:5) which is one of 12 tribes of the children of Israel (Rev. 7:4, We find all 12 exist in the future as they did in the past).

Are Jews the brethren of Jesus?

From the Bible John 1:11 “He(Jesus)came to His own, and His own did not receive Him.’ This means if one denies these people are actually Hebrews, Israelites, his brethren, who are called Jews, then the Bible lied, then God is a liar. This is what they want you to believe. When Satan is the liar, the father of lies.

We read that Jesus healed all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people, he taught the people and they were astonished at His teaching,

Matt. 13:57 Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house. " That country and house would be Israel.

John 13:1 “ having loved His own who were in the world”

Peter writes in Acts 10:34-39 “And we are witnesses of all things which He did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem.”something he could not do if he was not one of them.

Mark 8:31 “rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes” Rejected not by all the Jews, but certain ones.

Isaiah prophecies 53:3, He “is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. Speaking as one of his brethren And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.”

Luke 17:25-26 “he was rejected by this generation.” Meaning those he came live among.

Matt 21:42 Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the Scriptures: 'The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone.’ The builders are those of Israel who had the oracles of God.

Matt 28:10 Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid. Go and tell My brethren to go to Galilee, and there they will see Me." John 20:17 “go to My brethren,”Jesus certainly consider the people he was among as being one of them, and they did as well.

Whatever ethnicity the people were, he was also. There is no getting around the Scripture's descriptions, unless one does not accept the Word of God as the truth.

His lineage must be come from King David (Isa. 11:1). Isa.11:1-5 prophesies: “There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots.” The Branch indicates the lineage of Jesus, coming from Jesse, King David’s Father. Ps.132:11 the fruit of David's body will be set upon the throne (Romans 1:3 Messiah is the seed of David). Psalms 89:3-4 “I have made a covenant with My chosen, I have sworn to My servant David: Your seed I will establish forever”(Isa.9:6). As God had promised to David in 2 Samuel 7:12 “I will set up your seed after you, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom” (1 Chron. 17:11-12.)

Both Mary and Joseph are descendants of King David. On his mother's side, Jesus was a descendant of David by blood, on Joseph his stepfathers side, by adoption. Luke 2:4-5 “ Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David , to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child.”

One cannot be Israel's king without being from the brethren

Jeremiah writes in 23:5-6: “ I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness; a King…”

Jesus is called “the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David” (Rv.5:5-8). Jesus himself says, “ I am the Root and the Offspring of David ” (Rv. 22:16-17).

He Jesus, is a descendant of, “theson of David, the son of Abraham” (Matthew 1:1) giving Jesus the legal right to ascend to the Jewish throne proving Jesus was a Jew by descent.

“and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: and he shall reign over the house of Jacob forever” (Lk.1:31-33). The house of Jacob are the Jews.

Matt 2:7 “in the land of Judah,…among the rulers of Judah.” Fulfilling Micah 5:2 “For out of you shall come a Ruler Who will shepherd My people Israel.'"

Jesus has title of the son of David which points to his kingship, the kingship of the

Jews, which are his brethren. Again, what they are he is also.

Israel never chose for herself a non-Jewish king, the foreign Herodian kings were forced upon Israel by Rome. God told the Jews to choose a king “from among your own brothers,” not a “foreigner” (Deut. 17:15).

Deut. 18:15 “The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brethren.” V.18-19 “I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him.”

John 1:45 Philip found Nathanael and said to him, "We have found Him of whom Moses in the law, and also the prophets, wrote --Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph .”

V.47 “Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him, and said of him, "Behold, an Israelite indeed”This is only time this word is used by Jesus.

We read of those who identified Jesus as the prophet Moses spoke of. John 6:14 Then those men, when they had seen the sign that Jesus did, said, ‘This is truly the Prophet who is to come into the world.”’ (John 7:40) “Therefore many from the crowd, when they heard this saying, said, “Truly this is the Prophet.”The prophet is to be one from among their brethren.

His birth

“God sent forth his Son, born of a woman, born under the law,(Meaning she is an Israelite, a Jew)that he might redeem them that were under the law , that we might receive the adoption of sons(Gal. 4:4-5). He offered salvation to his people.

Matt 2:1-2 The wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, "Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? Herod the king hears of this, troubled, he gathers all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born .”

Herod is an Edomite, Christ is not, He is a Jew. This is why Herod kills all the Jewish children in the area that are 2 years and under, to prevent his future kingship from being threatened.

Matt. 1:21the angel says to Mary “you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.” His people.

Luke 1:67-69 Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying: "Blessed is the Lord God of Israel, For He has visited and redeemed His people , And has raised up a horn of salvation for us In the house of His servant David.” V.77 “ To give knowledge of salvation to His people By the remission of their sins

Isaiah 53:5 “He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities” V.8 He was cut off from the land of the living; For the transgressions of My people He was stricken.”

Speaking of David Acts 13:23 “From this man's seed, according to the promise, God raised up for Israel a Savior—Jesus.”The Jews are Israel.

Luke 2:46-47 His mother and Joseph after 3 days noticed he was missing came back to Jerusalem and found “Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions. And all who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers.” No one but a Jew (Hebrew/ Israelite) was legally allowed in the temple.

Luke 4:16-18 Jesus goes into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, He is handed the book of the prophet Isaiah, opens the book, and reads what pertains to him from the Hebrew Scripture,

"The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me”No non-Jew would be allowed to read in the synagogue.

