When Relativism becomes the New Standard of Truth

The Bible speaks in terms of Good and bad, true and false, all in reference to God’s perfect nature. In other words God has absolutes. But our culture has become a hodgepodge of opinions where everything can be accepted even if it contradicts one another. This means relativism has overruled sound judgment, common sense and we have dispensed with logic. Relativism has become the rule of living in our current time.

We are in the time of secularization of the church. Society rejects the wisdom of the Lord. In fact they and the Church rarely hear it from preachers on TV or radio. In like manner many Churches substitute human reasoning for spirituality. They adopt worldly business concept’s thinking it will yield the same success it has in the business world. People are calculated as numbers to prove a program works, instead of their growth of spiritual maturity by hearing the Word and living by it. What have we become?

Finding our spiritual needs and questions answered by the Bible should supercede any of mans reasoning or philosophical viewpoints. Without it we have words and beliefs without any spiritual substance. Jesus said, “ My words are spirit and they are life.” Some obviously do not believe this and think they can find ways to live the spiritual life they choose by using the world’s methods and philosophies; even their own imagination.

What is concerning is to see these type of men as leaders of Christian churches. They are only leading the sheep away from the good shepherd. But why is there no alarms going off among the people? Because people’s discernment is non- active, they are no longer hearing the Word to live by it, they don’t spiritually understand it, or can distinguish truth from error.

Feelings can be shaped by the culture, so feelings cannot be an instructor of what is right unless it agrees with what is written in Scripture. Rarely will one find feelings spoken of in scripture, but today so much is based on feelings, emotions. These are subjective to the person, God wants us to be objective, disciple by the Word.

When defining what is true for spirituality or religion, Christians will always refer to Jesus’ words and the teachings of the Bible (these were not written in red but the same color ink).

Liberals always use portions of it and are willing to reinterpret it when necessary, especially for self - promotion or protection of their own interests.

The attack today is mainly on the Bible as being from God and that it does not change, they demoralize those who defend this position. The platform that is often presented is that all religions have truth, and have equally effective ways to be know or be pleasing to God. Diminishing the truth as being absolute in the bible, by making it relative to a person’s own wants and needs.

Foremost, orthodox Bible Christians called “fundamentalists” are especially targeted, claiming they are “intolerant” because they will not budge on their beliefs.

What Liberals who claim Christianity don’t understand is that they are chipping away at the very foundation of truth, preparing the way for a new collective, a global spirituality that includes current religions and spiritual movements that are false.

Let me give a physical example. The truth is like living on large iceberg floating in a large ocean, as you chip away you have less and less to live on until it cannot sustain the people living on it and they all end up in the ocean.

They reinvent "Christ" whom the followers of any religion are comfortable with and even atheists can accept. The new idea, the main goal of religion is social reform, rather than what Christianity teaches a renewal of fallen man to be separate to God and in service to God. They tell us Christianity, Mormonism, Islam all are of the same God. Like the Bahai who say all the religions have truth, And are from God

In their abandonment of Biblical Christianity and have a conglomeration of other religions for a common cause which is humanism. It is Liberalism that wants people to unite and become part of the consensus, this unity is not the same as Gods unity (Jn.17)

They sabotage the work of the Holy Spirit that has been ongoing in the church by introducing new age beliefs, other religions and speak of them as equal.

Global relativism

Ecumenism/ interfaith is the way to forge the new unity of mankind religiously.  Since other nations (and religions) do not accept us (Christians) we must be the ones to change and adopt their beliefs. Surrender our convictions to those who have a different set of beliefs or none.

Some churches have already become re-education centers for the new openness of spiritual ideas. They call this progress, (futurism?)

With unity being the most important goal of all the parties involved, spiritual relativism is employed and practiced, accepting this has us discard Biblical absolutes, thus sterilizing Christianity to be powerless. In the end the true church of believers who hold to the Word becomes a reproach to those who have not the truth, nor love it. Even those within the church!

New agers look for soft targets (undiscerning churches) to bring in their mysticism to corrupt Biblical beliefs

The emergent church movement has become attractive to the youth because they live in the world of relativism. It appeals to their sensibilities because they are essentially biblically illiterate. So they instead want to do things differently.

A representative of this is Thomas Hohstadt, who asked in a article: "How Do We Know We Are Not in a Cult?" He answered this question by basically saying that y ou are a cult if you believe you have all the answers and if you believe truth can be contained or absolutely defined.

You see, in this emerging spirituality doubt and uncertainty are the means they use, and the opposite "virtues,"--certainty and faith -- are condemned. Incredible as it seems, those who stand on the Word of God will, in the end, be called evil, deadly, and cultish and they will be looked upon as what is good.

We see this relativism everywhere. Understanding Scripture is what keeps a person from falling away. Spiritual stupidity leads the sheep into bad pastures, sheep that are starving will eat any scrap they find when they are starving.

The philosophical musing of men who cannot accept the word of God and want to import their ideas to the people as being valid. Liberal Brian McLaren explains: “ This is how I feel when I’m offered a choice between the roads of exclusivism (only confessing Christians go to heaven), universalism (everyone goes to heaven), and inclusivism (Christians go to heaven, plus at least some others). Each road takes you somewhere, to a place with some advantages and disadvantages, but none of them is the road of my missional calling: blessed in this life to be a blessing to everyone on earth .” (A Generous Orthodoxy McLaren p. 113.)

Oswald Chambers in My Utmost for His Highest “ Beware of the pleasant view of the Fatherhood of God--God is so kind and loving that of course He will forgive us. That sentiment has no place whatever in the New Testament. The only ground on which God can forgive us is the tremendous tragedy of the Cross of Christ. To put forgiveness on any other ground is unconscious blasphemy. God can forgive sin and reinstate us in His favor [only] through the Cross of Christ, and in no other way .”

No other way, for Jesus is ‘the way,’ and he gave us the gospel as the truth to proclaim him as the way, this is priority one to be taught to all who want to know Gods way (1 Cor.15:1-4).
