Choose which prophet]s]to listen to We need to understand that the enemy has prophecies, he has prophets and prophetesses in other religions, who had temples built of their remembrance, even in the Church. In Deuteronomy 13, God says a false prophet’s word can actually come to pass. Being accurate (once or twice) still does not mean they are of God; this is only the first line of testing. For He tells us that when we hear their prophecies v.3-4 “God is testing you to see whether you love the Lord all your heart and with all your soul.” You shall walk after the LORD your God and fear Him, and keep His commandments and obey His voice, and you shall serve Him and hold fast to Him.” Jesus said, “if you love Me you will continue in My Word.” His voice to us is his Word that is written to all generations. So how do we know if they are of God? By how they speak of the doctrine on God, the nature of God and his word. God tested the people through the words of the false prophets to see if they loved only Him. And one can only do this by choosing God’s Word. When the Bereans heard what seemed like a new truth from Paul, they went directly to the Word, which was the Old Testament at the time, to see if his content was what it actually said. Checking to see that his CONTENT was in CONTEXT. ; Deut. 13:3, 5, you shall not listen to the words of that prophet.” Any man who prophesies is to be judged, “because many false prophets have gone out into the world” (1 John 4:1). The words of prophecy come from the person that is speaking. 1 Cor. 14:29-34 “Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others judge.” V.32 “And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.” ;This is saying that those who know the Word are to judge, and one of the main criteria would be by what is already written by the prophets (Isa.8:20). If they contradicted the word that had already been revealed, they were seen as false prophets. False prophecy is never called a mistake. God did not, and still does not tolerate false (wrong) prophesying. According to the modern prophetic movement, there is no such thing as false prophecy because prophecy can be conditional and subject to change. When they don’t get their prophecy right, they adjust it. If you can improve your accuracy at prophesying, you’re admitting your prophecy is not coming from God, for God is never inaccurate. There is no reason to accept someone with “new words” as prophecy and establish him or her as a prophet. Many have been brought to ruin to themselves for not listening to the Scripture first. Too many want to be a prophet without suffering the consequences if their prophecies are wrong.; From the Old Testament to the New, God’s true prophets spoke clearly about false prophecy and leaders that would lead His people astray. The Lord sent prophets when the people departed from God’s ways. The true prophets always exposed the false ones among the people for their misrepresentation of God and to protect them by their false words. Both Peter and Jude speak of mockers that will increase in the last days. 2 Peter 3:2 “you may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior.” Jude 17 “remember the words which were spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Both refer to what is written by those God entrusted with His Words. It is rare that a false prophet ever repents. They go largely unchallenged today because they are not scrutinized by God’s Word, to check if they spoke accurately. There is no telling how many saints have been misled by their false words and guidance, but the numbers are vast, and they continue to grow. Try not to be one of these. |
