Doing the will of the Father in the last days Matt 6:10 Jesus told us to pray, “Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”And the church has been praying this for nearly 2000 years. Matt 7:21 Jesus warned, " Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.” There are going to be those who use their great works, their miracles, prophecy to present themselves as doing his will. Jesus does not accept these to be in right standing with him. He then tells them, v.24, "Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock.”V. 26 “ Now everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.” What does Jesus mean by doing God’s will? Jesus spoke in Matt 12:50 "For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother." There are a number of things involved in God's will, but what is the most significant of all? So what is the will of the Father? Matt 4:19 Then He said to them, the disciples. "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men." This is how his kingdom comes and his is will is done on earth, it is by a spiritual birth in an individual’s life. Jesus came to do the will of the Father,“And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life ; and I will raise him up at the last day" (John 6:40). Our witness as the church is to display who Jesus is. John 17:20-21 "I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me .” John 7:16-17 Jesus said to them, "My doctrine is not Mine, but His who sent Me. "If anyone wants to do His will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is from God or whether I speak on My own authority.” Before there can be action, there is a knowing, an understanding of the teaching He gave. Without knowing the correct doctrine, you can’t identify what you are fed as right or wrong. We are aware when we are spiritually healthy, but one can be spiritually unhealthy and not know the condition they are in. The Bible speaks of fundamentals —core doctrines that form the foundation of our belief. These are needed for people to grow and be healthy in their faith, so they can be useful in his kingdom, and do the will of the Father. 2 Cor. 3:3 “clearly you are an epistle of Christ, ministered by us, written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of flesh, that is, of the heart.”This is the new covenant Jeremiah spoke on in his book (Jer. 3:31) At a certain point in his ministry, they came to Jesus, they said to Him, “What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?" Jesus answered and said to them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent " (John 6:28-29). John 5:39-40 “You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.” God's Word leads us to the one that the word is about. He is the focus of which the Spirit wrote of. How do we qualify to do this? John 14:15 "If you love Me, keep My commandments”V.23 Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.” God dwelling within us has us wanting to do his will for others as he has done for us. We do this by making His Word our priority and become other-centered. John 14:24" He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father's who sent Me.” John 15:10"If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love.” God has loved us and saved us so we can bring his Word to others, God’s will is applied in our lives so we can do his will toward others. Peter explains that God was “longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). His will is to use us to save others with the same message by which we were saved by. Those who are involved in praying for others speaking to them about the Lord when the opportunity presents itself are doing God’s will. |
