p. 2Traditions as equal to the Word in the Roman church

The bible but not for all

The Roman church teaches of themselves, if not for the catholic church that collected the letters we would have no bible in history. The fact is, they teach that the Bible is not a sufficient rule of faith, it needs traditions they invented over and over hundreds of years afterward.

It was the Roman church that for centuries kept the bible out of the hands of the people to be read, by insisting Latin is the holy language. and they removed from the living those who wanted to distribute God’s word to all, so that’s the Son can set them free.

The tradition of the early church was copying and distributing the Bible (first written in the known language of Greek, before the last book of the new covenant was written.

From the Old Testament times,Moses ordained public readings of the Torah, according to the Bible telling the people, the families to teach their children the Word.(Deut.6) which means The Bible was in everyone’s hands to read.

The Jewish/ Roman historian and priest Flavius Josephus: "... every week men should desert their other occupations and assemble to listen to the Torah and to obtain a thorough and accurate knowledge." This is what was practice later in synagogue services. The Old Testament (Torah) is read over a year in sequence, covering the entire Bible . In fact, as a practicing Jew, Jesus read the weekly parsha (section of the Torah) at the Sabbath services that he regularly attended: "And he went to Nazareth where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day and stood up for to read" (Luke 4:16).

What the Lord did is appoint the Levites to be separate as teachers to the people. In the same way he gave Pastors, teachers to the church, but expected the people to individually read the Scripture. We see Jesus’ example in Luke 4:16-17“So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read. And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah.”The synagogues were in each city throughout the land.

Ps. 40:7, “ Then I said, “Behold, I come; in the scroll of the book it is written of me.”

In fact he recited the old Testament to show what it meant, who it was about.

In Prov.30:5 “ Every word of God is pure”, not so for tradition. Jesus said, “You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you”(Jn.15:3), it is the same when we read it.

The bible was to be read for all. Even the New Testament explains how the letters were copied and passed on, circulated by city churches, not by Rome. (Col. 4:17) “Now when this epistle is read among you, see that it is read also in the church of the Laodiceans, and that you likewise read the epistle from Laodicea.”

Paul writes in 1 Tim. 4:13 “ Till I come, give attention to reading ,to exhortation, to doctrine”

1 Thess. 5:27 “ I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read to all the holy brethren.”

And John in Rev 1:3, begins by stating, “ Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy”

John 14:15 "If you love Me, keep My commandments.

John 14:23"If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; V.24 “He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father's who sent Me.He means our heavenly father not anyone called father on earth.

Jesus constantly said to the people have you not read (over 20 times) There are many examples, Acts 13:15 “ And after the reading of the Law and the Prophets, V.27 the “ voices of the Prophets which are read every Sabbath”

Acts 8:27-28 Ethiopian eunuch was at the feast of Pentecost was returning Ethiopia. “And sitting in his chariot, he was reading Isaiah the prophet.” Showing they carried portions of the Word wherever they went.

As far as traditions. Which is admitted an unwritten tradition. Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for negating the final authority of the Word of God with their religious traditions (Matt. 15:3, 6 ).
which certainly is evidence for the concept of sola Scriptura: In addition to what has already been stated, consider the following: 2 Tim. 3:16-17 teaches that the Bible alone is inspired and capable of saving, edifying, and equipping believers. Although this verse refers only to the Old Testament (v. 15), other passages show that the New Testament Gospels (1 Tim. 5:18; Luke 10:7 ) and Epistles were considered "Scripture" too as they were written (2 Pet. 3:15-16).

God first gave governmental authority to uphold his law

Isa. 66:5 “Hear the word of the LORD, you who tremble at His word ” Ezra 10:3 “…tremble at the commandment of our God” (Deut. 5:29;13:4 ) To fear God is to respect His word above all else, all philosophies, religiosity, men in all governments. The word of God is living and powerful,… piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart ” (Heb. 4:12).

Scripture asks, How could a "young man" (not a bishop or pope) possibly "[take] heed" [i.e., understand and obey] God's Word and "cleanse his way" (Ps 119:9) at least 2,000 years before the Roman Catholic magisterium (which alone can interpret the Bible) came into existence? How could the Old Testament prophets, from Moses to Malachi, call upon Israel to "hear the word of God" when there was no church? It was the Pharisees that took control, some having good intentions, others did not. They were telling people what to obey and how to understand the Scriptures, the Roman church with its magisterium copied what Jesus hated. This did not make them friends with God., no matter what THEY Claimed ABOUT THEMSELVES.

