Witnessing to a Witness on the resurrection

The soul and the body according to the Watchtower or Scripture pt.2

The human body of flesh, which Jesus Christ laid down forever as a ransom sacrifice, was disposed of by God’s power….” (“Things In Which It Is Impossible For God To Lie,” 1965, p. 354)

"Having given up his flesh for the life of the world, Christ could never take it again and become a man once more."(You can live in Paradise on Earth, p.169, 1982)

"Hence Jesus Christ was not resurrected with the sacrificed human body" (Things in Which it is impossible for God to Lie, p. 355)

So his body that he was born with went into non existence. What did he show the disciples? The watchtower answer to all their congregants is “…Jesus simply materialized or took on a fleshly body….In order to convince Thomas of who He was, He used a body with wound holes.” (You Can Live Forever in Paradise on Earth, 1982, pp. 144-145)

The problem is that his original body was disposed of, it went from existing to non -existence. Then Jesus was deceiving Thomas into thinking this was the same body with the wounds of his crucifixion, when in fact it was not, it was recreated to look like it. This is the Jesus of the Watchtower.

How do they explain the body soul and spirit? ‘The personality is dependent on the body and therefore it ceases to exist when the body dies” (Awake) sept.22 1955)

The Jehovah witnesses believe we as a soul go out of existence and God makes a new soul to inhabit a body from his memory. This is because they do not believe anyone exists after death. This is not the same as soul sleep like the 7th Day Adventist’s teach, but soul annihilation.

They believe the spirit is only an animator, like electricity.

The Bible speaks of ‘the force of life’ that is active in earthly living creatures….The ‘spirit’ that departs from humans at death is the life force that originated with our Creator….This life force does not have any of the characteristics of the creature it animates…. (Knowledge, 1995)

If true, then certain questions need to be answered. Is God saying the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit… be with your LIFE FORCE (Gal 6:18) or: “The Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. (LIFE FORCE) Grace be with you. Amen (2 Tim 4:22; Phile 1:25)

Why did Jesus say when he was being crucified, "It is finished!" And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit” (John 19:30). Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, He said, "Father, 'into Your hands I commit My spirit.'" Having said this, He breathed His last” (Luke 23:46). (is he saying he commits his life force?)

How did he choose the moment to dismiss his own spirit (LIFE FORCE)? Do you know of anyone in history that can chose the time of their death (it says the veil was immediately ripped before this took place). He dismissed His(my) spirit, which certainly goes against a non-personal spirit.

They explain: “The “soul” is the person, including both personality and organism… the dead body, without the spirit” or life force, has no personality, no activity… it is therefore no longer a living soul. The soul has died, ceased to exist Ezek. 18:4 (The Watchtower Dec.1 1973)

In other words the soul does not survive without being in the body. It’s not just the body that dies but the soul is snuffed out, no longer existing. Making us only a “the dead body.”

Rev 6:9-10 “… I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the testimony which they held. And they cried with a loud voice, saying, "How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?"

Here are all the martyrs a praying for justice, which is a hard thing to do if you don’t exist.

The Watchtower teaches: Gen.3:19 “Adam ceased to be a breather”, or a “soul, and went back to the lifeless dust from which he had been taken. It was the reverse of the creation process. No part of him lived on. He went completely into non existence” (Good news to make you Happy 1976).

First, Adams’ soul was not taken from the ground but his physical body was shaped from it. The soul was there immediately when God breathed into Adam.

When Moses and Elijah appeared with Jesus at the Mount where he was Transfigured, did God recreate them from memory for an hour or so only to bring them into non- existence again? Elijah never saw death. Why does John see souls alive in heaven before the resurrection? Why did Jesus promise the thief on the cross that he would be in paradise WITH HIM if he was to cease to exist as Jesus would cease to exist>

Acts 2:27For You will not leave my soul in Hades, nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.”V.31-32 "he, foreseeing this, spoke concerning the resurrection of the Christ, that His soul was not left in Hades, nor did His flesh see corruption." This Jesus God has raised up, of which we are all witnesses.”

Hades is not the grave and Jesus’ flesh saw no corruption, notice it makes a distinction of the soul not left and his flesh (his body),even if one takes the position that hades is the grave (which it is not but the JW’s believe this) it means he did not go out of existence because it says his soul would not be left there. You can’t leave something that does not exist.

