p.1 The Genesis Seed conflict in the Scripture

There had been a constant conflict in the world since Adam first sinned. The battle between the seed of Adam that carried sin, came through his fall, initially caused by Satan’s deception to Eve, and Adam’s willingness to join with her by purposeful disobedience.

The first prophecy in the Bible that talks about the coming Messiah, the Deliverer. this is called the protoevangelium, the first evangel or gospel promise, that foretells a victory over Satan by a man. After the fall in the garden, God addresses the serpent first in front of Adam and Eve , (before he addresses what the couple did). Gen. 3:15 “ And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed ; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”

God pronounces a special animosity (enmity) between Satan and womankind. The Hebrew noun ebah, “enmity” is related to the verb ayab , which means “to be hostile to.” At variance, with no reconciliation between the two.

The persistent animosity from Satan is toward the woman because the woman will have a participation in the redemptive role to bring forth the one who will overcome him. As Satan first attacked mankind through the woman, God will reverse it, defeating him by a woman’s seed.

We find the sentence upon the man and the woman is given after they hear the judgment upon the serpent. They were assured of a future victory over their enemy. God informed them of the changed circumstances to take place in their new diminished spiritual condition (v.16-19.) God previously told Adam if he eats of the tree he will definitely die. In Gen 3:19 the sentence is given “For dust you are, And to dust you shall return."After this man could live, reaching near a 1,000 years, and progressively less to one tenth that amount as the history of humanity unfolds.

The seed of the woman (Jesus) bruises his head, which is accomplished by Messiah’s death and resurrection (Heb. 2:14-18.) This could only be accomplished by the Son of God (both man and God). He destroys Satan’s power and authority over mankind for those willing to submit to his Lordship. He overcame death, the punishment for sin by His death and his resurrection. Salvation of man could only be brought about by the death of Christ; Jesus received only a temporary bruise because he rose from the dead thus reversing the punishment that came upon us all through Adam. Fulfilling God the Father’s mission, “For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. (1 John 3:8).

This event of death and then living again ends the conflict. This spiritual battle is ended to those of us who believe, we have been taken out of the kingdom of darkness through Christ who conquered death and sin (Rom.5:12). Our purpose in life now, through the power invested in us by indwelling Spirit is to subdue and conquer Satan’s influence of sin and rebellion in our individual lives, and serve God being under new ownership. We become as lights to the world, showing that Jesus is the light of the world.

Romans 16:20 tells us that we who believe have assurance of eventual future victory over death because, Paul says, “the God of peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly.”

The crushing is Not by us, but by Christ, who is our peace (Eph.2:14; 2 Cor.3:11). He has first done this spiritually, and soon it will be literally done when Satan is finally cast into the Lake of Fire (Rev. 20:10).

The sequence

Eve is called the “mother of all living,” Genesis 3:20, where sin is birthed to every human being through the mean to the woman. Satan came to deceive the woman, so God overcomes what was done through a woman by a supernatural means, a virgin conception. By the woman came the deception; as for the man Adam sinned by choice (Rom.5:12).

God ordained that by the seed of woman will come the victory. The Redeemer that is promised, comes by the seed of the woman, without any man. The woman's egg is fertilized by the seed of the man, this supernatural birth by-passed the normal process of conception. This is the virgin conceiving. Isa 7:14-15“The Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.” The sign is directly given by the Lord, of a conception and of a man born who will be God among humanity, specifically his people of the covenant.

The Messiah (who is God becoming man) will be conceived in the womb of a virgin without any man. This is the only time in all of history that this has taken place. The Biblical pattern for seed is strictly of the man, so this becomes unique. This Seed of the Woman describes a supernatural conception, something only God can do. The man who is the Messiah, has no human father, so His lineage can only be traced through the mother. From start to finish this became a unique, supernatural event. This woman’s seed has Jesus born without sin, that is the application of her seed and your seed. her seed was the lord Jesus, God who became man as one person, not many.

The genealogies throughout the Bible, including those in Genesis, always through the male line. However, with the Messiah, this is going to be different. The story is told in Lk.1:27 his ethnic origin will have to be reckoned after the woman, because His humanity comes only from her (as promised John 7:42, Christ comes from the seed of David and from the town of Bethlehem.)

The Hebrew word for “seed” here means “offspring.” There is one Seed who was promised to come, who overcomes sin - being called the Savior.

Satan did not understand the mystery of the prophecy in Gen. 3:15; he vaguely understood it, he knew that it meant the future holds some type of calamity happening to him. We see Him continually trying in history to stop the promised Seed that would crush his head.

1 John 3:12 says, “Cain who was of the wicked one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his works were evil and his brother's righteous.”The Lord Jesus, speaks of Abel in Matthew 23:35, as, righteous Abel. Heb. 11:4 “Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous.”In this, Abel is a type of righteousness, by his obedience to what God spoke on sacrifices. Cain slew Abel because of his disobedience in the sacrifice, the sin nature overtaking him (his works). Eve again gives birth to Seth, from whom the Messiah would come through and Satan began his attack to corrupt the whole earth.

Throughout history, Satan has tried to stop any deliverer from the Jewish people, such as Moses. He later tried to have the awaited deliverer, ‘the seed of the woman’ killed through Herod.

We go back to the Abrahamic Covenant found in Gn. 12, it explains that this man is to come out of Jewish humanity. Gen. 12:2-3 “I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed."

Repeated again, in Gen. 28:14 “in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

And after the victory accomplished to fulfill Gen.3:15 it is spoken of by Peter who declares to his people in Acts 3:25-26 'And in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed .' To you first, God, having raised up His Servant Jesus, sent Him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from your iniquities. "

From Abraham, Isaac and Jacob are 12 sons, 12 tribes of Israel. But he could come out of any tribe of Israel, but had to come from the Tribe of Judah. From the line of Seth (4:25), Noah’s son Shem (9:27), descendant of Abraham (12:3), of Isaac (21:12; Heb. 11:18"In Isaac your seed shall be called"), of Jacob (25:23), and of the tribe of Judah (49:10). Further in time, the Davidic Covenant promised the Messiah had to come from the seed of David. Narrowing it in Jeremiah 22:24-30, that the Messiah had to come from the House of David, apart from Jeconiah who was cursed.

The apostle Paul makes it absolutely clear in Gal. 3:16 “Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, "And to seeds," as of many, but as of one, "And to your Seed ," who is Christ.”

That law was active, till the Seed should come. Gal 3:19 means the Old covenant would be replaced by the new (Jer.31:30)

The seed comes from a specific people that God has covenanted with, the Jewish people (Jn.4:22b). There are those who do not understand the Scripture and what has taken place and have invented a seed war from the Bible, Christ defeated Satan’s rule by sins influence by his crucifixion, (the gospel). We who believe the gospel are given power to overcome as individuals, to rule over our sin nature and spread to others the same message of overcoming.