There is no reference to another source of authority other than the written Word (Gk. graphe) which supports the doctrine of sola Scriptura. Jesus and the apostles constantly appealed to the Bible as the final court of appeal. The phrase "It is written," is repeated ninety times in the New Testament. The Bible warns "not to go beyond what is written" (1 Cor. 4:6; Deut. 4:2 ; Prov. 30:5-6 ; Rev. 22:18-19 ).
The Bible teaches that its words are a revelation from God (Gal. 1:12, 2:1-2 ; cf. 1 Cor. 2:11-13 ) as opposed to the words of men (tradition). Since canonical revelation ceased at the end of the first century, sola Scriptura can only mean the Bible.
The Bible is plainly understood without the aid of traditions to help us. This the Bible has all doctrines essential for salvation and living.

Romes control

Hieronimus Sophronius, known as Jerome (c. 342-420). Was a pioneer of monasticism “ Enormously erudite, Jerome early was attracted to the ascetic life, lived for a while as a hermit near Antioch, was more than once in Rome, for a time was secretary to a Pope, advocated self-denial, and excoriated the luxury of many of the clergy. Ultimately he made his home in a monastery which he built in Bethlehem. There he engaged in literary work and theological controversy and made a fresh translation of the Bible into Latin from the original tongues. That translation became the basis for the Vulgate, the standard translation of the Scriptures into the Latin vernacular” (Christianity Through the Ages by Kenneth Scott Latourette).

After this, no other language was allowed. Why Latin. It was the language of the Roman empire, they first crushed Judaism, made it an enemy. And then crushed Biblical Christianity and made those who held to it also an enemy. False accusatory statements were made that divided the Gentiles from Christianity’s roots. In380 AD, under Emperor Theodosius, Christianity became the state religion of the Roman Empire by the Edict of Thessalonica, a decree of the Emperor . Roman Catholics were the only people recognized as Christians. And the roman church became the visible head of the representative of the religion.

By the Middle Ages, anti-semitism seemed to reach its height as the Jewish people were collectively blamed for killing Jesus by the Roman Catholic Church. This is still a position being held by many today.

As the Roman church developed, they opposed the Word to be read by the common people.

"As it has been clearly shown by experience that, if the holy Bible in the vernacular is generally permitted without any distinction, more harm than utility is thereby caused ..." (Great Encyclical Letters of Leo XIII, pp. 412-413).

from the early sixth century to the sixteenth century, the Roman Church had control overm the Bible having it remain a closed book for the people until recently.

The Dark ages

For centuries it was a mortal sin to possess and read the Bible in one’s own native tongue. But the Bible being read was the Latin Vulgate which no one but trained priests of Rome could understand! The Church actually discouraged people from reading the Bible on their own. through the Middle Ages a prohibition forbidding translation of the Bible into native languages.

Pope Innocent the third 1200 A.D. Forbade Bible reading in the common language so people had to learn Latin before they could even pick up the book. The Council of Valencia decreed in the year 1229 A.D. … places Bible on The Index of Forbidden Books. The doctrine withholds “it is forbidden for laymen (common man) to read the Old and New Testaments. – We forbid them most severely to have the above books in the popular vernacular.” “The lords of the districts shall carefully seek out the heretics in dwellings, hovels, and forests, and even their underground retreats shall be entirely wiped out.” (Council Tolosanum, Pope Gregory IX, Anno. Chr. 1229).

Decree of the Council of Toulouse (1229 C.E.): "We prohibit also that the laity should be permitted to have the books of the Old or New Testament; but we most strictly forbid their having any translation of these books."

Ruling of the Council of Tarragona of 1234 C.E. : "No one may possess the books of the Old and New Testaments in the Romance language, and if anyone possesses them he must turn them over to the local bishop within eight days after promulgation of this decree, so that they may be burned..." (D. Lortsch, Histoire de la Bible en France, 1910, p.14. “Socialism, Communism, clandestine societies)

The council of Valencia (1229), the Council of Trent (1545) and Pope Clement XI (1713) all forbid letting people have the Bible in their own language and reading it for themselves. Likewise Clement the 11 th in 1720 Issued a Papal Bull against Bible reading. Leo the 12 th 1820 Condemned all religious freedom, Bible societies, and Bible translations.

Pope Pius the 7 th Encyclical letter of 1816 “It is evident, from experience, that the Holy Scriptures when circulated in the vulgar tongue, have produced more harm than benefit.”This vulgar tongue meant any other language but Latin other words it must be read in the roman language not the language it was written in. The problem is God had the scripture originally written in Hebrew and Greek. And translated in other languages for the people of the world to read to be saved by. The vulgar tongue should be better understood as Latin that opposed Gods word and by their adding their traditions for their roman church to be exclusive.

