Prophetic Eschatological errors
There is an end times teaching called preterism that claims Nero from the first century was the antichrist. First, Nero’s number does not add up to 666, his name was not used to buy or sell, nor did he force everyone to have this number or name on their right hand or forehead. He did not sit in the Temple declaring himself God, and, he did no miracles. Miracles of antichrist Rev 13:12-13 the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. He performs great signs, so that he even makes fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men. The scripture speaks the antichrist ruling over the whole world (not just the Roman Empire) and he is brought to an end by Christ’s second coming, not by dying of old age, or being killed by another man. None of this were to take place in the second temple built by Herod, but the third temple built when Israel returning their land, fulfilling the promise of their returning. The term "Preterist" is taken from the Hebrew language's "Preterite" tense, which is the "past perfect" sense, in terms of once for all completion or accomplishment. When applied to Bible Prophecy, the term has reference to events being fulfilled (completed, accomplished) in the past. The term "preterist" can be found in the Unabridged versions of Webster's Dictionary. In the 1913 edition, the definition of "preterist" is: "2. (Theol.) One who believes the prophecies of the Apocalypse to have been already fulfilled. Farrar. The deception of prophecy fulfilled is carried bypreterists. They believe that all or nearly all biblical prophecy events have been fulfilled; in the first century to be exact. The event usually associated with the fulfillment of Bible prophecy is the Roman-Jewish War of A.D.66-73, especially during the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD. This happens to be one of the worst and flawed eschatological views of all, but they have their scholars that convince the Biblical untrained. John in his book of Revelation did not have in mind those alive during the first century would be that generation who sees all these things. Nor could first-century Christians identify so far in the future who this individual is. He could not be revealed until the time of apostasy, for the falling away comes first, which culminates at the end, not the beginning. None of this could have taken place in 70 AD., or any other time in the past as anti-futurists state because Jesus has told us in Mt.24 that the gospel of the kingdom is to first go out to the ends of the earth. That many false prophets , false christ’s,would rise, the many things mentioned in Mt.24, wars, diseases increasing, None of this happened during the early church, the many fulfillments necessitate a future fulfillment that can only happen in the latter days not the early days of the church. |
