A Virgin shall conceive

It was necessary that if God would enter the world, He would like anyone else. In this way He could be a genuine human. If he was born of both a human father and mother there could have been no authentic claim to be deity. On the other hand if he had come with no relation to human parentage then He could not claim to be an authentic human. The perfect solution worked out from before the foundation of the world and prophesied in Gen.3:15 “the seed of the woman” a virgin conception.

Isa.7:14: “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call His name, (Immanuel) God with us.” Here we find the Son is God not just a human. Luke 1:35 He will be called “the Son of God.”  Son = God meaning: As the Son of God He would have the same nature as His Father.

This was the miraculous conception without a man, having no human Father. This would be a sign of a supernatural means of bringing Immanuel into the world. Isa.9:6 tells us “a child would be born ,” this refers to his birth and His humanity he would unite with. It also says, “a son will be given”; this refers to His nature as the Son in his pre-existence. He is sent from heaven as the Son and comes by the way of all humanity, being born through a woman. (Jn. 3:16, 6:39, 12:49)

Did Jesus need the virgin birth to be sinless? No, he was already sinless as the Son of God before his birth. It was necessary to preserve his humanity from the pollution of sin. “For he made Him who had no sin to be sin for us.” (2 Cor.5:21)  Heb.4:15 tells us, “He was at all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.” His temptation was to prove who He really was.

His sinlessness was not dependent on Mary, she didn’t need to be preserved from sin. The doctrine of original sin involves inheriting the character of the parent, it is by the genes that this is inherited. Neither, Adam nor Eve originally possessed the nature they ended transmitting to all their descendants, until after the fall. Biblically the sin nature is passed on through the man. This is why it was not passed on to Jesus: He had no human Father to be part of His conception. It is in Adam the bible states we all sinned, not Eve. Rom.5:12 tells us sin entered the world through one man and that everyone is given a built in death warrant because of their sin nature that has been  passed on. The poison of sin and death enters through the male seed into the seed of the woman by the fusion of the two. Mankind’s mortality was procured by Adam by his disobedience, and it is inherited to all of us. This continues from generation to generation, as long as the seed (egg) of the woman is fertilized by the seed of the man. The sin nature resides within the heart of man, the spiritual nature of our being, in our very soul. The human body is not sinful in itself, but can be used for sin, as its base nature dictates what is already in ones heart, one can only act upon their nature. The Bible teaches that sin is present at conception, as David the Psalmist stated, “in sin did my mother conceive me”, also in Job 14:4; “no one can make something clean out of something unclean.” This is why God gives man a new nature to rule over his sin nature.

In Luke 1:35: “And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Spirit shall come upon you, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow you: therefore also that Holy one which is to be born will be called the Son of God.” So Jesus was placed into the womb of Mary without the normal means of conception. The virgin birth became the means to protect the sinless Son of God. When the time had fully come, (Gal. 4:4) the Son was to by-pass the male seed by virgin conception the Father initiated the preparation of that special body into which his Son was to enter. (Heb.10:5) In Mt.1:20 the angel tells Joseph “that which conceived is of  the Holy Spirit.” The egg was generated to life as God the Son entered the egg under the superintending ministry of the Holy Spirit. Christ is the only person born of a woman, whose human nature did not come by the ordinary way of generation but instead by the energy of the Holy Spirit.

It is the male seed where the sin nature is passed on. By having the virgin birth, this bypassed the natural process to insure no sin nature was transferred to the female chromosome. “Concerning the supernatural conception of Jesus in the womb of Mary. The female ovum itself has no blood, neither the male sperm; but it is when these come together in the fallopian tube that conception takes place, blood is made and a new life begins…the blood type is determined at the moment of conception and is there after protected by the placenta from any flow of the mothers blood into the fetus. The Bible is explicit that the Holy Spirit was the divine agent who caused Jesus conception in the womb of Mary. This therefore, was not a normal conception, but a supernatural act of God, planting the life of His already existent Son right in the womb of Mary, with no normal conception of a male sperm with the female ovum of Mary. As blood type of the Son of God was a separate and precious type” (unlike any other authors insert). Because of this method of conception “it is inconceivable that Mary could have supplied any of her Adamic blood for the spotless lamb of God” (William Standish Reed of the Christian medical foundation of Tampa Florida).

There is no indication that God fertilized the egg of Mary through either the Father or Holy Spirits work. She conceived, without human or divine fertilization, so there was no sperm to touch the egg, Jesus who is the author of life participated in a biological miracle with no fertilization. The Holy Spirit who is God protected his sinlessness as God the Son entered the womb and gave life to the egg of Mary. Taking upon himself a human nature in addition to His divine nature he already had. (Clothed himself in humanity Phil. 2:5-8)

There was no normal means of personhood transmitted from Mary in the virgin birth. He who became flesh is described as the Source of all life. What was given was a physical body, but not the Spirit. Because the Spirit of man is sinful it is the source of our passing on our sins from generation to generation. It was Christ the Son of God who was the inner man that animated the body to live.

One needs to believe in the Biblical account of the virgin birth to be a Christian. When one changes this they lose the miracle of God using fallen humanity to accomplish his decrees. They also can lose the Son of God who clothed himself in humanity. In Acts 20:28 it states “God purchased the Church with his own blood.” With his own blood (dia tou haimatos tou idiou) Whose blood? Through the agency of (dia) His own blood. The blood from Emmanuel’s veins, is the very reason there had to be a virgin birth. It’s not that God has any blood, but that the life that was in the Son was pure, sinless, untainted from the human condition of sin. To actively and consciously refuse the facts of the means of the Son of Gods birth, is to deny  the uniqueness of the Only Son of God..
