Finding The Truth in the age of lies No one likes being lied to, whether it’s personal, in business or by the government. We are in the time of pervasive lying, when a lie is told so easily and boldly and the truth is told so weakly and inefficiently. It is unusual for someone to listen and follow one that they know is lying than one who speaks the truth. Truth is Gods nature just as love is. This is why he tell us to be honest, to tell the truth. Jesus came as the truth. He is the way the truth and the life, there is no way or life without the truth. There are those who want to change the truth, altering it makes it into what is false, a lie. Truth needs to be preserved, it needs to proclaimed against what is false to counter its influence. Lies came the Devil, Jesus says he was a liar from the beginning. I Jn. 2:21 states “no lie is of the truth.” Truth is mentioned over 200 times throughout the Scripture (old and New Testament) Throughout the Scripture God is called The “God of truth” (Deut .32:4; Ps.31:5; Isa.65:16 Truth is one of the most important elements of Gods nature, and the most talked about matters from God, especially for man to keep. This is because man was led astray in the beginning by a lie, something God does not teach. The one who is called ‘the truth’ is spoken of in John 1:14 the people saw and heard “ the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth ” (he later explains in Jn.17 he had this glory when He was with the Father before the creation) We a read of John the baptizer who “came as a witness to the truth” (John 5:33), it is he who introduced Jesus to Israel at his baptism. John uses these two words to present the person of the Gospel in contrast with the law associated with Moses. John 1:17-18 “ For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” The word charis (grace), which Paul uses continually, does not occur in John's Gospel except in John 1:14,16-17, aleetheia (NT:222) (truth) is one of the keywords in the Fourth Gospel and in 1 John, it occurs 25 times in the Gospel and 20 in the John’s Epistles, and seven times in the Synoptics and not at all in Revelation whom John wrote. John is concerned with the truth as shown throughout his gospel. John 8:32 “ And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." Jesus says he is the Truth incarnate. Probably the most famous statements next to Jn.3:16. John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John previously explains in John 3:20-21 “ But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God .” Only those who do not do what is truthful, who are not being honest with themselves and others will hide from the light that exposes the darkness that we all have. Jesus In his conversation with Pilate “ For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice." Pilate said to Him, "What is truth?" (John 18:37-38) Listening to him following what he said shows you are of, and on the side of the truth. John bore witness to the Truth and so did Jesus as he came as man to show us God. For He is the truth. That is THE question of the ages. A question that still must be answered by every person alive.