No Resurrection for any Jehovah Witness that ever lived

Here’s how their organization in their NY tower headquarters explains the resurrection. “It is the individual, the “soul”, with the same personality, that is brought back to life” (Awake 9/22/55)

They are confused, you can’t bring something back to life that is non -existent. You create it.

They believe this is to be true for all humanity but it is also true for Jesus, the former angel Michael (according to them).

We are taught in the Bible that death is defeated by the resurrection. A recreation, a copy does not defeat death. Death is not concluded, then God is not taking what is dead and raising it back is defeating it.

“When Jesus Christ died, he could no longer mention his heavenly Father, praising Him Jesus was dead, he was unconscious, out of existence. Death did not mean a transition to another life for Jesus; rather, nonexistence. But on the third day of his death God restored him to life. (Awake July 22, 1979)

Exactly when did Jesus go out if existence? For how long? John 10:17-18 "Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. "No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father."

How do you take up your body again if you do not exist. Look at what he is teaching, He does this raising.   It is absolutely impossible to do this if one no longer exists.

The Jehovah Witnesses belief is religious atheism

How God makes the recreation of the individual: “The life pattern is the personal lifelong record of the creature built up by his thoughts and by the experiences in life he has lived resulting from certain habits, leanings and mental abilities , memories and history. It is also a register of the individuals intellectual growth and his characteristics all of which makes ones personality” (Make sure of all things 1953)

“The tiny cell that is formed by the uniting of the sperm and the egg has the potential of becoming a person different from any other person that has ever lived. Within this cell there is, in effect, a pattern of what the person to develop from it will be like. This pattern becomes part of the body of the human that develops. Is it not reasonable, therefore, that man's Creator can resurrect or recreate a body with the personality and life record of the dead person?

Thus resurrection or re-creation actually depends upon God's memory of the life pattern of humankind” (p.249 April 15, 1973)

A Resurrection is not recreation. Recreation is not a resurrection, they are confusing people by reinterpreting the Biblical record. Resurrection was always placing the SAME individual in the SAME body they lived in before they died.

How is the individual, the "soul," with the personality, the life pattern, resurrected? We might best answer that question by means of an illustration, that of a phonograph recording. The factors combining to make the life pattern are like the sounds recorded on a blank phonograph record that stands for the brain, primarily. At the same time God is having a master disc made of the same life pattern on his marvelous memory. At death the phonograph record is broken as it were, and what was recorded thereon would be forever lost were it not for the duplicate recording made by God. In the resurrection God makes a blank record, a human body, and then stamps on its brain the life pattern he has recorded. Upon giving life to that body the result is an individual that will recognize himself and be recognized by others as having previously existed. (Awake sept.22 1955) Underline mine

Let’s consider what they have told millions in their organization. First God does not know anyone’s future but at the same time we do things he makes a record of it. If it were not for God filing your memories away you could not be duplicated.

I once gave this illustration with a Jehovah Witness who I invited in my house asking him about these quotes. I showed him a real tape and said, the real you went out of existence but this tape is what God has of you to make a new you to enter paradise earth. That is who will go into paradise earth, the real ORIGINAL you is gone forever but this copy will be there. 6 months later he shows up at my doorstep to continue this conversation after he checked their teaching out.

Here’s what he said to me, “I’m just glad God will make a copy of me.” I responded, just so we are clear, YOU will not be there but your copy will. He understood their teaching but he could not leave it for the Bibles word of truth.

“Of those resurrected some will receive a heavenly and spiritual resurrection and others an earthly, a human resurrection. The heavenly resurrection is termed "the first resurrection," first in time, in importance and in glory. Christ Jesus was the first to experience it, "being put to death in the flesh, but being made alive in the spirit," on the third day. He promised his followers that they would share heavenly glory with him, a reward, however, that will be realized by just "the hundred and forty-four thousand, who have been purchased from the earth." These will be associated with Christ Jesus in judging, ruling and blessing all the families of the earth as the spiritual seed of Abraham. All others resurrected will come forth to life on earth. —Revelation 20:5, 6; 1 Peter 3:18; Revelation 14:3, New World Trans. The personality is dependent on the body and therefore it ceases to exist when the body dies (Awake spt.22 1955)

Like those who Paul condemned in the Bible (Hymenaeus and Philetus ) in 2 Tim 2:17-18 “who have strayed concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past; and they overthrow the faith of some” (their message will spread like cancer.)

