What does it mean He will intend to change times and law?

Antichrist is not going to rule over some insignificant country that has no power, influence or money. It makes more sense he will try and rule over the most powerful of nations to have others fall in line, or take a nation and make it powerful. If he takes out or controls the most desired nation or the strongest militarily  all the others fall in line.

Dan 7:25 “He shall speak pompous words against the Most High, shall persecute the saints of the Most High, and shall intend to change times and law. Then the saints shall be given into his hand for a time and times and half a time.”

We will be in a time of lawlessness when this occurs. This is why it says he will attempt to change times and laws. He desires and hopes to do this as implied by the wording.  Exercising authority to accomplish his own ends and glorify himself.

Notice that he intends to change

"times"- Heb. Zimniyn.

He will have no regard for the former rules of the land, he will invent his rules to replace them. Since this man changes times and laws in a land, it can’t be biblical laws but the laws of the land that would affect the majority of people that he wants to control. Of course it will in some manner go against God’s law (not like changing the Sabbath to Sunday); especially if he changes the world to His own image.

Most in past history thought of this as appointing feasts; the Pope using his papal power but this affects a very small number of people, even today. It does not affect other countries as it describes in Scripture.  He thinks he will change times and law (Aram. Cebar) but what he attempts fails, at least has no permanence. Which certainly rules out the Roman church as some claim did this long ago with the Sabbath to Sunday, which has lasted over 1,000 years. Hardly a tenable position since this event occurs in the tribulation (which does not last 1,000 years) and it actually gives us the number of years which coincides with Rev.11,12, and 13.

Some take the view it would have to mean the Jewish feasts, subtracting one; or abolishing them or replacing them. Some make the Sabbath the factor. Since only Jews and a minority of Christians keep these it does not make sense it would be the mitigating factor for a law change, when it is referring to the law of the land. Christians were keeping Sunday from the beginning, not as the Sabbath, but as the Lord’s day.

“For when there is a change of the [covenant] priesthood, there must also be a change of the law” (Heb. 7.12). It was God who changed the Sabbath to be no longer a requirement for a New Testament believer when he gave the  new Covenant. As Dan. 2:21 states of God, “And He changes the times and the seasons; he removes kings and raises up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding.” So this must have another meaning than the one many have tried to force it to be.

"Times" can mean the timetable, man’s history and what took place. The Jews had 360 days in a year, we now have 365, so in this way the measurement of a year was already changed, so it cannot refer to the measurement of time in this manner.

To change times and law we would see revision taking place, especially history. We can understand how this would work because of what we see today. I think its first application would be in discrediting the Bible and God. It will be used through the secular/political realm. The natural law of God is opposed, what is evident of God in our nature, as well as what is written.

Maybe he will call it a new age, a golden age dawning, an age of light. Ignoring real history and inserting revisions of history. Change the times by calling it the Millennium (a counterfeit). Maybe he will change the time from when Jesus was born to when Mohammed was born, or, when He was.

To change times and law can be connected to numerous things. Certainly it will change people’s worldview. It  carries the idea of revisionism; to alter and reform what we think. The fundamentals that people formerly believed in will be changed; It probably will be related to our origin considering who it is changing it. For if he is against God; he will support evolution, or the new pan-spermia theory, or something totally new. No God, but instead an evolutionary process would be an example.

To change times and law can be applied to family values, education which are all tied into this. We have seen this in action as the spirit of the age has already changed many minds on marriage. After this it will be polygamy, not just for heterosexual's. What happens when one woman wants to marry 2-4 guys, or 1 guy with 4-10 woman like Mormonism (once allowed) or Islam allows. What was once traditional views will be changed and accepted as norm for the culture.

To Change law

The parameters given to man by divine law from God and human government to control wrong behavior will be removed. God originally gave man a moral compass, which would be expressed in a system to govern themselves with and keep evil at bay. The internal social order of the country he rules over and the whole world will be equally affected. This person will be a revolutionary to undertake changing the traditions of a country, as well as the world. He will attempt to impose his own ways and ideas without any concern for real justice and law.
For it is a time of lawlessness.

This change would relate to laws that he would forcibly change to dilate what was once a way of life. Any integration will break down the differences of religions and nations heritage.

