We are not righteous like Jesus

2 Cor. 5:21 “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”

2 Cor. 5:21 Him who knew no sin he made (to be) sin on our behalf; that we might become the righteousness of God in him.” (from Robertson's Word Pictures in the New Testament)

Being “in Him” we are seen as if we never sinned. Jesus never sinned but we do. This point should not be missed as one reads that he became sin on our behalf; to fulfill all righteousness.  He suffered voluntarily thus we are not punished (judged) for our sin.

Gal. 3:6-7 just as Abraham "believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness."

This righteousness by faith was imputed to Abraham, yet he still sinned showing that he himself was not righteous.

Rom. 1:17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "The just shall live by faith.”

Rom. 4:5 justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness.’ Rom 9:30 even the righteousness of faith.”

Phil. 3:9 but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith.

We are made righteous in the sight of God by faith. We are accepted and treated as righteous because of what the Lord Jesus has done.

This is an imputed righteousness from Jesus because of our faith, because we are in him and he is in us.  and there is a righteousness we will have because of a complete change of nature

Rom 10:3-4 “For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.”

Christ fulfilled the law completely and as we have faith in Him, by trust in the gospel we receive the position of being righteous.

The righteousness of God carries with it justification, sanctification; so that we can now be used by God to do his will.

The sinful nature, a guilty conscience and our works that were at enmity with God are now subdued as we walk in the Spirit,  his righteous works in us as the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "The just shall live by faith." Rom 1:17

Our position before being transferred into his spiritual kingdom was Mark 2:17 those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance."

All of mankind is without righteousness.

Rom. 3:10-11 “There is none righteous , no, not one”

We are told after being translated Eph. 5:8-9 Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth

2 Tim. 2:22-23 Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness , faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

2 Tim. 3:16-17 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.

If we are as righteous as Christ there would be no need to say these things and pursue righteousness or be instructed in it. (godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness1 Tim. 6:11)

Rom 3:21-22 But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets,  even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe.”

Rom 8:4-5 that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.”

We are not righteous as Jesus is because we still sin. To deny this puts one the category of John’s warning in 1 Jn.1:8-10.

Luke 18:9-10 (Jesus) spoke this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others”

Our faith is trusting in Jesus, what He did so in the Fathers eye’s we are righteous.

Phil. 3:9-11 “not having my own righteousness , which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith;  that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.”

Gal. 5:5 “For we through the Spirit eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.”

His plan of making believers righteous will become reality at the resurrection, and rapture, not before. we need a permanent transformation (Rom.8) to be made sinless. that day is coming.

As the last words in 1 Cor.5:21 are, the righteousness of God in Him. Not us – HIM!