In modern history Pope Leo XIII (1893) did urge people to read the Bible, but it was only in the Latin which few could read. Now, in our the twentieth century the church has finally allowed the laity to have the Bible in their own language. But Roman Catholics are only allowed to read church-approved Bibles which have explanations of the texts underneath each page by their authorized theologians. They still need the magesterium to explain the text without them no one can understand the meanings, which ignores the teaching ministry of the holy Spirit for the individual.

What they did to those who tried to give the bible to the people to read for themselves. Which was always what THE Lord wanted.

Proclamations at the Ecumenical Council of Constance in 1415 C.E. : Oxford professor, and theologian John Wycliffe, was the first (1380 C.E.) to translate the New Testament into English to "...helpeth Christian men to study the Gospel in that tongue in which they know best Christ's sentence." For this "heresy" Wycliffe was posthumously condemned by Arundel, the archbishop of Canterbury. By the Council's decree "Wycliffe's bones were exhumed and publicly burned and the ashes were thrown into the Swift River."

William Tyndalewastried for heresy in 1522, three years before his translation of the New Testament was printed. In 1525 he produced a translation of the New Testament which condemn Roman Catholic doctrine. With notes that refuted and rebuked the Catholic Church, which in turn condemn his version of the Bible.

He was martyred for giving people the word so that they could personally read it. William Tyndale was burned at the stake for translating the Bible into English. According to Tyndale, the Church forbid owning or reading the Bible to control and restrict the teachings and to enhance their own power and importance.

Anglicans are among the many today who laud Tyndale as the “father of the English Bible.” But it was their own founder, King Henry VIII, who in 1531 declared that “the translation of the Scripture corrupted by William Tyndale should be utterly expelled, rejected, and put away out of the hands of the people.”

Tyndale’s Bible in 1543—after his break with Rome—King Henry decreed that “all manner of books of the Old and New Testament in English, being of the crafty, false, and untrue translation of Tyndale . . . shall be clearly and utterly abolished, extinguished, and forbidden to be kept or

He was arrested and tried (and sentenced to die) in the court of the Holy Roman Emperor in 1536. His translation of the Bible was heretical because it contained heretical ideas—not because the act of translation was heretical in and of itself. In fact, the Catholic Church would produce a translation of the Bible into English a few years later (The Douay-Reims version, whose New Testament was released in 1582 and the Old Testament was released in 1609).

The Catholic Church did not approve of Tyndale’s or Wycliff’s or others ,claiming they are corrupt translations, made with an agenda, and not accurate renderings of sacred Scripture. In other words no one an question what they say, because THEY alone HAVE Pope

The Catholic Encyclopedia says: " The attitude of the church toward the Bible societies is one of unmistakable opposition. Believing herself to be the divinely appointed custodian and interpreter of Holy Writ, she cannot without turning traitor to herself, approve the distributions of Scripture "without note or comment." The fundamental fallacy of private interpretation of the Scriptures is presupposed by the Bible societies.

In the Encyclical Ubi Primum of Leo XII, dated 5 May, 1824, and Pius IX's Encyclical Qui Pluribus, of 9 November, 1846, Pius VIII in 1829 and Gregory XVI in 1844, spoke to similar effect. The worst words spoken came from Leo XII and Pius IX. To quote the former:

"You are aware, venerable brothers, that a certain Bible society is impudently spreading throughout the world, which, despising the traditions of the holy Fathers and the decree of the Council of Trent, is endeavoring to translate, or rather to pervert the Scriptures into the vernacular of all nations.... Itis to be feared that by false interpretation, the gospel of Christ will become the gospel of men, or still worse, the gospel of the devil."

The Pope then urges the bishops to admonish their flocks that owing to human temerity, more harm than good may come from indiscriminate Bible reading.

Pius IX says, "These crafty Bible societies, which renew the ancient guile of heretics, cease not to thrust their Bibles upon all men, even the unlearned,—their Bibles, which have been translated against the laws of the church, and often contain false explanations of the text. Thus, the divine traditions, the teaching of the Fathers, and the authority of the Catholic Church are rejected, and every one in his own way interprets the word of the Lord, and distorts their meaning thereby falling into miserable errors." (The Catholic Encyclopedia, Vol. II, "Bible Societies," p. 545).

"Years of experience, and observation not superficial, have only strengthened our conviction that this course must be fearlessly pursued. We must deny to Protestantism any right to use the Bible, much more to interpret it." (Cardinal Wiseman, Catholic Doctrine on the use of the Bible, page 11.)

This was all done for control over the people by what type of Christianity they are allowed to practice. No different than the Pharisees who reinterpreted the law and words of moses and the prophets.