To change laws may be a reverse of what Jesus spoke. He will promote the love of self, as pride is his modus operandi.

The Anti-christ will replace the true God, the God of Israel with himself and eventually will have a campaign to destroy all those who do not worship Him. A war against the saints begins as Scripture states “Then the saints shall be given into his hand for a time and times and half a time.” Coinciding with Rev. 13:6-7 "It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them.” Rev.7 tells us about numerous martyrs of the tribulation period; God specifically protects the Hebrews that flee the land at this time (Rev.12).

"laws" Heb. Data, most have believed this refers to laws pertaining to religion. But then at this time period religion, especially Christianity and Judaism are being challenged, eliminated. The world certainly does not keep these laws nor wants to keep them. It must refer to laws of the land. Remember the whole culture is indicative of being lawless at this time. Religious laws would affect very few people, only those willing to keep them.

Gen 1:14; 17:21; 18:14, etc. The annexed w¦daat (OT:1882) does not point to arrangements of divine worship, but denotes "law" or "ordinance" in general, human as well as divine law; cf. Dan 2:13,15 with Dan 6:6,9. "Times and laws" are the foundations and main conditions, emanating from God, of the life and actions of men in the world. (from Keil & Delitzsch Commentary on the Old Testament)

Dan 7:15-28 Thus shall he do with the ordinances of life, not only of God's people, but of all men. "But it is to be confessed that the people of God are most affected thereby, because they hold their ordinances of life most according to the divine plan; and therefore the otherwise general passage stands between two expressions affecting the conduct of the horn in its relation to the people of God." (from Keil & Delitzsch Commentary on the Old Testament)

The "law" or "ordinance" can mean in general, humanities, culture. Dan 2:13,15 with Dan 6:6,9. Both "Times and laws" are the foundation that came from God, in Genesis. It may affect biblical law but that will not be its priority but its application. He changes times and law into his image because he wants to be worshiped instead of God being worshiped (which does come later),  he will insert himself into the culture any way possible, and at the same time will poke his finger in the eye of those who hold to the Bible.

The fact is, this man must be on the scene legislating the law by his rule politically (which is in the tribulation period). So those who claim it has already been done are wrong. Though we may be seeing the first inclinations of this appearing. To implement this on people it must come from his power to legislate and he rules with the people on his side, they are loyal and dedicated to him and his ways.

Going back to his attempt to change times and law for all, “and they shall be given into his hands until a time and times and the dividing of time," Dan 7:25. Means that he wants to lengthen his rule for his kingdom on earth. But it will fail. This is found in Revelation Rev. 12:6, 14, describing what will take place. God has ordained  a certain amount of time and no more.

We know with all the Scripture pertaining to this man he will have his own "will" to be obeyed above God's. The "times" and "days" of his rule over man come to a quick end "for the elect's sake" (Matt 24:22

For it says in the next verse, V.26 'But the court shall be seated, and they shall take away his dominion, to consume and destroy it forever.” (Dan 7:15-28)

Jesus described Luke 21:21-24 "Then let those in Judea flee to the mountains, let those who are in the midst of her depart, and let not those who are in the country enter her. "For these are the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. "But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! For there will be great distress in the land and wrath upon this people."And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations. And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.”

The times of Gentiles has not been fulfilled, Jerusalem is still being trampled down. Don’t let anyone fool you into thinking it has occurred (see Revelation 11:2)

Israel is the key as we see from what the apostles asked. Acts 1:6-7 Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, "Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?" And He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority.”

The kingdom begins by Israel being right with their God. Paul explains the event of times or seasons

:1Thess 5:1-4 “But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. For when they say, "Peace and safety!" then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief.”

The world will be in darkness (spiritually) and enter the Tribulation, going deeper at each passing judgment. They will think they have the solution for a new world; peace and safety will be the cliché. No more war, but then a sudden change will take place unlike anyone has seen in history.

The antichrist will try to make this change through his politics, this will occur before his religious ministry that begins halfway into the Tribulation, when he is revealed who he really is.

2 Thess. 2:6-8 “And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time. For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.”

Once the restraint is removed this man who will rule over all mankind will come into his office and power. And that will be in the Tribulation period, the time of darkness.
