“As in the days of Noah” Jesus used this phrase to refer to this time period before judgment to make some parallel statements of warning to how the world will be. Matt 24:37-39 But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.” Luke 17:27-30 They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed.” What we see is an overall theme Jesus is conveying, about judgment coming on the population that is not prepared, just as they were not prepared in Noah’s day. He is explaining that everything will continue as normal life, commerce, relationships, partying. They will ignore any warning(like Noah did for 120 years as he built the ark) then their everyday affairs will then suddenly be interrupted, destruction takes place (1 Thess.5). I would like to stress that Jesus is not making an exact equivalence, in that everything that occurred will happen again, an exact repeat. Nephilim will not return, anymore than one family of 8 on earth will be saved. He had promised never to be judged by water again, this next time is by fire, a whole lot worse. |
