The Reappearance of the Bethlehem star?

Some are claiming the star over the manger when Jesus was born was Jupiter and Venus in the constellation Leo (as if that has biblical significance). Appearing for approx. 12 hours (Approx. June 17 2 BC by their calculations, our day June 30th).

Venus and Jupiter line up every several years, this conjunction of planets can only be seen for several hours. But they claim it is significant! Houston we have a problem!

First; we have those pointing out the astrological as well as the astronomical significance.

Venus is the planet named after the Goddess of Love; Jupiter is a planet named after the God of Thunder. That the conjunction of these planets aligning, the return of the star is a sign…

The planet, Venus, is also known as the “bright morning star”, which some are claiming has to do with Rev. 22:16.

Because the alignment is passing through the constellation of Leo (as it did the 2,000 years ago) and let’s not forget Jesus is called the Lion of Judah (they are making an astrological point that is unbiblical). They make this a unique Biblical event because of all the turmoil that is going on in our nation, and others. This astronomical event becomes a phenomenon - a sign of the soon return of Jesus as they apply astrology to it.

But this is NOT a sign that is foretold in Scripture, it does even qualify as signs in the heavens. This is more than speculation, they are applying an interpretative error. How can this conjunction be a sign if it has naturally happened numerous times over thousands of years (which they will admit to), and it will soon happen again?

Stop this Nonsense! These men’s ignorance of Bible interpretation is astounding, very imaginative but quite meaningless. For the untrained in Scripture they will be wowed by these men’s convincing, being end time prophetic proclaimers. But for the grounded in scripture, those who do not look for signs in every unusual event they know this is not what it is being publicized as.

Let’s look at what the Scripture actually says on what took place at Jesus birth and the visiting astronomers from area of Mesopotamia, ancient Babylon.

Caesar Augustus called for a census of the land for them to be taxed (some say it was AD 6).

Luke 2:3-4 So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city. Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David.”

Joseph returns to Bethlehem as he was a descendent of David (as his wife was as well), and he takes Mary with him (which fulfills the Scripture of Micah 5:2). Since there was no room at the inn because of the influx of people he took to either a nearby hill or somewhere near the inn where the animals were kept; in caves.

It is at this time when the men from Babylon first see the star appear in the heavens; around the same time the angel appeared to the shepherds in the field to announce the Messiahs birth. Luke 2:9 an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them”

The sign was of his birth to the shepherds was the swaddling cloth’s he was wrapped in which came from the manger.

The whole concept of it being planets falls apart when one pays attention to what the scripture actually teaches and not insert their own ideas into it.

Matt 2:1-2 Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, "Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.”

So they had seen this star and began to travel to Jerusalem. This star is called “his” star, a specific star to identify the newborn “King of the Jews” is present. The magi knew from the appearance of this star that the “king of the Jews” had been born while they were in Babylon. They also knew it was related to the prophecy in the Scripture. At the very least it was months prior that they set out on the journey to find him.

Herod is troubled by this and asks the priests and scribes where he is to be born, they all agree Bethlehem.

Matt 2:7-8 Herod, secretly calls the wise men to him to determine from them what time the star appeared. Sends them off the Bethlehem to find him and report back saying “that I may come and worship Him also."

These men from Babylon followed this star to Jerusalem and then to Bethlehem.

Matt 2:9-10 “When they heard the king, they departed; and behold, the star which they had seen in the East went before them, till it came and stood over where the young Child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy.”

It does not say the star disappeared and then reappeared later but stayed and moved, guiding them to their destination. Some say this is 6 or 10 months later the star appears again, which they claim is Venus and Jupiter. No, it is near two years later. Are we to believe they lined up months ate Jesus birth and stayed that way for years? Or that they lined up again in the same year?

This star does not stand still in the heavens, so it cannot be the planets aligning as some surmise. It was also seen the whole time of their traveling. The star moves from east to west and moves more than once. After being led to Jerusalem, the star which they had seen in the East went before them, and finally led them as it stood still over the house in Bethlehem where the child - king resided.

Planets do not stay in the sky and move together over locations, specifically over his house. This is not a planet but God’s glory. It comes over the house and stands still.

