p.2 The warnings throughout the Bible on changing God’s Word

Changing Gods Word can take place in various ways, by reinterpreting it to mean something completely different. It can take place from subtracting words or adding words, via new revelation. Or by using other books or religious practices not from the Word to reinterpret it.

Let us go through a condensed study of the how the Word is all important.

From the first books written to Israel, Deut. 4:2 You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take anything from it” (also Deuteronomy 12:32). We can explain it, but we do not change the meaning which changes its application.

From the first books of Moses to the last book, all are warned by the last apostle living that was chosen by Jesus “ I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God shall add to him the plagues which are written in this book.” (Rv. 22:18)

We are told “The entirety of Your word is truth” (Psalms 119: 160). To change Gods Word can make something that is true to be false. It then becomes useless, even detrimental in its purpose it was given.

Ps 138:2 “ For Your lovingkindness and Your truth; For You have magnified Your word above all Your name.” Gods Word is his love expressed in his instruction for us to live a life pleasing to him.

Prov. 30:5-6 “ Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. Do not add to His words, Lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar.”

His Word gives life. It revives us spiritually, it gives us hope and faith. We are sanctified by His Word to live in the world but not be part of the world’s ways. It is truth (Jn.17:17), that heals the human heart.

Deut. 8:3 “ that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the LORD. “ Jesus quoted this back to the Devil who used the Word incorrectly to challenge him as the Son of God and make him disobey the father, Jesus in Luke 4:4 cited back to him “It is written.”

Jesus taught the people in Mark 8:15 “Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod." Leaven which is a symbol of sin is applied to their teachings that removed the people from ‘the Word’ to their word, called ‘traditions of the elders.’ These were mans added rules to the commands of God, they added near 100 commands to each of the commands from Moses making the 613 commands into over 61,000 rules and regulations. And they made 10 times the normal additions to the Sabbath.

Ps. 119:89 “Forever, O LORD, Your word is settled in heaven.”

John 6:32-33 “ My Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world." V:35 " I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst .” V.48 I am the bread of life) Jesus is the Word made flesh according to John.

Understand Luke 11:3, Jesus is praying “ Give us day by day our daily bread.” Which refers to his Word that gives us life. Today is as asking to give us Jesus who is our life.

Jer.15:16 Jeremiah said as he ate the word it was the joy and rejoicing of my heart” (Rv. 10:10: John “took the little book out of the angel's hand and ate it. it was as sweet as honey in my mouth. But when I had eaten it, my stomach became bitter.”

Once digested it was not sweet, for what he had to speak to the nations in prophecy was harsh. The Word which is truth can judge others and ourselves.

Jer. 23:29 " Is not My word like a fire?" says the LORD, "And like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?”

Heb. 4:12 “ For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

1 Cor. 4:6 “ Now these things, brethren, I have figuratively applied to myself and Apollos for your sakes, that in us you might learn not to exceed what is written .”

To go learn beyond what the Scripture teaches can shipwreck ones faith and others. This what the Gnostics and mystics have taught. Instead of by one reading of new laws, they taught that it came by experience and new revelation, gnosis.

2 Jn. 1:9 “ Anyone who goes too far and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God.” Those teachings are what is written. That is what we are to understand and put into practice. As all of Psalm 119 is written on the Word, v.169 “ Give me understanding according to Your word.”

It is when we understand it we can apply it and have it change our life. It is those who understand that Jesus said would be fruitful

Jesus would say, He who has ears to hear, let him hear!" Meaning to receive the seed, understand the Word.

Matt 13:23 but he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it”

Luke 24:45-46 “ And He opened their understanding , that they might comprehend the Scriptures. Then He said to them, "Thus it is written,…” Jesus always went to the same place, the Word. May He open up our understanding of the Scripture as he did with them.