Jesus was a rabbi (John 1:38; 6:25), he identified with the religion of Judaism which was the original religion of the Jews from Moses and he rejected the pharisaical interpretation of the religion of his day, who added unbiblical laws (called the tradition of the elders).

John 7:15-16 and the Jews marveled, saying, "How does this Man know letters, having never studied?" Meaning he did not study under their rabbi’s, the Father taught him directly.

Matt 21:12-13 “Jesus went into the temple of God and drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. And He said to them, "It is written, 'My house shall be called a house of prayer,' but you have made it a 'den of thieves.”

Jesus has certainly identified himself with the people he lived among. Calling the Temple of there's ‘his house. ’The Temple that was built in Jerusalem he had personal ownership of, don’t tell me he was not a Jew. He went to the temple often, even during a feast day, (Jn.7:14) (Lk.19:47; Mk.11:11; Lk.20:1, 21:37,38, John 18:20). John 2:13-14 “ Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.” Several times it mentions Jesus going to the Jew's feasts. John 5:1 “there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.”John 7:14 “about the middle of the feast Jesus went up into the temple and taught.”He could not attend the Passover or any feast at the temple if he was not brethren. Nor could he partake of the Passover "Where do You want us to prepare for You to eat the Passover”(Matt 26:17.)

Only Jews went into the temple, Gentiles were allowed as far as the courtyard. John 18:19-21 “The high priest then asks Jesus about His disciples and His doctrine. Jesus answered him, "…I always taught in synagogues and in the temple, where the Jews always meet.” Something he could not do unless… He too is a Jew.

There is nothing in Scripture that says the Jews are not Israelites, Hebrews. One would think if all Jews were actually Edomites as these certain men argue, the Bible would not just mention it but explain it, but it does neither. According to Nemos, the word of God is tampered with everywhere, and you can only ‘trust him’ on teaching what he does not know.

John 4:9: Jesus meetsthe Samaritan woman at Jacobs well, she says to Him, "How is it that You, being a Jew, ask me for a drink since I am a Samaritan woman?" For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans. In this passage, a Gentile identified Jesus as a Jew. He did not deny it; and she says in v.20-22 “ Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship." Jesus said to her, "Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews.”

What a thing to say if he is not a Jew, for he is salvation. Notice he says ‘we’ know what we worship. He is the one to bring salvation, but he is not a Jew? Do you see how absurd this is?

Jesus could not enter a Pharisee’s house unless he was what they were (Jewish) Luke 11:37 “a certain Pharisee asked Him to dine with him”(also Lk.7:39) .

John 3:1-2 “ A Pharisee named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, "Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.”

None of his brethren, no Jew at that time denied he was one of them and he did not deny he was a Jew either.

Before Pilate, Mark 15:2 Pilate asked Him, "Are You the King of the Jews?" And (Jesus) He answered and said to him, "It is as you say." ( Matt 27:11) A non Jew could not be their king? Jesus claims to be their king. This one scripture alone settles their arguments.

Pilate answered (Jesus), "I am not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests delivered You to me; what have You done?" (John 18:35). Here again a Gentile identifies Jesus' nation as Jews , and He does not deny it. Is Pilate calling Jesus an Edomite by saying he is a Jew? Of course not. Edomites were not in charge of the religious duties or the temple.

What does this mean? Jesus is not a Jew, or that he is?Whenever these people are called Jews in the Bible he is called that also.

Pilate asks the people, saying, "Do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?" (Mark 15:9-10, 12, 18). Mark 15:12 at the Trial Pilate asked the people, “What then do you want me to do with Him whom you call the King of the Jews?” “We have a law, and according to our law He ought to die, because He made Himself the Son of God” (John 19:7.) The Jews could only ask Pilate this if Jesus was one of their own.

John 19:14-16 Now it was the Preparation Day of the Passover, and about the sixth hour. And he said to the Jews, "Behold your King!" But they cried out, "Away with Him, away with Him! Crucify Him!" Pilate said to them, "Shall I crucify your King?" The chief priests answered, "We have no king but Caesar!"

Luke 23:36-38 The soldiers also mocked Him… saying, "If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself." And an inscription also was written over Him in letters of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew: THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.” Is the Bible wrong or right?

John 19:21-22 “the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, "Do not write, 'The King of the Jews,' but, 'He said, "I am the King of the Jews ." "Pilate answered, "What I have written, I have written."What God has written in is his Word is the truth.

Joseph was from Arimathea, a city of the Jews Lk23:51, he was a prominent council member Mark 15:43; John 19:40-41 “ they took the body of Jesus, and bound it in strips of linen with the spices, as the custom of the Jews is to bury.” Would they bury someone that is not their brethren as their brethren? Matt. 27:60 “Jesus was laid in his new tomb which he had hewn out of the rock” (Mark 15:46.) Joseph would not have buried him in his tomb if he was not brethren.

One would think these Scriptures are enough confirmation of the people Jesus was among were Jews, but it seems any proof, even internal evidence is never enough for the naysayers. As Paul said of the gospel is for the Jew first (Rom. 1:16)

John 18:14 “ Caiaphas who advised the Jews that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.” Caiaphas was not an Edomite like Herod, Edomites did not have control of the priesthood or the temple. He was the high priest of the Jews during the reign of Tiberius Caesar.

John 11:49-52 being high priest that year, said to them, " You know nothing at all, nor do you consider that it is expedient for us that one man should die for the people, and not that the whole nation should perish." Now this he did not say on his own authority; but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation , and not for that nation only, but also that He would gather together in one the children of God who were scattered abroad.”

If Jesus is not a Jew, you have a different Jesus than the Bible.