The word for star can be translated in various ways as the Greek word for “star” means “radiance” or “brilliance.” Since he was announced to the shepherds by the appearance of the Shechinah Glory, God used this radiance in the sky that look like a star to attract those in Babylon who were reading the Scripture anticipating his birth to be a sign of this event. The Wise Men that looked at the night sky saw something special and had deduced from the Scripture the King of the Jews had been born. It is Balaam's prophecy in Numbers 24:17 that emphasized this: “I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not nigh: There shall come forth a star out of Jacob, And a scepter shall rise out of Israel. He says nothing about planets aligning.

If the conjunction happens every several years, then it has happened hundreds of times since Christs birth (and before), then what is the significance of this Biblically. It becomes only an astronomical sign (which they claim is one of the signs in the heavens in the last days). Then it is not unusual but a common natural occurrence.

The men from Babylon looked up in the sky and continued to follow the lead of the star to his home.

Some say that the manger was his house, clearly it was not because it says.

Luke 2:4-7 Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.”

V.7 tells us he was laid in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. This was not there house, they had to travel to this location.

Matt 2:11 And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.”

This is not a barn, a manger but their house.

He is a young child, the word describes a child, not a baby, a new born. One who is at least 2 years old. This is why Herod killed the children in Bethlehem that were under two years old. Matt 2:8 Herod sent them to Bethlehem and said, "Go and search diligently for the young Child.”

The word is paidion- a young child, a little boy, a little girl a) infants b) children, little ones c) an infant; used of a (male) child just recently born d) used of a more advanced child, of a mature child; e) metaphorically, children (like children) in intellect

It is the same word used in Mt.2: Then, being divinely warned in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed for their own country another way. Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, "Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him." When he arose, he took the young Child and His mother by night and departed for Egypt, and was there until the death of Herod, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, "Out of Egypt I called My Son." Then Herod, when he saw that he was deceived by the wise men, was exceedingly angry; and he sent forth and put to death all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all its districts, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the wise men.”

It is the same word used in Matt 2:20 of the Mother and Jesus who were to return from Egypt after Herod died, saying, "Arise, take the young Child and His mother, and go to the land of Israel, for those who sought the young Child's life are dead." So they went to Nazareth.

So the star was seen in the heavens over Jerusalem for at least this amount of time (up to two years), this is why Herod killed all the children 2 years old and younger. Matt 2:7-8 Herod, determined from them what time the star appeared. He was so jealous and afraid for his position that he ordered for the Children in Bethlehem to be destroyed and he did not care how many male children were slain in the process.

But this Catachresis does not end with the reappearance of the star. To some this is also related to the blood moons, as they claim there is a 120 day interval in between the star appearing again and the last of 4 "blood moons which will be the night of September 27-28, the final eclipse in the tetrad. From Bethlehem’s reappearance to Sept. 28 ad -- four consecutive total lunar eclipses, each separated by six lunar months. (The first three in the series took place April 15, 2014; October 8, 2014; and April 4, 2015.) But the question is, does it fulfill biblical prophecy as it is written.

According to the Bible the moon turns red and stays that way, not turns red for a night; it is a singular event.

For what it’s worth, according to NASA, the current century – 2001 to 2100 – will have 8 tetrads. The first tetrad of the 21st century occurred in 2003, and the second will occur in 2014 and 2015. http://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/blood-moon.html

We also have those claiming the world will be hit by an asteroid on sept 28 among a number of other concocted disasters, such as the Hadron Collider (LHC) which is composed of some 9,600 super magnets, which we are told are 100,000 times more powerful than the gravitational pull of Earth, will smash together sub-atomic particles at nearly the speed of light and cause untold destruction, and it will make a portal to another dimension. After all 2015 is labeled 'The year of light' a sign of Lucifer.

The wise men were led to Jesus by a radiance in the heavens, they were Biblical, these men teaching this canard are not.

As the end times escalates we will find spiritual paranoia present and many will try to connect the dots making up their own picture[s] from Scripture. This is the same reason why people will be deceived by the signs from the antichrist and the false prophet as they convince people of their mission. They are not interpreting the Scripture but conforming it to what they think it should mean.