The Jehovah Witnesses taught “it appears that those of the body of Christ who were sleeping in death experienced the first resurrection in 1918. (Awake spt.22 1955) These are the 1444,000 that they state are the only ones going to heaven. This only adds to how wrong they are.

"Surely, then, our almighty Creator can record the details of any individual and resurrect the same person, giving him or her a newly formed body….All those in Jehovah’s memory will be resurrected and instructed in his ways…. (Knowledge, 1995)

They teach:

Resurrection is a restoration to the life of the non existent dead. the Greek word anastasis," means "a raising up. “ Dependent entirely upon God’s marvelous power through Christ and his memeory of the dead”

“It is the reactivating of the life pattern of the creature, a transcription of which is on record with God, and is referred to as being in his memory. Resurrection does not involve the restoring of the original identical body of the creature” (make sure of all things p.15 1953)

From the pattern God has retained in-his memory the person is restored (human or a spirit body) retains his personal identity, the same personality and memories are restored because of gods memory

This personality is dependent upon the body and therefore it ceases to exist when the body dies

“It is the individual soul” with the same personality that is brought back to life (Awake p.2 1955).

Actually they are confused, it is not brought back to life because it ceased to exist according to their teaching. Resurrection according to the Bible is a restoration to the life of the body, not a non -existent dead soul. So this is not a resurrection as the Bible teaches but a copy of an original, for the original is gone forever, and God makes another copy. Disintegrating the body means God is preventing himself from keeping his own word.

The Watchtower teaches Jesus was resurrected as an invisible spirit, not in a body. Jesus then is made out to be a liar because he said say he was going to raise his physical body from the dead.

John 2:19-21 Jesus answered and said to them, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up." Then the Jews said, "It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will You raise it up in three days?" But He was speaking of the temple of His body.”

The Watchtower cannot explain how does one raise their own body if they are non -existent?
As the Watchtower teaches; Jesus, the man, ceased to exist at his death and was raised from the dead as a spirit whom they have named Michael the Archangel. Michael then deceived the apostles into believing that they were witnessing Jesus in a resurrected physical body (Luke 24:39). Even though he affirmed he would raise his body. How convoluted can this get?

The Watchtower teaches Jesus is now living in heaven as Michael, an invisible spirit creature. Paul wrote that Christ is dwelling in heaven in a physical body (Colossians 2:9)? Note: The Greek word, somatikos, means a physical body. 1 Timothy 2:5 does not say that the mediator between God and men is Michael the Archangel. 1 Tim 2:5 says, For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus.”

Man – Greek- anthropos- 1) a human being, whether male or female a) generically, to include all human individuals b) to distinguish man from beings of a different race or order.

The Bible teaches he was not raised a spirit, but physically, the same body.

Why does it say this in Acts 2:30 "and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his body, according to the flesh, He would raise up the Christ to sit on his throne”

There are a number of times Jesus made it clear he was NOT a spirit. Once before He died and resurrected, and once after.

The Before: Mark 6:49-50 “And when they saw Him walking on the sea, they supposed it was a ghost, and cried out; for they all saw Him and were troubled. But immediately He talked with them and said to them, "Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid."

The After:

Luke 24:39-43 "Behold My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself. Handle Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see I have." When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His feet. But while they still did not believe for joy, and marveled, He said to them, "Have you any food here?"So they gave Him a piece of a broiled fish and some honeycomb. And He took it and ate in their presence.”

It was a real physical body, not a spirit with a temporary fake body to make them think its Jesus.

1 Cor. 15:15-17 “Yes, and we are found false witnesses of God, because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ, whom He did not raise up-- if in fact the dead do not rise. For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen. And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins!”

Because they are teaching that Jesus was raised a spirit, not in the body he was born with. He had no resurrection. Which means they have no gospel (1 Cor.15:4).

Jehovah Witnesses do not have the gospel the Bible teaches but another, and, it will do absolutely nothing for them in the end. When it should count they will find they have believed in VAIN. This is why none of them will be in paradise on earth because they do not believe in the gospel that Paul said to stand in; the gospel that will save.

For those who truly believe the message: 1 Peter 1:3 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead”
